@fossil fog if you want to it be more of a market in front of the shops, then I'd suggest to use a few variety of designs for the stalls, add some flower pots/potted plants, and miscellaneous items/trinkets. If you want to whole area to be a coffee house type thing (to me it looks like one of those coffee kiosks in shopping malls) you can try to have less stalls and more chairs and tables?

@zinc quarry we have the same river openings so heres my map. I made my rivers from scratch. Just keep in mind where u want your river to start and end and try not to have more than 5 blocks of water in a straight line for a natural look. Make sure to round off all the corners too! Also recommend to map out your river roughly before filling it all in

Otherwise, a lot of people like to scatter their villagers and integrate them into areas that are themed to their personalities or an area that matches their house exterior (for example, Dom has a log cabin exterior so I put him on a cliff where my hiking trail is)

@plush shell if you're going for a structured neighborhood, I recommend planning out the spacing first by laying down paths/squaring off areas where the houses will be so you can get a visual of how much space you have between houses as well as lining them up properly~ if you're scattering your villagers in different areas then I'd recommend to place the house down in the area and just add decorations around it and allowing it to flow. @tribal lichen many people start with small sections and find inspo for little areas as they go, then they connect the small areas together until everything flows. I've tried to plan out my entire island before and I've also used the planning small sections method as well and I prefer the latter :)

@tribal lichen My biggest advice is to take a section at a time! Terraform as you go - sometimes if you plan too much ahead it doesn’t end up like what you imagined

Which i have stairs on each side and the sides are uneven but it’s kind of hidden because I put benches and shrubs and more Dino’s up top. The only problem is down below you can tell it’s uneven because I have my trex there

yeah my old museum was perfectly even (this was from april) but I want to only have one bridge leading up to it from the south side, but since the bridge is even, that would either result in offcenter bridge or offcenter museum

@quasi eagle there's not much that can be done about the evenness of the museum positioning if you want it "centered" and only have one incline leading up to it - what you can do is put the museum at the edge of one side (either by incline or opposite end) and add a little area on the other side. Such as a viewing platform, cafe, little garden, little statue park etc.

@woven drift I would use items that fit the cottage core theme but also what I think the villagers would personally like/use in their everyday life. So it’s all based on your interpretation of what you think they would like. I don’t like to give them all gym items because I like them to be rounded characters that like other normal items too. So example, for my jock, I gave him a chair to rest on after his work out. A bbq grill, and a pool. Maybe you can give Ronald a clothesline(to fit that cottage core theme) with that flannel shirt design, since he wears that?

@small pulsar not sure exactly how long my path is, but my theme is city and I just had a blacktop path from my street to the museum and flowers lining the sides. There are a few floor lights between the flowers and waterfall as well~

How have you guys been decorating your beach rocks?
My island's pretty much all decorated except for the east rock (pictured), the northeast rock, and the northwest rock. For the west rock, I decorated it as a "mermaid-themed souvenir area" but I'm blanking out on ideas I haven't already used for the rest of the rocks.
The east rock is next to my "neighborhood" area and directly north of it is a beachside casual classroom area (a bit of it is visible in the pic), not sure if there might be an idea that ties in well with those nearby areas.
Edit: Not sure what I'd classify my island aesthetic as, but I just tried staying away from a too industrialized/modernized look, but also not entirely cottagecore... so semi-cottagecore?? Is there a list of aesthetics somewhere to reference LOL

I’m working on an observation deck for my island and I just furnished it! It looks decent but I’m wondering if there are any ways that I can improve upon it. once you have 150 weeds planted, your weeds will no longer get larger and no new weeds will spread, so if there's an area you want the large weeds in, plan accordingly

@woven drift I would recommend looking at some 5 star islands yt tours, or even #dream-addresses🌜 to figure out if there’s something specific you want to do such as a neighborhood, or a spread your villagers out, if there’s a theme you want, etc. then once you get 3 star you can start terraforming. And I would recommend starting from the entrance and work your way out. Also! There’s a list of general decorating ideas in the pinned section if you haven’t checked it out. (Sorry this is a long message) @gentle acorn and you can follow this as well!

@gentle acorn @woven drift also, if you’re the type of person that likes to plan things, there’s a link to a website in the pinned section (happy island designer) that you can pick an island layout like yours, and then play around designing it as well! Just be careful because sometimes it doesn’t work out how you plan and it can be frustrating! (I tried to do that personally and hated my island so I redid it)
