prototype gear should not be locked to escalation

because it seemingly goes against everything they have been doing to make gear and weapons available to everyone by adding the raid exotics to retaliation for example

i think a much better system would be to have escalation drop an item that let you use it to prototype a piece of non prototype gear
whereas they can just drop normally everywhere else

It's specifically been added as a challenge. The carrot is the improved gear. Given there are many dozens of ways they could have done some sort of difficulty spiked content, it would still have been complained about because it wasn't X, or Y, or Z. They will tweak and change and improve. Some of that takes time. We also already have a game mode that is essentially more and tougher waves of enemies, in Descent and retaliations also see an increased set of 'waves' of enemies.

while i think prototypes and escalation are going to need a lot of tweaking, i think the current gameplay loop is fine, excluding the absolute resource drain
people just need to not burn themselves out before it is at a point we can unanimously say its good

Yeah I am all for most of it but I am dying trying to level up my chest piece to upgrade to proto. The exotic component grind is hard core.

The augments have a potential to make loadouts so much more powerful so that's something that will play out over time as the escalation gets more manageable. I'm glad it's a challenge that is built to be something one can work on that's not just conquerable on day one.

Donate anything not bolted down. Dupes of weapons and gear, feed to expertise. One countdown run, on challenging, netted me virtually an entire gear set in one go. So it's a good time to progress that.

Wear a full gear of items you don't normally use with an exotic weapon and armor - go countdown (challenge not heroic), set targetted loot to something you're not 10. If you wanna be max grinding, also swap skills and specialization for what you don't have / use.
Also buy to every vendors which items you don't have and donate. It's 7 items to go from 0 to 10 actually.
Use materials (especially printed filament) on exo or named items unavailable for the moment. Don't overcap these. Not the main source but a good side.
Not the most fun, but imo the faster to use those 7 days.

The reason im asking is because i have even seen some CCs videos (like the recent GCROCK video) and their builds and it happening the same to them. Like they proto a weapon, and only 1 stat goes up, the rest stay exactly the same. with gear, is either the core (armor/weapon), that goes up and the attribute stay the same, or the attribute goes up and the core stay the same.

1. You can optimize attributes on the weapon if they are close to max values or pretty high. Don't optimize items that have low values. You "tinker" with them.
2. You can only change one attribute, or replace the talent on a piece of gear/weapon (chest/bag/weapon). So only 1 change basically. You can change the main core or attributes unless it's a named item or an exotic.
3. Exotics can be recalibrated as you can't change the attributes on them. You can still optimize them and increase values of attributes but it gets really expensive if your attributes are low. You can re-roll the attribute values and the 3rd attribute on exotics to customize it. The first 2 attributes are always the same but will roll with different values each time you "recalibrate" and it will cost mats and 1 exotic component.
4. On weapons in most cases you want Damage To Targets Out of Cover (that's multiplicative increase in damage vs additive such as just weapon damage).

I think it's fine.. that's what makes events special and worth looking forward to. The bigger issue is token system is terrible, it completely turns me off from playing escalations when it takes like a bunch of tokens to play 1 mission, but reward is miniscule.. so win reward vs loss punishment is completely disproprotional.

I'm in general fine with the grind they put in. The issue is more with how you earn items. Drops should be much higher if they will keep the totally 1 in 60 million type of drop for proto gear inside missions. We fully understand that it's a material farm, not really meant to drop us amazing gear unless ultra lucky. But doing 2 TIer 10 Escalations and getting nothing, or getting rogues and losing like 87 tokens or whatever, leaves bad taste in ones mouth.

That's my biggest gripe right now. I've done all tiers and I see zero reason to play on anything above Tier 5.

expertise was always meant to be a long term thing. You can farm it still with all kinds of methods.. it's very deterministic.. Escalations is not and punishment is too high.

I started finishing my expertise now since I was sitting at 18 for a while.. I got to 20 in 2 days. Yes, countdown, XP farming for points, fillament farming.. all very doable and available. Tokens and proto cores are not.

the argument is that it's a material for proto drops, it's clearly not designed to give you god rolls. That's the whole point. And weekly raids/incursions giving you only limited amount 2 each requires you to farm proto gear in escalations for drops so you can either A) upgrade your 30 expertise gear or B) get insanely lottery lucky for a good drop of something. So escalations are basically material farm and unlike countdown and other farming activities, this one has bizzare drop chance across tiers of escalations and extremely punishing replayability with token system.

yes.. Fox's Prayers are pretty good.. depends on your builds but people use them even on AR/SMG builds because of DTOC. It does provide nice dmg bump even with rifle damage as core attribute.

im so deep into the expertise grind that i am running out of named gear for specific slots i had on hand to wear for countdown, so as im farming donations for gear sets, i am also wearing said drops for the extra expertise as it happens 😭

what I did is i did a bunch of retaliations and got a lot of reconstructed caches for watches and blueprints. Then if you craft them, it's pretty cheap like 900 or so money and maybe 30 of each material.. now with the event you can max out named items and stuff fairly easily just crafting them. That's what I did, I went up 2 levels expertise in like maybe 2 hours or crafting.

proto gear is basically for escalation; that the drop rate is poor, as is the core, basically comes back to my basic observation that in general rates are too low, be it expertise cost, or expertise levels. The amount of time investment without boosts is genuinely assinine. But, the changes prior to the season update show the developer is listening, so I would think over time it'll hit a middle ground between dev preference and player tolerance.

the caches cost a lot of ecreds tho, and they can give you blueprints for the ones that drop in droves anyway

requires patching, in the mean time, there is a workaround. So we can either complain about an update that'll take time to release, or do the thing that solves it in the interim.

Do countdown named item caches have the same loot pool for reconstructed caches? Or are there things excluded from one or the other?

no.. reconstructed are only for broken watches and descent.. that's it.. they give named blueprints you can't really get other ways.

countdown is basically just gear farming, so if you want to complete sets or what not, can target. It drops a lot of gear so a fairly low stress way to get a lot of expertise on the go. It does not drop blueprints afaik.

Oh yeah descent's currency gain is so stingy! It's crazy how the random boss rooms give like 3x the currency for finishing the arena in a loop

I'm not 100% sure.. I think reconstructed really give you blueprints so you can craft the named items but not sure if that pool gives blueprints beyond what you can get in the game with normal named caches. I can't remember now if I got an item as a blueprint that I didn't get as a drop from named caches. Probably not.

ive payed attention to both the rate certain named items drop as well as the sources of them (like DZ exclusive, or event items i got from a quickstep run) and prioritized those for actual manual use while grinding countdown

you can still get dz exlusive items from named caches too, like Hollowman or TDI Custom Kard..
