If the first episode is boring, that only tells me how the rest of the show is gonna be like
that sounds like how the halo show is for me except we have all the other episodes and I still cant really wrap my head around it and enjoy it
They should make a halo tv show game
No
That's like making a movie based on a book exactly like the book
That's what the book is for
Yeah so they should like un movie it and make it a book to be played
I would love to play as Soren
What you mean? The Last of Us Tv show is super boring. They couldn't do too much about it because the games are also boring, and zombies is such an overexploited genre, I'd rather watch The Walking Dead, which is also boring
I don't feel like this is true in every case. Books and movies are completely different mediums, sometimes it is cool to put a book directly into movie form (like Lord of the Rings, for instance, did an excellent job of this)
Sounds like you don't like gritty and grounded zombie genre. The first episode of tlou pretty much just copied the intro to tlou1 game. The intro where everyone got hooked on and remembers. If you don't like that but prefer the halo show then it's safe to say you just like action genre more
Or big fights and flashy colors
That's exactly the problem, lack of originality. Not only did they copy the source material without any important difference to make it worth it to watch over or in addition to the original, but they are copying something that originally is already boring
Yeah because the writer is coproducing the show
He's telling his story again but now in live action
They should have told the writer recycling your own homework sucks
Not like halo where they said they're making their own halo
They did, it's not a 1 to 1 exact copy of the game
Yeah, just turning the Halo games into a show would be bland, unoriginal and boring, I'm watching the story I already know but now I can't even play through it
Yeah because it's a story game first, action game second
While as halo is action game first, story 60th after 343 game in
And now with the show, that story gets pushed farther back
Great The Last of Us, you took pressing buttons out, the only thing that kept me from sleeping through your story
Yeah like I said, it's a story game made for single player only and story driven. Just like metal gear
i might have a thought of what season 2 should be
and it strongly involves the Fall of Reach
Honestly hope they just don’t do the Fall of Reach since I don’t want that masterpiece messed with
This
If they’re gonna be weird and make their own nonsensical non-canon thing then they should at least have the decency to keep to their own
Well, TLOU didn't try to appeal to a wider audience or subvert expectations. It stayed true to the game...and the first episode was fantastic because of it. I wonder what the Halo showrunners' excuses are.
Bungie wouldn’t have let it slide
Fantastic? = Boring?
1: Bungie had no say in what Halo was done with, do we have to remember Halo Wars was made without their approval?
2: a movie was being made during the Bungie era and nobody knows it if would have been good or terrible
I would say TLOU already had an advantage due to it being narrative focused. It already felt like watching a tv show/movie back when it first released. Still, they stayed true to the original. Unlike Paramount.
True. But the books had plenty of material to draw from and could easily supplement the story.
Exactly.
Season 1 could've been set in Harvest, an adaption of Contact Harvest. Sgt. Johnson could've been the main character
and he should've been since Hollywood wants a face the audience can relate too, there you go Sgt. Johnson. A character that doesn't wear a helmet 24/7 and is beloved by the existing community
But no, they literally forgot he existed.
Master Chief and the Spartans shouldn't have been the main center of the show in my opinion. They should've shown up time to time to help out. Really sell the legend of the Spartans from the POV of regular humans like Sgt. Johnson and his team. This way, they get to keep his helmet on, and we don't get any Master Cheeks.
The guy who played captain keyes should have been sgt. johnson. idk why they needed to change up races for no reason and butcher the characters from a narrative standpoint
You're comparing apples to oranges here. TLOU was designed to be as translatable to a cinematic experience as possible while Halo was gamey as it could be. Halo's presentation or canon was always going to be radically different as a TV show
Irrelevant and erroneous. As I mentioned before, the books had plenty of material to draw from. This isn't about whether or not one is cinematic, it's about both incompetence and being out of touch with the fan base.
This was the sole reason I dkdnt watch anything past the free episode they put out. Complety disrecptful to one of the, if not the best characters
Yeah, changing races is very disrespectful
The MCU totally ruined Nick Fury by making him black
"We need PoC characters in this tv show"
"Oh cool, so Sgt. Johnson, whos gonna play him?"
"WHO?"
Literally
Like if u want more diverse characters write new ones, and if u want people to like them then write them well. Dont half crap it and then be upset when no one likes them
Then they turn miranda Keyes into a nerd when before she was like princess Leia level Badass
Like no one else was willing to take there ship to follow a super carrier to an unknown location the galaxy. And before that was the one that Lord Hood had to hold back from engaging just before that
Like idk what the writers were thinking or expecting to get out of fans when they did what they did
THEN, they dont even have the freaking ARBITER as well?? Who's also played by a great actor who happens to be black as well, they replace his character with the girl who somehow in some way wasnt killed on sight by the prophets???? And dont get me started that they even show her respect a human, the very reason the covenant were on a genocide campaign is BCUZ humans could do what forerunners do, that put the WHOLE power structure they had at risk of toppling down and losing there place of power in the covenant
Bcuz if the forerunners are gods, and only the humans can really access the same things forerunners can and not themselves wouldn't that make them more special then the prophets?
