I would do a mix of picnic area, with the pine trees and mushrooms. you don't need inclines to the top level, but for the first it would be nice, then use vines to get to the last one.

i just got terraforming, and started thinking about island design myself. I want parts of it to be a bit kidcore with the block furniture in pastel as inspiration

and moving it into a more fairy/forrest core. Basically very wood based.

Opinion: we all know that paths do not stay under buildings when placed on top of them, I just realized it is worse for the tents because they have roped off areas. I wanted to do a theme using sand as the base but so much snow shows through. Do we just accept this as our fate or abandon the idea and try something else? (one note it doesn't stand out as much during the night time)

Moving my museum; not entirely sure where; one of the red dots. I'm thinking the one in the back to the left. But any thoughts?

The area next to and around the plaza will be villager houses, a park and a resturant.

The museum is a BIG building, so I usually like to have it's back against a ledge or river. Depending on what you're doing in the back, I might put it in the back right, but if that area will be less developed and more natural looking, I'd probably go with the area to the right of the plaza and maybe add some waterfalls or something around it to give it a grandiose kind of effect.

I'm just getting started on terraforming my first island and would like some tips/thoughts on this layout. I'm worried I might be over or underestimating how big the spaces are. The unmarked houses next to Agnes and Papi will be rotating villagers, and the one in the north east will be my home. Any input is appreciated!

Thanks! My island is called "River's End" (or would be if I had been able to fit all the letters 😤) so I wanted to have a lot of rivers. I'm trying to find a balance between walkable and interesting. I think a big thing for me is I want it to be aesthetically pleasing but not at the expense of game play. So like areas where fossils might be hard to find and things like that I'm trying to avoid

for me the point with rock area is to make it easy to hit the rocks multiple times.

i would have pillars and gates in the background, so the taller objects, and then have them become shorter as you go further to the front. and then an area with some seats and maybe a blanket and some intems in front. have flowers and moss spread along it. @echo canyon

I usually start out with just a hedge around, and then fill in items, try having the hedge and the pillars in different layers, and overcrossing @echo canyon

So right now I have almost everything living on the beach while I do some drastic renovations (the area with the grid is still under terraforming construction and only the area around the campsite is finished). I'm trying to get one bridge/incline built each day and one building moved off of the beach.

The circled area is essentially my "town" with the rest of the island having a more natural feel and a few houses sprinkled throughout. Within the red circle will have the plaza, museum, both shops, and 2-4 villager houses. Farm might be somewhere in there, too.

So given this layout, anyone have ideas for where to place the shops? I'm open to terraforming to make it flow better

I'm in the middle of redoing my entire island. I never thought I would because it seemed so daunting, but now after a year I have feelings for it anymore, and with storage sheds it's pretty easy. Just carry around that and a garbage can and begin clearing just one area to get a feel of what you wanna build next.

Resetting is hard because it's hard to collect everything again especially now that the discord isn't as active. Trust me. I have another switch and I started a new island there, but went back to my old one cause of lack of items.

Im not super sure I have one or how I would describe it

because if there' s no clear island theme, i would generally try to use some fencing in the back, maybe plant two or three coconut trees(between every 2-3 fence posts, make sure it is asymmetrical to make it seem natural), use a custom path, work with some summer-y, beach-y items in different colours, so that you have a nice combination that screams "vacation", maybe use a stall and some stools to make a fruit juice shop and lastly also work with weeds and dropped items such as shells and picked flowers to make everything seem even more summery and colourful

I’m using a water code. Should I place these spooky trees in it with wheat fields around it or should I just not put anything at all? I had the idea to put those trees and wheat fields, but I hate how you can still see the water code under the tree. I’m leaning more towards just leaving it empty. I just want more opinions though.

Hmmm I think you could look up some swamp core and maybe pull some ideas of how they handles items on water if you like the tree. You could also consider floating pumpkins on water if you want to keep it simple. I think either way will look cool but the tree prop looks a little awkward rn just because it's not fully decorated yet to imply a more swampy area if that makes sense. I hope that helps!

Top photo: I would remove the terraforming and waterscaping on the right. Having the terraforming like that and not at least rounded makes it look weird. Instead, I would add trees and flowers and other things. I hope this made sense.

Bottom photo: you could make a mini island or two in the middle, so that it won’t just look like a big space of water.

Here is my island, I just need suggestions for where to place the villager houses
