When pentagon first came out I ran it with a skill build

pentagons time is still easy to get, just annoying sittin there just waiting for it to come back up lol

just have to team up on them (the hunters). Using "freeze/stun" tactics on them works well, like Scorpio or St Elmo, foam chem launcher, etc.
It helps if someone in the group is running a team bonus armor build.
For example I use 4 striker with Perfect Vanguard & Perfect Galvanize & St Elmo in a 3 blue - 3 red configuration.
I build the St Elmo stacks at long/mid range, then proc Perfect Vanguard to rush the hunter(s). That 5 second shield protection
helps me to get the St Elmo shock rounds, which then stuns/freezes the hunters and procs Perfect Galvanize for teammates

Also it's important to NOT use any deployed skill (hive, turret, drone, etc) against hunters as they will hijack them.

If you don't have or not want to use St Elmo, then easiest freeze/stun build would be Scorpio & Perfect Galvanize/Galvanize & Perfect Intimidate/Intimidate & Hunters Fury.

so this might be a dumb question but how do I start a league mission? I've finished the pentagon mission multiple times but it's still only letting me play at story difficulty unless I do league but I don't see an option to start that anywhere

it's possible to kill the drone when it initially pops up (after you climb over the fence into the last area of the mission), if team dps is high enough.
I've managed to pull it off with 2 dps players and 2 status effect players (to stun lock the drone using emp sticky bombs)

just running the mission at league difficulty (Hard this week, I believe) will auto-start the timetrial. Having said that, you ought to be able to run the mission on any difficulty after completing once on Story - I'd suggest making sure you fully finish the story difficulty by following the 'exit the mission area' waypoints at the end, which will take you down an elevator and back to the central mall area (and unlock Darpa labs for you, the following mission)

The strength of cd farming is the caches. And they will be random.
The actual chance for exotic dropping from npc is pretty low. It wont hurt to turn on masks tho.

I'm unsure of catharsis' status in the target loot pool... some of the more recent items have been left out of it for some reason.

Anyone else on Xbox have a bug where when you launch countdown sometimes during the loading screen that it starts glitching out (almost like the screen is buzzing back and forth) and launches countdown but stays stuck in the loading screen? The best way to learn is to see and do first hand anyway

Add to that that a good bunch of the raid guides are either dated or don't cover the strat that your team will be using and watching videos beforehand won't get you very far imo.

I've had it a bunch of times when I was teaching new people and they were trying to do things they saw in a video even though we were using a different strat that I explained to them. But they still wanted to do what was in the video somehow

Not if you reach the last section - missile launchers. Like all heroic missions (and legendaries) the checkpoint is at the final section - if u die then, that is where you will respawn. For missile launchers: oxidiser.
