I didn’t pay much attention to the covers of books, and am not much of a comic person so while they described the characters in fair detail, some like Viess were hard to visualise until I read The Blade

If you’re looking for canon, personally I think Lost Stars is a great starting point set around the time of the OT. If you’re looking for the EU (before the Disney acquisition), you should start with Heir to the Empire (although, warning, it is the first part of a trilogy)

Just started reading Quest for the Hidden City and I can’t put it down. It hit me while reading this morning that I think the young reader books might be my favorites in the High Republic series.

Yep, I’d originally thought of them as “kid” books, but they honestly have some of the easiest to read books and most fun stories and characters in the HR

Also some characters from those YA books become very important in the main HR storyline, so knowing their history really enhances the “adult” books

Totally agree! Vernestra was easily my favorite character from Phase 1. I’m only about 1/3 of the way through this book, but already really like Rooper.

And these books give a lot of backstory to Vern so you see her in a different light when watching Acolyte

Just finished this delight. If you’ve read post-Endor canon from 2014-2019, this is pretty much the finale, leading into TROS pretty well. If I’m being honest, a lot of stuff I found missing from TROS is in this book. Highly recommend!

Overall I enjoy TROS for what it is, but the thing that bugs me 2nd most about it is how they just ||freaking killed Snap Wexley, like wtf.||

How ||Snap, Nien (and Ackbar) ended|| bothered me too (and I would rather it hadn’t occurred like that, or at all).
But at the bare minimum, it does remind me that many of the deaths in real life war are exactly like that: sudden, senseless, and easily missed by the majority.
And that still happens even if the war is just. Which it isn’t always.

So since I can’t change the plotline, I use it to think about how war is a flaming garbage dumpster of stupid.

and you can't just dive into it, you have to read at least some other Legends stuff first or it'll make no sense lol

I’m almost done with NJO and it is fantastic! The Heir to the Empire trilogy is great and an excellent starting point. My personal fav are the X-Wing novels, especially the Wraith Squadron books

I have! I am also a big Starcruiser fan so have a big soft spot for that book! TBH Courtship was prob one of the EU books I cared for the least even tho it ties in with the Wraith books, my faves. I am guessing people who read Courtship first might prefer it to the Princess and the Scoundrel. Unfortunately, Courtship does set up quite a bit for NJO

I loved the first half of Princess and Scoundrel, the wedding and ||Luke revealing to Leia the truth about Vader|| was done insanely well. I liked the Halcyon stuff but it kinda fell off when they got to Madurs. I didn't like the villain at all, but overall it was a good read.

Courtship is very mixed tbh, BUT the og nightsisters are awesome and way better than canon nightsisters IMHO. It's worth reading for that alone, but there is some crazy stuff in there too

I do love some nightsister lore! I love seeing the original interpretation of things as well. I read Splinter of the Mind's Eye and was interested to see the original appearance of Mimban

The original Nightsisters are VERY different from the canon ones. I don't hate the canon ones, and I really love Merrin as a character, but they really became basically villains in TCW, and that's not what they are like at all in Legends. They're badass Force-using ladies who ride rancors

Dathomir is also very, very different in Legends

If you read Courtship and like Teneniel Djo, I would suggest reading the Young Jedi Knights books, which will also help set up the NJO

Unrelated to the NJO, the Tales of the Jedi comics are some of my favorite Legends stories
