I am the author of the study and stand behind the study and methodology and I am happy to provide further details / clarifications if needed.
However, I do not know what are WG's plans for Regular Battles. I think it would be dead-stupid for WG to introduce the same Skill-based-MM into Regular Battles and I want to believe they do not plan to do so. However, as long as WG is muted about the MM "tweaking" (they have never disclosed the fun battle modes use skill-based-MM), we can only speculate. Let's remember WG has come up with ideas like Spare Parts in the past so mistakes can happen...

Hello @warm charm . Thanks for reading the article. Regular Battles MM is "random" (within its tier & vehicle class matching rules) i.e. it does not consider players WR at all. My study shows that is the case (https://blitzanalysiz.com/blog/2020-11-10_rigged_mad_games_mm/#regular-battles-are-not-rigged).
When we select replays of player X, only the other 6 players in his/her team are randomly selected by MM. The player himself/herself is not randomly selected since we selected his/her replays in the first place. The whole point of the study was analyze whether allied & enemy teams' player selection is random. For Mad & Burning Games there was a clear skill-based-MM algo in the works. For Regular Battles, the MM was clearly random.

In bigger companies marketing & community engagement is left to people responsible for it. And there has been product managers in the streams. I think they are not just proactive and transparent about the chances they make, but WG does "stuff" that the player base has to discover. WG may later admit the chances if the pressure gets big enough (sub-5K MM-queue)

I’m not, you aren’t on the smallest out of the WOTB servers. Rating matchmaker as a whole is completely messed up on NA. You end up with the same teams with only 1 or 2 player difference 70% of the games.

I think it is great that WG experiments new stuff and I do not consider the ATGM episode a failure. Players will complain about everything new, but if you only listen the whiners, you will never take enough risk to keep the game dynamic and developing. I have not been bothered by missiles that much honestly even though I do understand the annoyance when meeting a super-good missiles-user. But that annoyance is by far smaller and more rare than meeting a "flanking E100" or a "camping IS-7"...

WG has issued bans on Asia server for countdowns in Ratings. Even the guys just wanted to point out how pointless the ratings were since you could get even into battle in Rating mode there. They were not permabans though. So be careful with that. WG Game rules clearly say match-fixing is a punishable violation.

@heady nova Not sure. But the guys on Asia server did fool around big time. Not to get higher rating, but just to have fun. in those days there were not enough players to get even into battles. Luckily WG was remorseful enough to give limited bans only that time.

is there any way possible we can get the ratings battle time frame extended. I ran into the issue a lot that Ratings Battles start 1 hr after I leave for work, and end 1 hr before I get home from work. Therefore, i do not get the chance to participate in ratings battles to satisfy my mission requirements. i do not only ask this for myself as i am sure others run into this same problem. Maybe extend it to start 2 hrs earlier and end 2 hrs later than it does right now.

@white spruce I was thinking integrating my clanmate's BlitzTools to analyse a given set of ratings replays to do ezactly that but for now it's an afterthought. As for peak player counts Blitzstars already does that for all the clusters as a whole but I do plan in parsing out bell curves and sleep/wake schedules tailored specifically for the leaderboard and maybe even for a single player. I've a lot on my plate rn so complex features like data analytics is going to take a while. At the moment and I'm closer to finishing a release version for players to use each Rating season

Anyways i do know what ratings is because I have won the IS-6 Fearless implying that i know ratings battles pretty dang well and i only said "Waffentrager Auf E-100 should never be in the game" because it's such a dumb thing to want because it literally broke WOT PC even after nerfing it to the ground without changing its playstyle but they decided to remove it. And for some reason you want most broken tanks removed from a game mode about battle spamming which it really would not make a difference if they were removed and want the most broken tank from PC into this game which already has enough OP tier 8-7 and now you want a OP tier 10

@solid pond rating battles were an exciting idea at their first introduction since it was new and everyone was hyped. However with the gamemode technically being permanent in the game, the hype died down making it dull and monotonous. That is why wg do not want to put fun modes as permanent. The temporary aspect of them allow for the players to look forward to playing something out of the usual.
Now that that is out of the way lets discuss the important aspect. WG want to spend their resources wisely and most cost-effectively. Putting these resources towards a gamemode lacking all interest and diversity, just means they will be wasted. Therefore wg puts those resources to everything outside of rating, whether that would be new tanks, events or maps.
Rating is just that thing that is in the game not because anyone wants it but because it was forgotten. (just like furnace minecarts in minecraft0

It is a series of 100k account fetched on wotinspector website. Matlab limits the size of files to 100k. I have made sure to have the account number of the first of the season in the list and the lowest rated player I have seen in game (900).
The rating vs ranking repartition function is correct, but this a is a limited set of accounts. From those I have used only the players with more than 5k career battles in the chart.

