Do badges effect event speed? How do some people say they do it so quickly

badges affect event speed, specifically for the events they are from. each time you do an event, you get +5% for the 1st badge, +10% for the 2nd badge, and +15% for the last badge. The next time you do that event, those bonuses will apply. Each badge also gives you +1% in the Primary sim and (I think) all other non-event content as well (which is Beyond and Meso)

However, progress in the Primary sim does not affect events.. it’s one direction only

But the event is 'Face your fears' and focusses on the Cryptids that people e.g. sit round a campfire telling spooky stories about. A very definite subset of Cryptids.

As to why they're considered scary? Why is any scary story considered scary 🤷.

The BBC article headline is simplistic (no surprise there) - in the body there is more info on what other data may be involved. And I'm sure that the more specialist news sites will have more clarity / info.

But generally, even if not directly affected, is useful for people to be aware that this stuff can and does happen, so to be careful, take reasonable precautions etc. ...

This kind of stuff has been happening just about as long as people have been using the internet. There are companies that have not just fallen victim to data theft, but by now habe a veritable history of it.

What precautions can one take? Not much, except not using the internet.

There will always be a risk, but you can do things to reduce / minimise it. Focusing on the card data.

The easiest thing is to not let companies keep your card details on file. They like doing this, because it makes it easier (and hence more likely) for people to buy things. But if you say no to that (which means that if you want to make another purchase you have to put your details in again if you want to buy another thing), they don't (shouldn't) store it, so hackers shouldn't be able to get your card data.

Or you can pay through a 3rd party (e.g. GooglePay, PayPal) so that fewer organisations have your card data.

Another option would be to use the facility offered by e.g. Revolut that allows creation of single use virtual cards for online transactions, so it doesn't matter if the data is hacked.

If people have been affected, then freezing your card and ordering a new card from your bank is an obvious one too.

Tbh, it's down to individuals what they want to do, and how worried they are about the risk.

What you say is very specific and concerns payment. What you say is very true. I have to admit that I'm unaware of quite a few problems, as I barely ever order anything online. Thus far, in my life, I received only 4 shipments from another country, 2 of which were send by regular mail (new stickers for twisty puzzles). I don't stream shows or films. And if I do order books from the UK, I go to my favourite book shop and let them handle order and shipping. You could say I'm not only old-fashioned, but outdated.

Yeah, it is a bit sus, like, how would switching (swapping) accounts even make sense? If they were abandoning the game and wanting to "give" someone else their progress, I suppose I could see that. As to duplicating an account, I don't think you can do that.. you'd probably get flagged as a cheater if you tried (duplicate account #s under the hood, etc)

I saw they'd tried to do a 'join beta' command in the Semblance channel, so you might be right. Maybe they're planning on starting from scratch. They didn't say what they wanted in return for their account (in terms of level / progress etc).

Based on what I noticed in Alpha-chat, the game itself doesn't seem to flag up people sharing save files around.

Anyway, life is better for little mysteries 🙂.

Starting from scratch is ofc easy.. just start Cells in a web browser, save to Save Manager there with new account info, then on whatever device you prefer to user, go into Save Manager and restore into there.

Or uninstall the game and reinstall it. Also various bug reports exist about people getting new phones and their saves being overwritten.

I do wonder why the devs've not got a reset whole game button in the game. Maybe just because they don't want to deal with people pressing it, and then complaining 😁.

And, NGL, some people would get confused between rebooting their reality engine and resetting the game.

And there's often confusion and panic about the first singularity as it is. I wonder how many players have never ever pressed that ... And never got past the singularity.

It doesn't work like that: there's not a 'most possible' for metabits (green coins).

It's a balance between waiting to reboot, so when you reboot you get more; or rebooting early so you have to re-progress in primary, but have the chance to buy things with metabits to speed you up.

I quite liked speeding up and watching Halley's comet's orbit. Including it's tail keeping pointing away from the Sun. Although I think its tail should reduce towards aphelion (I don't think it does?)

Ofc these are only the vaguest approximations of relative sizes of things. Space is so immensely gigantic that humans can’t really wrap their minds around it.. and to attempt it in a game would be incredibly boring.

But yeah, space is too big for us Earth monkeys to wrap our heads around properly.

Like, I know I said this once, but someone in a comment section or smthn took The Visitor from that game, Look Outside, and calculated that they were about the size of the distance from the sun to the Oort Cloud.
That means that if the universe were the size of the earth, The Visitor would be about the size of a chihuahua.

i would guess the alpha save and beta save formats aren’t compatible with release save formats. if you are mixing them then i am not surprised you are having problems. How are the divisions for the temporary events determined? It seems like it's partially by join time -- the later I join the higher the division number. But it seems like it has to be more than just join time because I always start at position 500-1000 and it takes 6-12 hours for me to get into the top 10. If it was purely by start time, I'd expect to randomly end up in the lower positions occasionally.

As far as we know, divisions are filled up as people enter them and do something in them, each Div is 1000 people (except for the last one, and the cheater one). You will tend to do better on later divisions bc I would guess that the more competitive people will start earlier. As to time to Top 10, that's going to depend on what bonus you have in the event (from doing the event previously), how often you play the event during it, and ofc if you have the 4x ad bonus active or not

But if it's just when you start, then I'd expect that I'd get a semi-even distribution of starting position between 0 and 1000; that's definitely not what happens. FWIW, more competitive people seem to start at the beginning and the end, it's harder to get and stay in top 10 in either of those cases. I always have the 4x and have near-max bonus from previous events for all events.

