I haven't checked anything else and I don't have any of the Amplifier nodes, but does this align with what you've found?

well yeah, progress (usually) doesn't go backwards irl either. they're not really doing things like manufacturing new VHS players, because we have newer and better technology now

and in the same way the game has no reason to go backwards
