Apparently they're just starting out in moving their security in house (from using 3rd party services) so its likely its just me and the head of IT if i did pass this final final interview. I began my cyber security career last year, starting out with youtube tutorials, then tryhackme.com, pentesterlabs and finally found hacktheboxes Academy. I successfully finished the Certified Bug Bounty Hunter Job role path and got the certificate. After getting the CBBH cert I began doing BBP on Hackerone, in order to combine appyling my newly gained knowledge and earning money. However I quickly got overwhelmed by the vast amount of information when attacking real world web apps and also lack a proper methodology when approaching BBP. It felt like I needed more practice so I therefor began doing machines on HTB, however BBP is only concerned with the initial foothold, so my skillset was not on par with what was needed for solving simple machines. Therfor I began the Job role path Certified Penetration Tester Specialist, where Im currently at ca. 70% of completing it.

TLDR: I'm looking for a study group for doing htb machines and learning the correct methodology for solving these machines. And hopefully making friends and connections for later!

What was the technical interview? (in a general roundabout way)

Sometimes, if they’re just starting out to move their security in the house, you’re in a great position to leverage you being malleable to the role to allow the head IT to shape your skills and the way that would best assist him

Set a goal to get the certifications that they want unless you already have them, see why they wanted to move security in house, what’s a long-term goal? What’s the payoff? What are the downsides?

You’re not competing against every GRC or SPOC analyst in the world you’re just competing against those that they’re interviewing

Are you physical? Are you able to move computers? do networking, etc. you have to leverage your strengths to show them, or the IT head, that you’re the exact person that he needs

Most people can learn cyber security, it’s your qualities outside of the field personality, ambition, loyalty, etc. that you must use to frame yourself as the exact person he or she needs

That’s it

Research them on LinkedIn research the business research why come with a portfolio, , pet projects about different software, give price points, etc.

If they’re moving it in house, you’re gonna be way more than just that you have to use a bunch of other skills too that others may not have

The technical interview is mostly my familiarity with laws and frameworks and how to translate into operational controls; My familiarity with the security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, SOC 2 etc). Explaining my experience with SDLC, a risk-assessment example and then just a brief explanation on like network stuff and incident handling, policy making and documentation; from what i remember, i also did like a basic coding assessment to show i understood how coding works and familliarity with git commands.
