my experience on troubleshooting the random crashes/freezes on this game:

  • increasing the RAM (from 16 to 32) will increase the time interval for the crashes/freezes.
  • increasing the page file (to 1.5x of your RAM) will increase the time interval too, but not advisable to do this on a SSD.
  • updating all of the Visual C++ redistributable package did helps to increase the time interval.
  • checking windows event viewer after it crashes/freezes, i found out razer synapse apps is the culprit. bought a logitech g pro and uninstall all razer apps, and it did helps to increase the time interval.
  • reducing the object detail (from 80-100 to 40-60), and texture quality to 256 (no difference to my eye compared with 512), did help to increase the time interval.
  • updating nvidia driver every time a new driver released, most of the time will make it worse

one of these troubleshooting steps might solve your random crashes/freezes for today, but afraid not, I can assure you it will come back again in the future.

conclusion (for now):no matter what u did or troubleshoot, the random crashes/freezes will still happens, but may be on a longer time interval compared to before. i had suspect there’s a memory leak in the game codes either on RAM or VRAM. but at least now i can play 8-10 hours non stop without any crashes.

That's a rather unusual-sounding problem. My guess would be that it's some 3rd party app causing it (such as recording/streaming software or something intended to auto-optimise graphics settings). Try turning as many other background apps off as you can, see if any of them help. If you've got a second monitor, you could also try having task manager open on that and seeing what changes when the problem occurs

looking at their website, only 1 mouse is available and it stated 500hz polling rate. not sure whether u can lower it down. you might want to check with cyberpower.

Game starts windowed and putting it in fullscreen just sets it back to windowed. There's supposed to be a gfx xml file where I can set it to fullscreen before launch but either I can't it or it doesn't exist

@plain pilot basically any Nvidia drivers starting with 472.xx cause problems with Div 2. If that doesn't apply to you, then I can't help, sorry.

that's for Division 1, not division 2. Try looking in the same place (roughly - Division 2 folder obv) for the 'state.cfg' file

How do I get matchmaking to work on PS4? Whenever I call for backup it may take an hour to 30 minutes to get someone, selecting matchmaking for a mission or bounty never seems to work and continuously loads.

you'll get better results at times when more players are on (eg right now is a weekday mid-afternoon in the EU, morning in the US, so prob not that many players), and also better results with certain levels of content - on PC at least, you find much quicker matchmaking on heroic difficulty than lower ones, because more people have reached that level and don't tend to go any easier

matchmaking for missions that are part of weekly or daily projects are also more likely to be successful than random other missions, since more people will be trying to do those

Ah old xbox it's likely to be your internet then. Go into options on the game and select the option to display connection status (or words to that effect) and see what signal strength you have.

Also, if you're in the US and connected to EU servers, use the DZ trick suggested above or reset the game. Hopefully it helps.

OHHHH I just remembered what solved it for me... in game settings, there's a setting for setting max frame rate. Mine was turned off, meaning my system was trying force as many frames as possible. I set it to my monitor default and haven't had a problem since --- At least that's what worked for me

Things you can try:

  1. Disable DX12
  2. Disable any overlays (Connect, Discord etc)
  3. Verify the game files

It might not work (these random crashes have been going on for a while now and there's no definitive fix for it) but it's worth a try.

I have a problem in D2 where I would never be able to find a game on matchmaking. Been trying to queue up for dz, call for helps, raids, conflicts. been waiting 15+ minutes and still nothing. other possible solutions claimed by various people include: deleting all your Microsoft Visual C++ files (they'll get reinstalled as necessary by games), setting 'run as admin' permissions & 'disable full-screen optimisations' for all Ubisoft Connect, EAC & Division 2 exe files, moving Connect and Game install folders to your C: drive if not already present, and probably a number of other suggestions I've forgotten

Since I have gotten The Division 2, I've had a massive problem with rendering enemies and maps. Sometimes I am standing on nothing and can see nothing by the skybox. I am also killed by invisible enemies whenever I try to play the game. I don't believe this is my computer because I have tried to lower all the settings to no avail. My game runs at high fps when my graphics are maxed, so I don't understand why it is doing this.

Same issue, running the game. Gun stops shooting or Hostiles stop taking damage, then Delta-03 error. Sometimes can't even connect into the game at all. 1gig internet up and down.

undervolted my gpu again
disabled windows scaling (125% to 100%)

I would open hardware info and start double clicking things like cpu freq, gpu core freq, power usage on both and things like utilisation and voltage and see if you can correlate a dip with the fps chop

if you go back to no motherboard boosting on the cpu and the ram with SMT off is still causing stutters it might be worth checking your motherboard site for all the drivers and then if desperate enough attempting a bios update and checking if there was any issues with your bios/motherboard specifically on google

the thing is for some reason division 2 pushes my hardware to usage levels I usually only see in benchmarks

div2 will use 110w more than the same frequency on forza 5 will on my 3090 and it helped me work out the stability of my overclock

and division series has been known to be very sensitive to overclocking, except instead of chopping it usually just crashes

I think I fixed the issue.

