Got it! Went for a more natural vibe to my island, inspired by City Folk and the other classic games
All of the paths are dirt, and the buildings are somewhat randomly scattered around (except for the shop and tailors, which are together like in Wild World)

@vale echo any decorating on your island would have to be done by you. The only thing others can do is plants flowers or if you’re best friends, dig up trees. You can always post pictures of a section and ask for help, opinions or suggestions. Everyone is super friendly and helpful.

@woven drift yes and no. It just depends on your theme and what you want on your island. My villagers are integrated into the island so they have a role in it. I have also seen that my villagers are exploring the island more since they are walking to visit their friends or to certain parts to get to now rather than staying in same areas because they don’t need to go so far when visiting their friends

@woven drift I'm the same way honestly (more comfortable with water) and based on that I would recommend not flattening your island... play around with your existing cliffs first, build some new baby cliffs, get a feel for it. bc if you have a entirely flat island and have to start adding cliffs when you're not super comfortable building them, I imagine it being a very painful process lol

@stuck trail super true. I got rid of my cliffs and had nothing to work with. And I’m terrible at designing hills. So I gave up on that aspect and focused on decorating to make up for my lack of skills in terraforming hills

@twilit lintel that's exactly what would have happened to me. and it's fine to have an island that's primarily flat (yours looks great!) but I knew I would regret it bc I really enjoy cliffs... I'm just bad at them lol

Keep practicing with the hills by just experimenting with smaller ones. The skills you learn apply to the bigger ones 🙂

@stuck trail lol I regret it but also don’t because it gave me the opportunity to be more creative with my decorations, especially my use with the simple panels. Plus I don’t need hills on my island too much since it’s a tropical resort. More modern than tropical really.

@stuck trail you can roll them over flowers and they can spawn there too. If you roll them over paths they will get smaller. They need about the same amount of space as a rock to spawn but you can always clear an area later on for them to spawn in if it gets too full

@crystal ravine there’s an awesome starter guide to terraforming in the pinned posts. How close? Do you know how many squares... if it’s not too close (6 or less) you can use cliffs to hide the RS.

@wispy tiger I originally had one residential area, and it took a lot of space personally. I prefer having them spaced out so that they each can have their own area and I’ve also noticed that my villagers are exploring the island more than they used to when they were in one area.

@radiant cloud I only recorded the first 30 seconds as a intro by myself. However, I only take a group photo with all the participants at the heart-shaped area (the finishing line)

Check out my graveyard/rock garden (the graves are set up from order they left bottom to top with the ugly lone grave being Rodneys and if the grave has an incent burner in front of it i liked that villager)

I have this. The top and middle is my garden, the left where the houses are I’m planning to do the same on the other side, the plaza area I’m gonna make kinda like a mall on the right of the plaza and to the left of the plaza is gonna be the campsite and a playground.
The problem is that there are many more resources and furniture than I thought cuz this is my first Animal Crossing game

@abstract parrot i feel like the left side can give you more space for you to decorate on the other hand you can maybe get a custom code for a shirt or just drop an outfit on the ground so it looks like someone is working the stall if that makes senses, and helps!