Adding to Sepheria's comment, I suspect there are 'placeholders' in the divs, so that even if you join as the first person you don't get to rank 1 on your first click. But they don't seem to have any effect if you're actively playing - you'll shoot right past them.

I try and start roughly at the time I need to in order to get all 3 badges and some time spare to allow for distraction and get to rank top 10. This is cos I get bored. And does involve keeping track of how long each event took me.

Divs do seem to slow down in filling as the event progresses, so there's a risk that if you join as late as possible (from a badge perspective) that the people at the top will have an insurmountable lead. Or will also be 'sprinting'. Anecdotally I find starting with ~24h to go (~16 if you can avoid e.g. sleep / work / school time) is the easiest to rank top 10. But (with 100-200% badge boost and ad boost) I have ranked top 10 within an hour or with only just enough time to get my 3 badges - RNG I expect. I play quite efficiently, but not fully min-maxed.

I’m not sure how one legit could tell. It’s not like you are the only one entering the div within the first minute or whatever and seeing where it places you.. it’s way more dynamic than that with lots of people entering all the time (and most immediately making progress) + the servers would only be calculating rank infrequently (idk the interval, perhaps every minute or 5?).

I can work out that the majority of players are progressing slower than I am since I go up in rank quite quickly at the beginning, and the count to the next rank keeps going down, it just takes a while to get into the top 10, which means that a bunch of people in my division started with a head start (or hundreds of people all spend gems at the beginning which is theoretically possible but is weird). So what it feels like is that they're distributing people across multiple pools so that most people enter far down the list and there are people far ahead in most categories. A simple mechanism that would achieve that would be to have some ghost accounts that start far ahead and progress at a slower rate to make sure people are earning the rankings. One way to tell would be to have multiple people are start at the same time (or staggered by 10-30min); that would help disambiguate what's going on.

Interesting. My experience with starting with ~24hrs left to go is that it's pretty easy to get sniped out of the top 10. I also am pretty sure I sniped someone out of the top ten once by time-warping right at the end and jumping into 10th. If I start 48 hours out. I'm usually in top 10 by bedtime, sometimes drop out overnight and then recover to a comfortable pos 3-7. For example right now I'm #3 in division 161, both before and after prestiging. By the time I wake up I expect to be in the low top-10.
I wonder if you're able to play more consistently than I can. In any day, I expect to have at least one period where I don't play for 4 hours and near as I can tell that's way into the diminishing returns for advancing since the generator improvements have a huge effect on progression.

Indeed, if you click on that, you'll see your science, which is what your rank is based on. Clicking on challenge (as you see) gets you 500 more, and then all the rewards after you restart will be in science as well, instead of logits or badges

all that science increases the chance you'll be higher than other players' science, and therefore your chances your rank will be higher than theirs 🙂

That's simply a count of how many times you rebooted the main simulation. If you want to reach E17, you just have to reboot as many times as needed.

I think it's a measure of your production / production rate in the reality engine. Something in your stats should be above 1e17 (but less than 1e18).

To increase it, look at the multipliers. It's most likely Meso you need to do ... There are ||550 levels|| altogether.

The 3 means you have the ability to buy 3 different nodes in Reality Engine. I think what you see here is that you've repeat Primary after buying a RE node 14 times, but you've also repeated other times where there was no nodes bought in RE, for a total of 32 times.

The total amount of Metabits earned is the "simulation level,"

1e15 is shorthand for 1x10 to the power 15. Or 1 with 15 zeros after it. If you look at your stats in the reality engine it's the 'Total production'.

Can be a bit funky, especially if you haven't rebooted and your amount has gone up a level.

Fwiw, I'm E18 and my primary simulation level is 9.

I don’t think this is true. For instance, my total production is 5.9E18, yet I show E17. I’m on Sim #20, but it used to be #17 before I messed up at one point and had a few reboots where no gains and no RE nodes were bought. .. I guess it is true, I show E18 when I rebooted the sim just now.

Sorry if this is not the place to ask, but what is the point of artifacts? For example I can afford Himeji Castle, and even though it boost Middleages 5e5, it's still not even close to Martin City and therefore has no effect.

Yes, you are missing something. There’s currently 4 artifacts for Middle Ages. All those together means that Middle Ages produces around 1000x what Martian City does.

So I’ve been playing cells for awhile and I got this gorilla thing using 50 logic points but when I restarted my simulation and unlocked the primate thing after eutherians it went to the gorilla and won’t load in the actual primate level up so I can’t continue. Sure, but I mean in terms of how that factors into how metabit generation is calculated. The actual rate of generation within Primary is wayyyyy higher for me, which makes sense given our relative amount of beyond, meso, and events.

So there's probably some kind of diminishing returns curve for metabits is all. Idk if that will change with the upcoming reality engine revamp, where it won't be metabits anymore

... more relevantly, the revamp will happen before you get neutrino expansion, so.. no rush I suppose?

Imo your best bet is to get through all the Meso levels (there are ||550|| of them - this will have a big impact on your metabit generation. If you can, buy diamond geodes(s) at level 48-50 (you get a lot more trait cards than at lower levels.

Once that's been done, use the 30x shooting star in primary in combo with nanobots and clicking to 'force' metabit production for 30s.

The shooting star appears quickly after you open primary sim, but then takes a while to appear again. So you can e.g. switch to Meso, use ads to refresh your nanobots then go back to primary to rinse and repeat.

It's a grind, but it can likely be done by the time the reboot happens - depending on how much you can do it.

Progress in Beyond and events will help, but you can't force them, just keep on top of them.

Unless you are using a month of Infinity Boost where it takes just a moment to max all the boosts, then no, I wouldn’t. The only time I use ad boost is when i am doing an Event.
