@sacred siren I took the cliffs off the outer edge of the housing area, and will replace them with bushes. I planted my fruit trees at the bottom where the waterfalls land. And I'll line the pathways with Cacao Trees. Hopefully that adds much needed greenery

I've got a forest island/mountain island as well and I can really recommend making small rivers (but make them a little crinkly) I've got more lakes to be honest but if you want to keep the main river just start the small rivers from there! what would also look good especially with the different levels is a 1x1 source of the river on the highest level!

the biggest problem with building in winter is that the grass with the snow is a completely different look than regular grass so you might have to end up changing things around when the season changes 😔 ✊

A great way to make it seem further away from the airport is to hide the front of residential services so you can use trees and elevation to help make it seem less close. Depending on your design preferences, you could also embrace how close it is and make a plaza/city area

Depends on the vibe. Barbed gives a more farm/forest vibe, lattice is more civilized, simple wooden is more neighborhood like. My person favorite is to mix fencing with bushes/other fencing.

mmm well because it's sunken in, you won't see it from far away. The fix for that would be to have the front (at least partial) not sunken in so the elevation in front should be lowered. Depending on how far away you want it to be visible anyway.

Side waterfalls will make it look more natural/dynamic

If you look up "acnh sunken waterfalls" you can find a lot of reference. Then when you find an image you like, try picking out what part of it you like to help make your own design

My suggestion is to figure out the general location of things (be vague) like "oh, I really want my house somewhere in the top left of the map" Then when you have a general location of shops and your house starting thinking in terms of big shapes. Like "oh, it would be cool if the terraforming made a swoosh shape" that will help give you a nice map layout. if you want to think big picture. Another method is to start in one spot like the entrance and get that complete before moving on to another small section

I should’ve just connected the heart island/pond/river thing with the river out, but the empty looking space above my villager area is actually a huge bamboo forest with stone tables and bamboo furniture.. y'all i am SO overwhelmed at the idea of redesigning my island.. ive played around with some island planner tools but when it comes to actually starting I am so nervous. what are your best tips for starting? I feel like the "zoomed in" view of actually doing it, vs seeing the big picture at once is going to make it really hard to match what ive come up with in an island planner. maybe im missing something?

@limber shadow I use to have a house next to the beach but not on the beach. I had a backyard and used the vertical fence and planter some trees at the end of the land where it's about to become sand. I don't remember. Or I either had coconut trees at the edge of the sand so parts of the palm trees were hanging over my fence so it felt like a house near the beach, but not exactly on the beach

ok so also sorry i’ve got so many things i need opinions on but i kinda regret how i did the villager houses. the area in front of it is too awkward to put anything good there. i’m thinking on moving them so i can have space and a yard for all of them ? but i’m not sure if i’d have enough space. i can extend the space, but i don’t really want to move my zen garden because it’s honestly my favorite part of my island. my zen farm is the thing to the right of resident services with the waterfall and the Y shape path. i could move it if necessary tho ? idk. should i move them? would there even be enough room? i don’t want to extend it to the right tho cause my secret beach is there and i want access to it. could 10 houses fit up there with space for yards and stuff? i’ll probably have to extend the cliff but then i’d have to move the zen garden 😔

Im definitely the plan as I go type. I'll have one idea or thing I really want and then go from there. Slowly working section by section. It's good to start from the front/airport.

@limber shadow So I would keep the thing I really like, in your case the Zen garden. Sometimes you have to make compromises and give up one thing. So if you really want villager housing to be spaced and you want it all lined up there, then yeah you might have to relocate the campsite. Or you can do 2 rows of 5 houses? Or move 5 of them elsewhere. OR.... You find a new place to line up all 10 houses with enough space in-between.
