honestly I would say you don't rlly need to know a lot about pokemon to enjoy pokopia. there are references in the game, but I don't think your enjoyment would be any worse off for not understanding the references, the joy in the game for me comes from rebuilding the towns and meeting new Pokemon and raising their comfort levels 🙂 if you're not sure id maybe recommend watching a let's play of it if you haven't already? also mario kart world is really good