It's like theyd probably have to give up there place as leadership of the religious section of the covenant
As u would see if u played halo 2, they def dont want to give up there place as they betray each other with the power struggle
And then the spartan team they went with would have been a golden opportunity to give us more details of blue team that we finally got to meet in halo 5
Like that was one of the few things I really liked about halo 5, u got to meet and get to know people that the chief new that he grew up with and worked with directly the most
And DONT even get me started on how disgraceful they are with the respect of Chief's Helmet
On a side note, had the show not been chosen to carry the title of "Halo" I personally think it was average. And maybe would have actually enjoyed it to some degree
But the level of sacrilege that took place was beyond painful
(Just so u have a notification to look here)
And Jacob Keyes (I forget if his first name is Jacob but I'm prettty sure) how his character was done (outside of race changing him, which due to the other cast of black characters who are literally the BEST characters in the game which made me think that was absolutely unnecessary) he just, between what we got from halo 1, and halo reach he didnt feel properly done as a character at all. I will admit there isnt a lot to go off but I would also imagine they could have found more matieral off of the books? But I've only read a couple of those myself
I hoped that the halo tv show is going to be a epic adaptation to the halo games and books but the writers some how they ruined the most iconic, popular, and revolutionary games of all time.
The halo tv show has massive potential it could of be a adaptation for the fall of reach not Chief’s childhood and training to be a Spartan there’s Already a movie about that I meant when you know when reach is being invaded by the convent and force to leave behind the other Spartans not knowing they survived or halo first strike how Chief was able to end up at earth and how Johnson survived, or it could be both the fall of reach as 1st season and 2nd season is first strike because a lot of fans first time play halo are confused how Chief and Johnson ended up on earth.
Unfortunately not was not what the writer think they made it not canon that chose isn’t bad but because they wanted to make their own story but still a miss opportunity then I heard news that the writers didn’t look at the games WHAT IS THE POINT OF MAKING A VIDEO GAME ADAPTATION WHEN YOU DON’T LOOK AT THE SOURCE.
They did look at the games, that article that said that is incorrect
It was later clarified
Thanks for clarifying that 🙂
I just hope that season 2 fixes the mistakes from season 1 and improve I want this series to be successful.
Even if the halo tv series whole plot wasn’t great but visual effects and costumes were really well but cgi was a bit unnatural.
But Jen Taylor returning as Cortana it is parts of the show that did correctly and it will be interesting what her role will be at the second season
How I heard the ended the season 1 I have no intention of watching the show at all unless they can pull there act together and learn how to write a good show
And how the show went it feels like they didnt do ther research at all. So when they said they didnt look at the games i was very quick to believe it as it felt very accurate tk what I was seeing
From what I've heard about the last of us TV series I've heard they've stayed true to games for the most part and it's getting high praise. Almost like doing ur research pays off
Yeah true
You know what could have worked
If Master Chief only showed up as a secondary chatacter in a couple episodes or having just a single cameo
And instead, have the protagonist be a different character
If how they were planning to show to go how it did, I think that def would have been better
i watched halo season 1 and the last episode got me thinking. now when i go after the games we control cortana and cortana in turn controls the corpse of master chief! let that go through your head.
That's only possible with the Cortana in the silver timeline, the Cortana from the Halo canon wouldn't be able to do that
Is it true that they call a city.. reach city?
Yes
Lmao what a joke
Where? Reach city is new Alexandria but apparently they didn't do that. It's a planet! What you wanna call Manhattan? Earth city?
Miami is earth city too?
Look at the amount of countries in the world that use the same name for their capital, look at some US states
But again, why does it matter?
It's not important
They'd be better off making a movie recreation of ODST (the series isn't good)
the halo tv show is garbage just my opinion master chief had his helmet off all the time besides 2 episodes and cortana was the best part of the show tbh and i wish they just never continue it it was so bad i didnt enjoy it better to make a ODST tv show or something a long with halo
Orrr. You could just. Give me the names. Also doesn't matter, we have a city with a name and they didn't use it and not only that but they chose a lazy name rather than using their creative muscles. I mean it's not the first time they show laziness in this show
TV show is in a different timeline and the cities used in the show aren't necessarily the same as in the game. They could have used established names, buit it wasn't required and certainly isn't lazy
Luxumbourg, Mexico, Djibouti, Vatican, Panama, San Marino, there's more countries you can google if you're interested
As for US states, my memory eluded me, seems I was wrong there. Must be thinking of something else
But again, in the grand scheme of things, is this really that important? They named a city Reach City. Cool. Who cares
I meant a live action movie that reenacts the events of H3ODST
why did they take off chief's helmet? they must be baiting the fans, especially with all the netfilx adaptations going on.
