ok so i just cleared out the entire area. i had this area in front of it thag was too awkward of a space to put anything there. i’m thinking i use it for this area. but idk since this whole area has a beach around the edge and my town square is here so idk how to incorporate it. town square is to the left, i’m standing in the area i’ve got in front. that incline is what used to lead up to my cafe. how to i transition the towns square into a forrest area? i’m thinking of using that entire strip of land on the end for this forrest woth my campsite and my sister and i’s house. but i just don’t know how to transition into it. the path where the shops are is the town square. i can cut off the path at the end of the shops i don’t need it there rn. also ignore the inclines i’m gonna tear them down

Do the cliff ring idea, and then you can have a narrow passageway between the cliffs leading to the beach, maybe even with some twists and turns

I would say no, twin rivers layout is hard to deal with if you are going for a natural or rustic look

Also your Residential service area is asymetric close to airport, which many people have a hard time dealing with, unless you like the challenge

@woven drift find the golden spot on your island and bury 10k bells in it. In 3 days it will grow back 30k. Also sell all the shells on your beach. They respawn quite quickly too so it's easy money. Hit all the rocks on your island and you'll come across a money rock which will give you a fair amount of bells too. And of course just fishing and catching bugs to sell off. You'll make money quite quickly, but selling turnips is the best way to make lots of bells quick.

Well if you have large open areas and your island has a forest-like theme then you can make pits in places as long as they’re near to paths

Think about it more as digging out an area

You want your scene to look really busy in the foreground. Market stalls, storage areas, carts and wagons, barrels, seating areas, benches... just pack it with stuff!

A busy foreground makes the horizon look less flat, so as long as there's a clear route forwards, the stuff on the horizon looks very 'congruous' and involved

So in my markets the clutter makes it feel like the plaza is built into the market area, rather than the other way around! Does that make any sense?

One thing I'd do is rope off the entrance to the beach (with a small gap) and make it look like the queue entrance to the beach, which itself could be a bar or picnic area

Speaking of the river, I'd actually suggest narrowing it to 2 or 3 blocks wide at most. That way you can give it more curvature and it looks a lot more natural, particularly on your map.

That also affords you more land for bushes, seating areas, and other lovely things.

I've tried to do minimal terraforming on my island (I want to keep true to the original layout)

See how the rivers are narrowed out in places? Especially at the entrance to the orchard (bottom-right, just above the opening to the sea)

There's a bridge there, so the river widens briefly and shortens again after. Still looks perfectly natural.

The zen bridge adds to the statue in my opinion. The bridge isn't particularly dynamic and the statue is quite lofty, so they balance each other out - having a flat bridge would make the statue look obtuse, like a big pillar in the middle of a flat zone.

The way I have my island I like using different styles of bridges but I always use the ones that look wooden, like those two and the suspension bridge! You can't see it but there's a plank path on the bottom side of the flat bridge that connects all in between my airport and even my dock as well :) Thanks again for the insight!

The architecture of bridges is emblematic in my opinion. Something about a curved bridge suggests decadence, like the designer chose to make it curved because they wanted it to be beautiful. A flat bridge is like a road, it's utilitarian, its purpose is more obvious - both obviously are beautiful, and can be used in beautiful ways, but I think together they create a contrast. Just my two cents, anyway! Love your road btw ✨

Yeah I was thinking the same! The only thing that put me off was the small water spot in between the plaza and airport but all can be terraformed! I’m starting an island on my boyfriends switch because he doesn’t like animal crossing (break up worthy) and I couldn’t decide between pink themed and cottage core so now I can do one of both 😂
