General Rules
The following rules are in place for everybody’s sake. These are to be followed if you wish to stay. Clever use of loopholes with malicious intent will be overruled by staff.

**1. Do not be a troll.**We are here to have fun, discuss everything Hack The Box has to offer, communicate with each other and exchange ideas and learn everything about hacking and cybersecurity. We are not here to offend or be offended. If you cannot behave according to the guidelines you cannot stay. Behaviour that is seen as trolling, disruptive or toxic within any channel is not acceptable.

**2. Keep everything “Safe For Work”.**This means absolutely no adult material, no suggestive material and no material of strong political or religious character. If in doubt do not post it, and generally assume that the channels have children as young as 13 and their concerned parents reading your messages.

**3. Be respectful of differences.**There will be absolutely no hateful, disrespectful or offensive language or messages directed towards peoples differences. This includes but is not limited to any and all aspects of the LGBT+ community, religious or political beliefs, hobbies, physical or mental disabilities. Additionally, harassment-like behavior toward content contributors will not be tolerated. If you dislike something, it's okay to share feedback as long as it's constructive.

**4. Keep it legal.**Do not request, suggest, perform, promote or in other way or shape discuss illegal activities. We respect and follow the Discord ToS as well as the HackTheBox ToS, and do not hesitate escalating matters appropriately, if we deem it necessary. If in doubt, ask a Community Administrator before posting or don’t post it at all. This should go without saying, but this is not a hacker for hire server or service!

**5. Keep it English.**Unless otherwise dictated by the channel, please keep all communication in English.

#

**6. Do not impersonate other members.**This is very illegal in real life and it goes without saying that it should not happen in here either.

**7. Do not advertise.**Any and all advertisement of other Discord servers, communities in general, personal businesses or anything that will financially benefit the author has to be approved by an administrator first. If in doubt of whether or not something is advertisement, always consult with a staff member first.

An exception to this rule is HTB Referral links. These may be shared, provided they are shared in a relevant conversation, and not shared without context. Spamming these links is never permitted.

**8. Do not DM people without their prior permission.**This includes asking for hints for solving a box or a challenge, to limit the risk of spoiling for the other person. Unless it's related to server moderation, this rule also applies to DMing a <@&583629723523874826> and <@&583628976736567296>.

**9. Follow the direction of the moderating team.**The moderators and administrators are here to ensure that everyone has a pleasant and enjoyable experience on the HackTheBox Discord. Actions coming from the team are aligned with Hack The Box that tries to keep community happy, safe and toxic free. To keep this balance it may sometimes be necessary for a member of the moderating team to step in and direct the conversation, or member(s) involved onto a different topic.

**10. Names must be readable, taggable and non-disturbing.**Due to "popular demand" messed up usernames and nicknames will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, names which consists only or primarily of non-ascii symbols, zalgo-variations, unicode "art" and names written primarily with non-English letters, such as Russian and Arabic.

#

**11. No ban evasion.**If a community member is banned they can reach out to the admin team to have it reviewed after a suitable time period of no less than 1 month. If alt accounts are used to ban evade, they will be banned upon identification in line with the original ban

**12. No heavily intoxicated behaviour.**To enforce a friendly and welcoming atmosphere on the server, staff members reserve the rights to declare any member too intoxicated to participate in voice and/or text channels, resulting in temporary exclusion from these.

To contact an Admin or Moderator in the event of a SERIOUS RULE BREAK, e.g. severe cases of rule #2, please ping the role <@&861185840277487616>. Note that misuse of this ping will result in bad things.