Miss my favorite hate-watching show
With the trajectory they’ve set themselves upon this is probably gonna be more boring than bad
Which is good cos that means less hate watching
People saying “this show really sucks” makes people hate watch, people saying “this show is really boring” just makes people ignore it
I forced myself to watch the 1st ep when it was on YT.
Glad i dropped it right after after i had a gut feeling on how bad it was gonna end up being.
I kinda hope season 2 will do what season 1 didn't but I'm not keeping my hopes up
I wonder if the Halo movie can be just an adaptation of combat evolved
Yes
I would enjoy that
And not seeing master cheeks face for like every 5 seconds
I mean, it would be Locke(private) as the protagonist, and the MC would be the deutagonist of the movie. Probably 2.5 hours?
I mean, a seperate canon where we see Private Locke slowly get promoted to sergeant.
Anyway, the adaptation would be a 2.5 movie directed by Neil Blompkamp, and would follow a group of marines trying to survive with Master Chief on a Halo Ring.
And would you put that in canon or separate?
And the marines would be the emotional core of the story, with MC as the legs moving the story forward.
Seperate tbh.
Like it'll be like the first game, but with more characters and include Locke and Miranda
Personally I would chose halo first strike
Because it’s technically a sequel to the first game and explains how Johnson survived
Movies is a better medium for Halo?
Yeah
I guess
I would chose tv shows because you get to expand the to story
Yes even though is like 20-40 long but a couple episodes in it would be longer than movies
Nah, movies are more concise. Not everything needs to be a show
I'll just have it be a sci fi war movie
Yeah the halo tv show should also more in the action than just walking around.
Shows are episodic, or at least have their episodes stand out from each other
A movie would have a higher budget with a lower runtime
But I can tell what’s is computer generated and a person (episode 1)
Yeah, more practical like Aliens would be neat. With CGI only for Covenant (to show how alien they are)
Did the show have like 90 billion or something I idk
UNSC are practical, down to earth with props as guns, and then you have Covneant weapons which are CG. Would show some difference.
And also the ships themselves can be models with CG enhancements
I think for the elite’s and jackal’s are stunt actors and some weapons are actually props
Even covenant
The grunts, jackals, and brutes are mostly the same with their canon counterparts but the only change is the elites there armor looks like it came from the medieval times
The only elites that looks right are the honor guards
Pretty sure a 2.5 hour movie can be faithful to the game
Yeah I hope
Not everything needs to be a show idk
Like the halo 4 forward unto dawn movie is a prequel btw
But some characters will have a lower screen time idk
Well it mostly focus on cadet Lasky (Captain Lasky)
And one of my favorite character
It was about how be meet the Chief
Idk it is a promotion for halo 4
Well bye 🙂
That one I liked. It wasnt super awesome but chief felt like chief and going into halo 4 I felt like I knew lasky a bit compared to just a new character they say knows chief
Forward Unto Dawn
Yeah
Finally got round to watching the halo series and I really shouldn’t have, when I was a kid the halo 3, ODST and reach adverts and promos were miles better, 3/10
hi
initially I did not really like the series and it defo has it's problems (Episodes 7 and 8) but it has grown on me in the last few months
and i do have hopes that season 2 will be more EPIC
albeit i did expect the invasion of reach in the end of season 1
Why are we calling tv chief "Master Cheeks" (aside from blatant mockery)
He show them Master Cheeks
master cheeks........
ey man
i just started watching the series and joined this discord just to state this
but the series is mad cringe
so forced and feels like a b-list sci-fi series or even a c-list. I mean Olomos's Battlestar Galactica blows it out the water
Ur a little late to the party ngl
Shouldn’t Cortana be more purple? I wish they just sticked more the game lore or exact. Keeping master chief a mystery could’ve been a big thing mid series or end lol. Writers had no creativity with the franchise they were dealt. Wtf is the vetting process these days for shows? Star Wars was an extreme miss at first now hit and miss after the Disney take over. Rings of power, Vikings Valhalla and now this
So out of place with forced emotional attachment
They could’ve developed emotional attachment and character development though the vastness, dangers, of space and camaraderie amongst fellow man, marines, etc. it’s literally just another mass produced factory made network show with the halo name slapped on top of it
I agree
Theh based the majority of aesthetics off Infinite
Chiefs armour, Cortana etc
They did well in sticking to the lore as much as they could, but they're also trying to make money, so that's why so much was off, whether it was time line (my biggest issue with the series), appearances, story etc
They didn’t even play the games tho
Can’t really stick to anything if you don’t even know the source
They did
@Variety Headlines are fun, but here’s what I really said: To make the Halo TV series, we started from the game, and then we made the pilgrimage to 343 to study the entire canon, so that we could bring you the FULL Halo experience! #HaloTheSeries

It’s important to know that if they adapted the tv series and used the plot directly from the games it would still be bad
To directly adapt a video games plot into the form of a movie and especially an FPS game would be pretty hard
FPS games have different ways of story telling rather then a movie
If they were to directly adapt games like CE or Reach there would still have to be certain liberties taken in order to tell the story
They said in interviews the directors told the writers not to play the game
Yea I don’t think a direct adaption would work, but providing a spin upon the already existing story would’ve been good too
But anyways, if they wanted to do Reach for example
They could’ve done like their own unique characters during Reach
His tweet is in response to that article
So?
