You can get almost all of the newly added items yourself without owning the DLC, however it provides faster ways to get them.
The only somewhat DLC-exclusive items I can think of are all of the new home structures like pillars/counters/partition walls, and the photos of special characters that you receive in the mail after inviting them with amiibo and designing them a vacation house, but technically you can still get the latter ones through trading online with someone that obtained them

There are 21 possible islands. There are normal islands with just a gyroid in them. Special islands that include all of the seasonal ones (bamboo, summer shells, snow crystals, maple leaf, cherry blossoms, mushrooms) there are islands with moss/vines, shooting stars and star fragments when you hit rocks, and ones that have vegetables.

I have been informed the Sloppy furniture set cannot be catalougued or brought normally in either the DLC or nooks and the only way to obtain it is through resident services box. Time travel forwards until you get a camper, check camper and repeat. You will get in priority the personality you lack most of, so if you have no cranky for example you'll see more cranky and if you go fowards only you shouldn't get repeats

I thought I would submit my last fossil today but Blathers didn't mentioned anything (I thought he would say something along the line "The last fossil has been found". I ran through the fossil area but couldn't find any that said: "Still missing a piece.". Also when checking my catalog it counted 73 fossils. Are there more? Am I missing some? Does Blathers just don't have a message for me when completing them all?