What I did.
I went to the config file (i found it in C:\Users\YOUNAME\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\Tom Clancy's The Division 2) and folder name is "state" found options for "fullscreen" and "maximised" both were on false and changed them to true.

I have no idea how that worked but if you have similar issue of the black screen after few minutes of playing that might help?

That is a very odd and unusual problem, I'd suggest it's more likely due to something else on your pc rather than the game - perhaps some third party software that automates key presses or something? What happens if you unplug your keyboard while it's happening? @lofty heart

My game started to have FPS stutters all the time (It used to always sit at 120 fps at any time, now it usually sits in some situations at 80~ fps) in every window mode, all graphic setting and any render mode (DX11 or Dx12). It seem to correlate to the game capping my CPU out at 100% in usage. Which is weird, because it never did that until today, no new update, no new installation...well, I installed and played a other Ubisoft game that is using the same questionable engine (The Settlers), so maybe it's that, but I don't know. This is so weird.

Any advice?

EDIT: The background programs I use are also the usual's I had when the game just ran perfectly fine.

I did that, and yes, it somewhat alleviated the issue, but it is still there. I capped it on 80, and then to 60. The CPU usage dropped by a notch if only quite a little. However, the prevalent "mouse movement stutter" in normal performance was still there, albeit not as bad at least.

Would you recommend me to merely reinstall the game? I have no clue mind you, but I have a suspicion that the game started to act up, because some global settings were changed due to a newer engine version of a other game.

EDIT: My CPU isn't that weak either, it isn't high end of course, but it shouldn't be this bad. I had the very same issue when I ran an i5 something something chip, but upgraded it with a i7 7700 which shouldn't have this issue.

@lofty heart There's a whole bunch of possible fixes, from what I've seen they generally work for some people but not others. Try going to the compatibility settings for the game exe and turning on 'disable full screen optimisations', or deleting the contents of the shader cache folder in the Documents folder

Hello. I just returned to the game and I'm not having a fun time. I was doing the last pentagon mission (I think it's the last, anyway) where you have to kill the big ass marauder drone. I did it all on heroic which was already hard and a pain in the ass as it is. But the mission didn't even complete! The game didn't tell me to go through that door and elevator on the roof like it did for other people. When I looked it up and saw that's what you had to do, I figured it would just fix itself. But nope! No cutscene or anything either. I don't even know if the mission completed in the games eyes.

So a thing I recently did was, I put my game on my hard drive, not SSD but hard drive.
Made sure nothing else was running (no discord, no other apps that could interfere with the game). I did a stream up from twitch and Ive been playing comfortably for 4-5 hours with no crash

Does anyone know how to fix control setting issues on PC?, Im using an xbox controller and the buttons are haywire, A button is X and sometimes B. I cant back out of menu with B, B doesnt work at times when trying to jump over objects. the Pressing Left stick down makes it go to the map instead of sprinting. Gear is switched out when I didnt even press the A to equip it.

Pathetic for a team of devs to falsely tell its players that they're "looking" into the issue of crashing but fail to provide any sort of update whatsoever. It doesn't have the same issue as the First Division where the game crashes down if you alt+tab or other stuff? As far as my knowledge goes Nvidia never fixed that on their side.

DX12 works fine for me, rarely crash and no issue alt-tabbing. Occasionally the ubisoft ingame overlay goes buggy (invisible, or there but won't let me type in it) but that's a pretty minor issue compared to the endless crashing that many people suffer

Stick to DX11, @mystic brook! Yes! I do have the RTX 3080 (I limit the framerate at 60 on the second one to avoid more GPU usage and I think you can do the same on the original one too) and I had the problem that when I use the renderer and Alt+Tab for whatever reason the game crashes... visually you can notice some visual differences, yes... but stick to DX11 and you will A-Okay. Plus, the game still holds wonderfully to this day.

Now I bought it from Epic Games and after downloading the game and opening it, it resumes from my trial I played on Ubi Connect a while ago.

So I can't use cover or roll at all anymore, and I don't use DX 12. I tried to see if enabling it would fix this issue, but it hasn't. I've put over 100 hours into the game and have never had this happen before. I also started crashing a bunch recently too, which I had fixed previously.

  1. Chem launcher issue might be related to skill tier.. you can’t change skill until its fully charged.. in that case, you can switch to 0 Skill tier build ( All red build ) as chem has only one charge ( unless you use +1 ammo mod ) and when it replenish, you can switch to desired build

@fickle zinc had same issue but it happens randomly to me and game crashes. All i did was relaunch ubi connect app as admin and set all .exe in division folder to run as admin. It either crashed once more after doing that or never crashed from then on.

For those who experiencing crashes, you can follow my possible solutions below, which you can apply all or 1-by-1 to test which one works for you.

Disclaimer: These won't guarantee you won't have any more crashes (I still have crashes even after doing all of these), and this is not a detailed step by step guide. Google them yourself on how to properly do it. And I agree there's nothing wrong with your system, you only have the crash with this game. But for me, I like the game and enjoy playing it, so I only do what I can and share them with you.

