It's just about balancing I guess! Don't let one side of the room/area look more cluttered than the other, and make sure there are clear + defined walking spaces between it.

Make sure you know why things are cluttered i.e. what each stall is for. It's also a great way to use the junk/trash items you get from presents etc. in a meaningful way

My top tip is to make sure you put in objects that actually relate to the area you are making rather than just any old item.

Clutter without purpose often looks bad, because clutter tells a narrative. It's being used, and left lying around between uses. That's what brings a cluttered scene together imo.

I have my shops directly in the center of my island, though my island isn't very terraformed at all. I think anywhere that is convienent and easy to access is good. The river thing is just a good decorating idea.

I’d personally go for trees, it’s simple and pretty. I tried putting two layers of cliffs behind my houses and it was eh, not very visible. So it’d be good to build a cliff on the side(s) of the house, not just the back
But you should definitely experiment with cliffs and adding flowers/lights/waterfalls on them.

Looking for island entrance inspo that keeps visitors from going too far.

How did y’all decide what to do with your beaches (only if you actually did decorate them or plan to)? I decided to make one fully an amusement park, I made one another picnic area (tbh, I have like 3), ones fully a campsite with a sitting area (technically also a picnic area), and the bottom of my far right beach is a spa area. I have no idea what to do with the rest of my car right beach. I was thinking about making something with the zodiac items, but that probably wouldn’t make sense. Then again, nothing about my island makes sense considering the theme I was going for😂 I don’t know. I just like so much stuff that my theme is kind of lost but that’s okay. Anyways, what did y’all do for all of your beaches?

So winter got me in AC-hibernation. When I realized that it's green again ingame I had some motivation! I rebuilt the entrance and resident services (I wasn't satisfied with the former builds) and I finally found the theme I'm going through my island: rural overgrown village in the mountains! :3
I even built a community park on the right side of the RS and relocated two of the villager homes off from the beach and decorated around them! I never did that since I got the game 🙈😂

Idk much about teriforming but just be as creative as you like when you make ponds don't just make the edges straight make them curved and a little bit odd and when you do cliffs curve them as well. also are you going for a natural look for your island?

After walking around my island slowly to find butterflies for the models, i am really appreciating the beauty of my island. Normally I am running around it at light speed all the time and not taking any notice lol

I know that feeling of being anxious about landscaping your island. I have been there as well and it came along with looking at all the great pictures of island designs of other people on social media. Don't stress about it too much. AC should be a calming and relaxing game and it is your island after all. It all depends on your aesthetic preferences. Look at some inspo for specific places if you feel out of ideas. There are some video tutorials and tips for terraforming if you want to know how to make things more natural.
My recommendation is to start landscaping at one point, like the entrance. Decorate with plants, furniture and just try out what looks good. Then work from there with laying paths and go with the flow.

It's a lot of trial and error as well. 😄

Ooh, I know that feeling so well!
My island was 3/4 empty for a year now and my villagers kept on living on the beach all this time. These poor fellas.
But now I just build and placed things. I figured out what stressed me as well was, when I tried to relocate buildings it looked not good. But it was because the space wasn't decorated that much. I finally placed two villager homes now off the beach and decorated them after and I really like how they look now.

And to answer your other question... I don't know, it depends on if you rather like to work on an empty canvas or build around the existing stuff.
Maybe try to flat a part of your island (like two squares of the map) and look if you work better with that?

I made cocos a treehouse. I find scattering heir houses is easier to decorate and more liberating than making a neighbourhood cause you’re so confined by space. I’ve done both ways and prefer scattering

Dobies house! It kind of helped that I had a cohesive theme around my island (jungle) so I kind of scatteered houses accordingly to which area they fit based on their personality. Dobie is like my village elder so I put his house in the heart of my ruins area since it made sense and decorated based on that
