If I feel like starting over while keeping a backup of my save, is it safe to simply copy the save folder prior to clicking Delete Game in the game's menu?

I know this would basically overwrite my cloud save, so I need to know that restoring the local save data will work fine and not constantly be overwritten by the new cloud save

Took a chance starting the public beta, and it appears to be using the same save. I was able to come back to release version without problems, but it's still unclear if I can safely backup the save so I can reset it

There are backups within the save folder, but there's no manual backup button anywhere, nor is there a manual restore button. So I think it's all automated in the game in case a save gets corrupted

I can confirm, making a copy of the save folder and restoring it after a game reset or some kind of test, is safe. Only "issue" is that it resets the daily reward cycle, and whatever Darwinium you gain also gets rolled back

17 constellation achievements are harder depending on how you play tho

meso gives up to 56x boost to primary sim and beyond gives roughly 8x

also you need to have a good amount of high level generators in order to earn a lot of metabits

if you havent even finished the primary tree yet at least 1 time, dont worry about metabits

they will come as you progress

the main way of progress at this point is getting further in meso and beyond as they boost your main simulation

No because in mesozoic if you hit like a certain amount of level on mesozoic you unlock a new branch and you also need to collect metabits to fix glitches that can unlock more branches in the eutherians route.
