yes, ghost, every villager has a theme and yard on my island. It's unique to their "purpose". Tangy's farm, Cookie's flower garden, Elvis's castle, Plucky's beach, Ribbot's workshop, Hans's toyshop, Julian's Observatory, Coco's rock garden...

I tried to tie each theme into a game mechanic, too. It's fun AND functional.

but I went crazy with it, regretted it instantly, then tried to return it to how it was. lol

@bitter phoenix the trees(palm) do not grow so close to the water, if you want it to grow you need to place it a space behind

I suggest making one stream in front of the tree and have it pool a little at the ground. You could extend the elevation towards the bridge a bit more. Might give ya some room to make a more elevation. Also consider the garden rocks, weeds, and flowers. That will make it less bare

I personally like making little C shapes with my little cliffs to help frame the area I want to frame

Should I remove the front two streams then? If I make a stream infront of the tree, it’ll turn into a 3 block wide waterfall.

Yeah I would say so, Try that out to see how it looks with a little pool of water at the base

Terraforming and waterforming makes it easy to test things out. I usually just play with the shape of the cliffs until I like the shape then go in with water if I want it

I flattened my island and I'm instantly regretting it cause I miss the natural feel. I learned adding rivers and trees all over the place helps a lot and it is working well for me in that department but I have no idea how to landscape cliffs at all or where is the perfect place to have them.

yes, it's easy. First, place items together that look like a barn. Probably reds and whites. Second, put it in a spot that looks nice. Last, add some hay outside.

@fervent talon You can look up images online. Short version, they typically use simple panels for the front, stalls or cliff sides for the center. You can also use solar panels for the roof if you use cliff sides. Then just decorate around it

Well you don't have to do everything cottagecore if you don't want to. What ends up on your island from things you like is a theme enough. With that disclaimer, you could do water, rocks, seating. or cute little aesthetic like a gnome picnic or whatever you like. if you search acnh island decor you can find a good amount of cool stuff

Yeah, the point is to make the bamboo more a diagonal to frame the house a bit. So I would play with aligning them more to the right. I can't tell in this picture if you have room with the fence but I would out the one closest to the house over two squares even if you have move the other one up 1 square. See how that looks

@left vine you're just mixing cool colors and warm colors so it looks a bit jarring. replace whites and blues with reds and oranges. It'll work out!

I need an advice. So I have this square garden island precisely in the center of my island, which will be connected to other parts of an island. Currently it has 2 bridges in the upper part for the museum.
So my trace of thought was something like "wait, 2 bridges per side is like 8 bridges total, so I won't use them anymore and that is not cool". So I came up with that triangle part (for the left and right side) with the diagonal bridges. The problem is I don't know what to put there. So that is the question. Any ideas?

@viral maple depends on what you want to include in your island. I ended up moving everything to the beach, figure out the shape I wanted my terraforming to take and what my must have decorations were going to be (ex. I wanted a farm, an orchard, a kinda hid away campsite, I also wanted my museum directly behind my town hall. Then ruff in the shape. I wouldn't mess with the main water features too much since it's hard to make them look natural like they are unless you are 100% sure you want to change it

I only tweaked my main river very sparingly.

I legit drew a square on a piece of paper/whiteboard and drew shapes within that square. I would then keep in mind the general location of my must haves in mind and made sure there a shape to compensate it. I find designing really fun so I got real into it though

As for a theme @solar panther just look at inspiration online and the collection of what you put on your island will be your theme. I have like half my island more civilized (cleaner designs with fencing and farms/orchard. Then I have the other half more natural (not cottagecore) just because that's what I liked and how it came to be over time when I changes stuff out

Keep in mind cliffs will block your view, even more so if there are trees so keep that in mind when you make cliffs. I kept most of my cliffs in the back. Yeah I store flowers and bushes in the back of my island since you can't see them anyway

I'm a fan keeping white flowers to a minimum in the areas I want to be a bit darker (My whole island only have blacks, blues, purples, greens, and white flowers) no so I like using white mush items to bring some contrast into the setting. It lets me really highlight the item if that's the effect I want

hmmmm if you want to use either of those I would say try imperial but then use some white flowers to for variation in color. The front two corners don't have to be bushes. For example, you would use hedges in the front mixed with other fencing types if you like it squared off or use a flower bed to create the front /side of the fencing

Oh is the zen fence a different section in the foreground? I think that is cute. You could also take the front of the fence on the right and put a flower bed there (dirt path with some flowers) if you wanted. Also consider what furniture items you want to place! Looking good though!

oh, I thought it was a strip (4X1). If you want to do 4x2 then try taller flowers in the back and shorter ones in the front. So the back row can have red and pink hyacinths, mums, tulips and the front row can have white and pink/red pansies, windflowers, cosmos

The point is the taller flowers in the row closest to the house would give the illusion of a fence/more closed off area but the front row will pull the white from the back zen fence

i think "the path" looks best when it's a little curvy and not so straight, i would adjust it so it follows these (very loose, excuse my bad photo editing) lines, then maybe plant a flower or two in the grass? i would also put a log bench in front of the waterfall so you have somewhere to sit!

I'm back. @thick goblet I think you have some options, you could put the flower bed in the back and move the chairs up front. You could also make the chairs more like an L shape close to the house (you could also extend the stones to be under the seating. You also make the flower bed a backwards L (1 dirt square thick) and make it line the fence on the right. You could also shrink the yard a bit or add a nice rock or something. If you shrunk the fence you would line the space between the fence and walkway with flowers (on dirt), Play with it and see what you like! Also consider adding more furniture or lawn ornaments if you want!

I would suggest a little seating area with a tiny library around some bushes and flowers if it's near the entrance. You could also do a little phone booth and clock tucked around nature if you wanted a more aesthetic way to use the space. You could also do season decor right there by clustering some of the mush stuff together. You have plenty of options other than these! 🙂

@thorn flare I would suggest deciding a theme, figuring out what type of pathing you will use, ex. "The Path", Streets, long straight paths, or just tiles. Then starting to decide where buildings will go and how everything will connect, usually connected via paths.
