For buildings, I would focus on the structures you need to upgrade your City Hall, such as Quarry, Tavern, Wall, and the other requirements for each City Hall

as for tech, you could do Eco tech, which won't give as much power but is a LOT less time, or you could focus on Military tech, for which I would recommend Pathfinding and the Big Three (Combat Tactics, Defensive Formation, and Herbal Medicine), which will increase march speed and attack, defence, health.
