I think Natascha was a great choice. Could be lots of reasons why other actors weren't chosen - cost, availability, wanting to do it, or maybe they weren't considered as their acting style wasn't what being looked for

Ok, but that's because Universal didn't care about the project at all. They just gave a small budget and the people working on the movie wanted to make a "epic" with like less than $20 million. That's not a lot. Also, they did not do their research at all. It was a weird mix of Doom 3, Doom 1, and the main villain from Doom Eternal's DLC storyline. Bethesda was not involved either, which is why the adaptation is disappointing.

Thing is, this show is definitely not made by Halo fans, or devs, or anything. The guys that have the money are handing it people who are experienced with making movies, not people who like Halo. And on paper it makes sense, cuz you ain't gonna let a buncha nerds order around a team of professional film makers and end up with a terrible product, but in practice we always get unrelated mid.

-let's stick to the canon till the combat evolved ending (so people who watch stuff on paramount plus but don't play any games can get hooked)
-do something else than halo 2 (like a different version of the story from that game with some new stuff thrown in and so on)
-when adding new stuff it shouldn't be overly crazy and non-fitting
-instead of making an entire new team for no reason let's stick to blue team (so people who watched the show can get into books without being confused)

Most of the times though in movie adaptations like these the filmmakers are doing their own stuff and the devs are just there to be like "ok I know you wanna do your thing but now that too much nobody's buying that"

It comes down to streaming rights for content in different regions / countries and is why companies like Netflix started blocking VPNs.

Sometimes a company doesn't have the rights to stream content in a particular area, using a VPN bypasses those restrictions.

I don't know the ins and outs of the legalities surrounding this, but when it comes down to licenses and contractual obligations, it's honestly best not to poke the bear. Bypassing at the very least can get you banned from using those services.

I'm on edge because the show is not going to follow the lore, which raises red flags for me instantly, but they are using a lot of the lore already such as master chief himself, the covenant, Halo, and others. I just find it weird to see so much of the halo lore being used then them saying they aren't going to use the halo lore, it's weird. Plus I wish they would follow the lore so we could see some really cool things from it.

I think its perfectly fine for an adaptation to change parts of visuals or narrative.
What concerns me is the lack of any of Halo's tone or themes in the marketing.
The inclusion of the insurrection and spartan program plotlines, to me, are a big red flag. These are cool things in the halo universe, yes, but they have nothing to do with the story Halo was telling (at least the trilogy), which was an exploration of man's relation to religion and discovery of the unknown.

I think the First Look trailer was much better at conveying what a Halo Series should be about, the second trailer was very weird. But I think a lot of the problems come from the editing, they were probably editing some scenes rather than others in order to appeal to the general audience. Maybe the series will be more similar to Halo than it is shown in the trailer or at least that's my hope.

I don't like the fact they already know about Halo though, because it takes away the possibility for some fans to fit the series in the canon universe.

Chief was a Christ figure character, it wasnt even subtle.
The show should explore the universe for the sake of improving upon the story, not for the sake of "because the halo universe is cool". What's we're going to get when they try telling the story of CE-3 with all of this random crap thrown in is a story with no focus and is more concerned with throwing in stuff to pander to lore fans than adapting the source material.

I hope the show’s good right out of the gate. I’m tired of every company just half-rearing everything at first because “we’ll just fix it later”. First impressions matter, and the trailer has me a bit worried.
Infinite’s issues are seeping in day after day. We don’t need more halo fails in the lineup. I want halo to succeed, but in order to succeed, it needs to be good.

Not as easy as just putting it up on any streaming platform. Different platforms have different asks, restrictions and costs associated. Likely that Netflix just didn't offer what the teams wanted, needed or would have been able to do with Netflix. Showtime and Paramount were the winners for getting the show made

It's important not try and not get too hung up on "the game did X". What happens in games and books doesn't always translate well to film or TV. Sometimes it comes down to something as simple as cost, where it might be too expensive to rig up and animate a scene. Game of Thrones had to dial back the use of direwolves due to complexities: https://www.vulture.com/2019/05/game-of-thrones-direwolves-effects-difficulty.html. Lord of the Ring and the Hobbit appendices are also good examples I often use of what has to be done sometimes at get a good transition. If you haven't seen them, it's 100% worth the watch.

They've opted to go down the alternate timeline route which gives them a little more breathing room and scope to do things they maybe wouldn't have been able to if it was purely canon. From what they've said so far though, they sound like they've tried to keep a grounding there - some core elements of Halo but with aspects that branch off where they need it too.

And yet, I think most everyone here can say that they enjoy Master Chief as a character. Because they understand him. They know him. Or at least, they feel like they do after all the journeys of playing as him. There are even people that can relate to him, that can relate to the feeling of being used as a tool for someone else's gain.

A character doesn't have to be like you in order for you to connect with them.

if by good write-up, you mean whoever wrote it had excellent grammatical and punctuation skills, I agree with you completely. if you mean whoever transcribed it had excellent transcription skills, that too is a valid assertion. if you mean the reasons for which they desired to split from the Canon are functional explanations for why they chose to go the route they did, I disagree entirely. if you don't want to be limited by the cannon, and you don't want to negatively impact the canon, the absolute best thing to do is show it from different characters perspectives.

I like how everyone is complaining that Cortana doesn't look good, when it's literally her voice actress in all of the games, who her design was partially based on, playing Cortana in the show as well.

I've always seen it as a bit of a defense mechanism he's used since all the stuff he went through as a child. He's obviously not going to wear it all the time but he's often times relying on his programing to get him through the challenges he's faced. The armour is just a physical manifestation of that

I recently went through the Expanse TV series which is terrific, that show did a lot with a small budget. Halo's CGI and practical effects are so far beyond the scope of that show its wild.
