#ik but in woodwork progress is like

not really. it's just that you're new, so things don't seem as linear because you dont understand how they work together yet
coding to me seems just as easy because now i'm familiar with it. for example
learn about data types(int, float, bool)
learn how to declare a variable
how to assign and read a variable.
then learn about if statements.
then for loops.
then methods,
Then methods with return types
methods with parameters.
then classes
it just seems like a lot at once right now, because you dont know yet how things work with each other
thank you wytea, you are doing gods work
no problem
this is going to be much more easier thanks to you, and the progress is going to be closer to linear ! i cant thank you enough
oh you took it literally XD
seriously though, if you havent already, you should go through Unity's own beginner course instead
!learn
🧑🏫 Unity Learn can offer you over 750 hours of free live and on-demand learning content for all levels of experience! Make sure to check it out at https://learn.unity.com/
i did, is there something wrong about it?
not really, it's just that i dont really know your current level of understanding. I can tell you what you should learn, but i wouldnt know where you try to learn it from
so I suggest Unity Learn
no two people learn programming(or anything) the same way btw, so dont fret about the best way
just find what works for you
ive tried a bit of unity learn and it got confusing really fast
it's been a long time since I learned coding from scratch, and I dont remember how it was exactly. however, I think what you can start with, is this roll a ball tutorial
https://learn.unity.com/project/roll-a-ball?uv=2019.3&courseId=5c61706dedbc2a324a9b022d
Welcome to Roll-a-ball! In this learning project, you’ll: Use Unity Editor and its built-in capabilities to set up a simple game environment Write your own custom scripts to create the game functionality Create a basic user interface to improve the game experience Build your game, so other people can play it!
as you go through it, dont blindly follow it. when you run into something new, you can check out the "beginner scripting" course on Unity Learn for something on it
or if you can't find it, then look it up
or, ask in #💻┃code-beginner . Make it clear that you are a beginner, what snippet you don't understand.
people are more ready to help those that help themselves first, so show that you are trying to learn, not just blindly copy
I suggest using this project as a guide, because just blindly following through a C# tutorial or beginner scripting course without knowing any context for how things are used can get really boring
you understand things better when you know how they're used
this is the tricky part, how do i NOT follow blindly
ask yourself if you understand why a step is being made
dont rush. catch yourself if you find yourself just typing what they type without understanding why
the goal isn't to finish the game, it's to understand what they're doing to make the game
dont be afraid to go "wait what?" and rewind many many times
or if you really don't get it. ask in the channel. ask "hey i dont understand what they mean when they said this"
if you dont mind, how long have you been game developing ? it seems like youre an old wise man with deep lore
i will, thank you
i went to college for it, and have been in the industry for about 4-5 years now
and i still feel like I dont know enough, so i just wanted to make sure you didn't get discouraged
nah you are deff an old wise man that have a side quest with an important reward
get used to not knowing stuff, but dont let it discourage you. that's my advice
been messing about with programming for 15 years now and doing it for a job for 10
i still learn new things, and still looking at docs daily
amazing ! 15
yeah, never fall into the trap thinking experienced programmers have it all memorised or never need to google stuff
we google all the time
we just get a little better at knowing what to google
yeah on my 2nd screen got a ungodly amount of tabs open, to the various docs pages of what i am using to solve a problem
google doesnt answer my questions 😓 😔
so much of this is just taking larger problems and breaking them down into smaller problems you can solve or more easily search and get information for
making gta6 is a larger problem, like a studio of 50+ people and many many years problem
i always say to break down problems into smaller problems and work on the smaller problems one by one
this is one example
best and worst things about computers is they do exactly what you tell them
so you have to break it down to very small fine steps, and you need to be very exact in what you ask of it
google is still no use
i have to go now. good luck
hope to see you asking questions in the server, trying to learn
this month youll see me more than you like
asking frustrating questions
be polite, be patient. some people can get a bit irritated, but understand that most regulars deal with the same problems that beginners run into over and over
and not all beginners are receptive or show the same amount of effort people put in to help them
but i think as long as you show that you're trying, it's fine
and then there's the occasional "i'm new, how do i make gta 6"
im always trying to polite as its not their job to help me but just simply act of kindness\
or "i followed this tutorial and i'm sure my code is EXACTLY the same, but mine doesn't work"
and then refuse to accept that their code is not exactly the same
exactly. we're all volunteers
i have to go now
bye!
bye
i hope that youve relized that that was sarcasm
