Ok, so I'm fairly new to Animal Crossing. I have a pretty large pumpkin patch that gets me about 260k bells from a full harvest. The 11th and 12th are both rainy on my island, so I've been traveling to the 11th, then the 12th, then to the 13th to harvest them, then I start over. However, my wife has just 2 days she's been going back and forth between, working on her flowers. One of those days is rainy, and the other is not. you very likely did hit 5 stars at some point and didn't notice. the chance of your first lotv spawning when you first hit 5 stars is substantially higher than how it normally is at a low counter, so it spawned and then you went back down to 4 stars before checking. many people have had this happen to them, i doubt it's a rare glitch.
