If you are not spending in the game to keep up with a fast growing pace, then it's better to hoard speedups, and resources,

• use them during discount and rewarding events,

You need to have a mentality of maximizing value and outcome from every thing you do on your account.
That's why pushing for an epic skin that provides basic stats, is not ideal unless you can afford it for the purpose of cosmetic collection.
That being said, you do have to be pro-active to keep a spot in the top alliances so you can also gain speedups, rss from chests and grow your account.
Running forts, lohars, grinding barbs and keeps, being talkative, it all counts.

In a way, helping yourself that way, will eventually be helping the alliance you're in.