With more players in ratings, the difference in rating will be much smaller, allowing you to leave the "ideots" behind. Also, if you are so much better than the rest of your team like you seem to be implying, it does not matter that you lose. Considering that tier 8 was filled with 252us, AX's, and similarly "balanced" premiums, i'd say skorp is pretty average in raitngs
Key phrase is in ratings. Otherwise, it is a fantastic tank. Same with waffle, except you're constantly meeting tier 10s that want to rip you apart. And 62 is maybe not average, but definitely not fantastic. Especially with all the skilled players using missiles, which puts hull down tanks at a massive disadvantage. You saw 2-3 ATGM tanks every game, with 4-6 in total for both teams.

In the skorp, with its great speed, I can relocate quickly. I only ever moved when I didn't have shots, as to always support my team. All tanks require a degree of skill. I even took hits when I needed to. I am familiar with how to frontline, if necessary, in both my skorp and my waffle. I can even play the skorp like a med, to a degree.

This season alone i averaged 2.2k in the t92, and 2.3k in the skorp (46% and 57% WR, respectively) in ratings.

Seems im doing better in the skorp than the t92. I don't need to be at the frontline to carry a game.
A large part of this is not staying in one spot all the time. Ofc i moved up, or fell back, or flanked, especially with that wonderful speed in the skorp.

You'd be surprised at the amount of people that aren't the greatest at leading. It's not only leading, it's also aiming for other things. Tracks, guns maybe, hitting the right spot for that juicy HE, etc.
Playing aggro tds aren't a problem, they're meant to bully tanks, like the e50m except with a bigger gun and no turret. I get why you prefer them.

@ornate spoke Same thing happened to me, I played the T54E2 a fair amount but not an equal amount of battles as my fearless and I still got the camo on it. The right tanks at other tiers got the camo but not tier 8 so I think there's probably some mistake on WGs side that a ticket should solve

If your rating is truly below what you think you are getting, then it should be relatively easy to go up to your "actual" rating. Of course, the closer you get to your "actual" rating the harder it is to gain. If you are constantly losing points, then it means that your "actual" rating is lower or about the same as where you are now. Some players get around this by playing op tanks or spamming battles, which as long as they maintain above ~50% they will gain in the long run.

The reason they require you to take only maxed tanks into Rating battles is to avoid people going in with stock tanks or tanks lower than 100% crews, and then causing a disadvantage for their team. The XP bonus is there as an incentive to play the mode, and also to help grind for the next tank

If you perform worse than the skill level of your current rating, it means that you are causing the match to be unfair. Also, so many people are calibrating so its essentially random battles, which means MM is almost completely random so there is no unfairness

Very rarely can you gain points on a loss...The points system is rubbish & doesn’t reward you if you did well but just rewards all of the winning ‘team’ players, even if the lower ones scored less than you or were even afk!

My example was solely to prove that a pc player with 'almost equal' skills would win more from the mobile player than other way around because he has a much less hard time to hit quick peek shots, to hit cupola's at any range or to hit any other shot you need as much aiming as possible for.

Pretty sure twister and high tier tournaments are mobile only because the game was originally mobile, but became hybrid because of macbooks and steam

All I know is I have no issues killing or crippling any player in the game whether they play on pc or not. When I lose an engagement, its because I chose my decisions in the match poorly. Not because my enemy plays on a pc while I play on mobile.

To say otherwise is to make excuses for my poor decisions

Alright then. If i had to put money on it, I would say that Master_of_the_larks here is a better player. EU is much easier compared to NA, easier to farm damage. Many NA players that tried EU have averaged about 500 more than they normally would on NA. Different regions impact stats differently, and that is most obvious in regions like RU and EU, where there are many very skilled players, but I wouldn't call them better, unless the players being compared play on the same server with similar tanks and conditions. I am not saying RU or EU are bad players, because there are many fantastic players there, but different regions have different mindsets and playstyles, which impact stats and gameplay.

The top 5 30 day highest damage per battle for the vickers light 105 (i chose this tank because its a tank many good players have gotten their hands on, since it is the meta light tank currently, and is a great farming light tank) in EU are:

if the armor is red then you switch to premium, and if it's still red then don't fire because your HE won't pen if your premium won't pen (unless you're really desperate for like 50 damage at best)

It's worth waiting a couple of seconds to hit the shot with anything but HE

I do splash for HE, but only if I know that I have next to no chance of penning with prammo and I will definitely not get a shot before my next reload. I also splash on snapshots meant to drive people out of annoying positions if I'm in a vulnerable tank/position, but that won't happen often. With the amount of shells the VK has loading a lot of HE isn't bad, it's just a bit unnecessary when you aren't loading that much prammo

@lime sparrow I’ve not really played ratings because of the poor ping & package loss issues & the bad points scoring system! First calibration battle I played this time (just for a mission) we had an afk IS7! The next battle was a 6-0 steamroller as well as bad ping then I gave up!
Hopefully the new update has fixed the ping & package loss issues!
