when i first made it, it was supposed to be pastel and cute

I've never flattened, but I try to start on the back of the island and bring it forward. Designate parts of the island in your head or on photoshop/paint whatever, start with the smallest and it'll all come together.

The cliffs in between will be replaced with trees. EVENTUALLY I will have flowers on top of the remaining cliffs that outline them.

Yeah both my river to ocean entries are on the bottom of the map so I typically just keep the river looking like an upside down U. @polar dagger I meant like making a river that uses both ends and doesn't break. You know how @woven drift has theirs ends but there isn't a clean cut river that connects both rive to ocean entries together

Yeah my description could have been better haha. I'm working changing my island layout for the 3rd time and I find strategic elevation make the island have a whole lot more depth. I tended to avoid that until recently since I'm lazy and don't like using the ladder but if the elevation is small then you can just put weeds/trees/rocks/etc. up there so you never have to go up there lol

The barrel diy is pretty nice In cottagecore islands. My favorite tip is to use lots of trees and maybe even use the little trick to freeze trees in a smaller stage of growth to add depth

^ is a good idea! you could also move the actual cooking station in the very middle, surronding it with tables/seats and you could replace where it previously was with a bar or something

Plants are the solution to (most) human strife.

You could also add some stalls for baked goods, stools with donuts/cakes, and some baking apparatus: clay furnace, brick oven, water pump, that sort of thing!

honestly for me i didn’t want a blank canvas. i kinda used what i already had. it would be so hard to build up cliffs and stuff from all blank you know? like i got rid of a lot and added a lot, but it was easier bc i had the base ig

also, what i did was print out my map and draw where i wanted everything. most of it didn’t go as planned lol but at least i had an idea. i started with all my houses which i put in a line, and my town square. those i planned from the start. then i just kinda went from there. i made a garden but it was super ugly so i took it town and made a park and a cafe. honestly i’d just start with the major areas like museum/houses/shops etc do you kinda have a base? idk that’s what i did
