Have a look at minute 5:00, there you can see if your normals are faced inwards.

In this video we talk about the correct workflow to export your 3D models from Blender to Unity.I'll show you the right way and introduce you to common errors and show you how to fix them.

If you are interested in game design and gamedev, we are happy to offer you help on our Discord. You can also check out our Instagram or support us on Patreo...

You can also show me your model if you like

#

is screenshot enough? or would you like the .blend file?

#

it's fine with me either way

cold hearth
#

as you like, i can have a look at the blend file

cold hearth
#

Ah, you just have curves there

woeful parcel
#

I created the model from a .svg file. Extruded it by 0.0001 and added Solidify to thicken the walls by 0.0001 too

cold hearth
#

Select your model and then do this:

#

ah sorry, not curve πŸ˜„

#

"Mesh"

#

Object > Convert > Mesh

woeful parcel
#

ok, thank you πŸ™‚ I've converted it to a mesh, imported it to unity. No errors about normals anymore, however, the light issue is the same

cold hearth
woeful parcel
#

ah, sorry, I did get the error about Normals in Unity

cold hearth
woeful parcel
#

haha, you're absolutely right! πŸ™‚

#

now, what did you do? πŸ™‚

cold hearth
#

Thats your model. You have no smoothing groups.

#

watch in my Tutorial at Minute 6:00

#

there you can see how to fix.
You need to define sharp edges. (like everything about 90Β°)

#

And your Scaling is off... this is in Minute 2:50 in the video.

woeful parcel
#

ok, got it. No more lighting issues. Two questions, please. I exported it like this, but I get this scaling after importing to Unity, which multiplies the actual scaling in Unity by 1000. How can I get 1m to 1m?

cold hearth
#

Do you use the standard FBX exporter or the exporter i mentioned in the video?

woeful parcel
#

standard

cold hearth
#

try to set a check in apply transform

woeful parcel
#

i did in the second screenshot

cold hearth
#

ah

#

yeah you are right its 1000 scale. one second

woeful parcel
#

your model you sent me is fine

#

maybe I should use the plugin from the video?

cold hearth
#

Did you do the "apply all" step?

#

if you select your model and press "N" you should see its transforms

#

if its like this, its fine

#

if you have weird rotations or scale, you have to apply them with CTRL+A

woeful parcel
#

scale is 1000 on my model. ok. let me try that

cold hearth
#

Then you do Ctrl + A > Scale

woeful parcel
#

ok, got it. my final question is how did you smooth out the walls, please? I made all edges as sharp, but it seems I missed something?

cold hearth
#

i already explained it to yourself

#

you made all edges sharp

#

If you use the auto smooth, you can define an angle above everything gets a sharp edge

#

if you want to do it fast

#

I cannot find Normals->Auto Smooth

#

however, I was able to smooth out edges in Edit Mode by using this:

cold hearth
#

Which Blender Version are you using?

woeful parcel
#

4.1

cold hearth
#

Hmm.. maybe they moved it.. im on 3.6 ^^

#

do you have this one in object mode?

woeful parcel
#

I have this, but all three Shade buttons do nothing

cold hearth
#

Not sure if you overwrite it with your edge settings

Blender Artists Community

In latest 4.1 alpha the auto smooth option has been removed and replaced by a modifier. This means that every mesh you using auto smooth on, needs to have this modifier. Adding this optional would have been cool, but without the base function it means that linked object can’t inherit any changes, like auto smooth. So if you have a mesh, with ...

#

these bastards moved it to be a modifier πŸ˜„

woeful parcel
#

never mind, you already helped me really a lot! and the issue I had is fixed πŸ™‚ It's now just a difference in blender versions

#

ah, ok πŸ™‚ I'll try that

#

looking smooth now πŸ™‚

#

thanks, again!

cold hearth
#

keep in mind that edges like 90Β° must be sharp