But the most important part for me is now I can play TD2 on DX12 for half a day or the whole day without any crashes.

  1. Update all Visual C++ 20xx redistributable packages to the latest version.
  2. Uninstall XBox Game Bar (using powershell method is recommended, because I'm on Windows 11, after just disabling it, I still can open the overlay by pressing start+G).
  3. Disable Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduler from Windows Settings - Graphics.
  4. Disable Discord Overlay, not just from the game, but entirely. This will affects other games and TD2 Raids (you can't tell who's speaking unless you know their voice). With Discord Overlay enabled, my game can just crash while on the character selection screen.
  5. Increase your page file or your RAM. (I don't do this anymore, but I got tested it did prolong the duration of crash, i.e: from 5-10 minutes to 1-2 hours).
  6. Lower the power limit of your GPU (I don't do this anymore, but I got tested it did prolong the duration of crash, i.e: from 5-10 minutes to 1-2 hours).
  7. Lower the resolution of the game, either by lowering the resolution size or resolution scaling (I don't do this anymore too)
  8. Cap your FPS by whatever method that's comfortable (I'm using Afterburner to cap).
  9. Lower the sharpening to 0, either in-game or in NVIDIA Control Panel (What I found, this helps a lot to prolong the duration of the crashes).

i am having a problem i guess I bought only dlc of NY on pc and it still says that I use free trail?? must I have the complete edition of NY?

The "free trial" and full edition of WONY are separate versions of the game.
You'll need to download the full Div2 and make sure your payment for WONY went through.

After all that, make sure you're clicking on the actual div2 game, and not the trial in uPlay/Connect.

hey I'm on pc and when i load up division 2 my screen gets all darkened but division 2 looks fine? when i tab out the darkened screen is still there? and when i close divison 2 it goes back to my bright screen, its almost like a night mode and its super annoying can anyone help

make sure you have ALL game overlays turned off. That fixed the crashing issue for me. Discord, xbox, ubisoft , game bar, anything that could associate with the game. Overlays can cause the game not to fully load which will result in crashing.

still knowing nearly ~100 people having crash/freeze issues since ~1 year which have not yet been fixed .. a) in general, b) also a lot at HC Mode, where a freeze causes direct death in many times ... when will this be fixed ?

my fps keep dropping to ~8 when my character gets foamed. and it will rise to normal, once the status effect wears off.

EasyAntiCheat caused my computer to crash; this has never happened before. Anyone else getting this problem? Before the game would just stop responding and I would force kill via Task Manager.

had a look myself and the state.cfg file has resolution settings in it, but they aren't what I have my ingame resolution at, so not sure if changing them there will help at all

@winged glen uninstall/reinstall connect client, its a stupid issue with anti-cheat system if ubisoft hired good programmers it wouldnt be an issue 😛

Hey guys I'm having an issue logging in I guess I load the launcher it seems to be going okay until it gets to the first load screen before you see your characters and there it's just stalled out at 0% loading forever anyone have any advice I've already verified game files do I just nuke it and start from scratch

Just letting yall know windows 10 gamebar can cause serious problems with this game. Game would run at 8fps with it on and once disabled it now runs at 100 lol

As a rule of thumb, keep your Task Manager open while div2 is, and close everything non-essential.
note: do not close Ubi/EAC, that will cause problems.

So what happened with the game again after the maintenance? Last night I was able to play for 3-5hrs and today doing heroic game keeps freezing every 3 minutes seriously....

I have a weird issue where if I matchmake and someone joins my session, I eventually start lagging incredibly badly before disconnecting with a Delta-03.

This does not happen if I join someone else's session through matchmaking, and I can play for hours solo without this issue happening.

This issue is not present on my previous computer, so I'm wondering if this is related to the networking setup on this one

just started playing div 2 again and my game only goes for a few min before its switches to windowed mode and then freezes on a black screen. any ideas or things i need to do for this to run smooth?

I've just launched D2 for the first time in a while, and when it loaded it it's acting like it's the first time I've ever launched it. It has me do the lighting adjustment thing and then loads up to a campaign selection screen despite UPlay showing all my correct stats. Am I missing something here or are my old characters just gone?

also, if you hadn't reached world tier 5 with your character, then selecting to boost to NY will auto-complete any outstanding projects, side missions etc - and you won't get the chance to do these again unless you create a whole new character from lvl 1.

hmm, ok - maybe try verifying files or reinstalling uConnect and/or the game. I'm assuming you don't have more than one ubisoft account and logged into a different one last time.

Nah this is my only one. And UConnect has all my stats listed so I'm not sure where the disconnect is. I guess I'll try uninstalling UC next.

Well after reinstalling it even UConnect is refusing to read anything from the servers despite no one reporting any outages 😡

And I can't even load their support contact page. Never expected Ubi support would be more broken than their games. Pretty impressive.