Hence why I said ask him if you want to query it further
Halo Canon once said that so many people have taken the “Not looked at the games” quote so far out of context to the point where it’s pretty much meaningless
So what does it mean then
It means that we should just stop pretending like the creators didn’t study
Given the shows quality I’m hesitant to give the benefit of the doubt
And even if they did play the games, they sure as hell didn’t do a good job adapting em
Either they didn’t play the games and did a bad job researching or they did play and did a bad job writing
You gotta remember these shows will have to take liberties for the sake of entertainment and for their budget
Well duh
You can make a unique story and still remain faithful
Arcane, Castlevania, Edgerunners
None just copy pasted from the game but still made a good show and remained faithful to the source
And even divorced entirely from the Halo property it’s just a generic sci-fi drama that’s wearing the skin of halo
And what about the books?
A lot of times books connected to games are used for adaptations to films or shows
Honestly I can’t speak for the books
But even then, considering the books over the games seems like quite the iffy choice
But even if this show is somehow magically faithful to the books, it isn’t even a good show
It’s just “watch this 7ft tall baby man run around going through every ‘manipulated soldier’ story ever and also commit treason. And also Kwan exists.”
this is where i disagree. They made it waterdown/mainstream to make it network/family friendly and for the kids.
But if they just made a great series, sticking to the lore with riveting plot points, character development that have to go to so much moral decisions/sacrifices in the frontiers of space and for the betterment/survival of mankind.
They could've gone so many directions with this. If its a good series kid will like it and it will make money. Look at GOT, the wire, sopranos, breaking bad, etc ,etc. It can be realistic for the adults and also have great examples of morals being that its about halo and the masterchief.
This was just literally slap halo on a factory made script. Theres no reason to change anyones gender, race, but that was the least of the problems.
That military, the politics, the whole essence of it was just so lazily written and just unrealistic.
It feels like every show these days are coming out of the same place with the same diluted, watered down writing and casting.
Vikings valhalla, Star wars sequels, rings of power, resident evil netflix, halo.
The list goes on and on. I literally feel no character attachment to anyone at this point. Its just horribly written, im just appalled how this even passed to get aired.
let's not kid ourselves
the show wasn't written well, it wasn't halo. it's very much possible to write a story that's halo inspired without making into the way they did.
chief without helmet, that's manageable.
but the entire plot was not good
Aesthetically? Only the Covenant and UNSC looked remotely Halo. The insurgents looked goofy.
Bro I couldn’t watch new halo show Im not even a halo fan and it looks horrible
Like no way it looked that bad for being 2022
if you want to watch a good screen adaptation for halo just watch forward unto dawn
Forward Unto Dawn was pog
Agreed
Where can you watch it
Paramount plus
Forward Unto Dawn is on YouTube
For free?
Oh, if you mean Forward unto Dawn - it's been on Netflix and Prime at some points, can buy it in the MSFT/Xbox store I'm sure. Should be available on the Google play / TV store as well
Dunno if it is still but when I found it it was free
Yea it still is
Just checked
Just finished watching
Me, a professional series reviewer can tell you that it sucks.
Ok
7.1/10 in IMDb and 61 of critic reviews on Metacritic
I've seen the series twice. Still don't understand the hate.
The show is ok
If we take it as the action show it's marketed as, it's ok, since the action is good
No, the show may have turned out okay if it didn't have Halo label and characters in it. But since it does, and yet does not appeal to Halo audience, nor is it written as good as source material was, it deserves all the hate it gets.
To put it simply: This show is NOT Halo.
People are angry because they knew the potential the series could have, they waited for 10 years and when it launched every single one of them was furious about how 343 in their typical fashion butchered the lore of Halo in it, making a pathetic excuse of it being Alternative Timeline.
It is pretty obvious that 343 as a whole does not understand Halo. The studio was born rotten from the very beginning, starting with questionable decisions, like trying to broaden their audience, completely ignoring the core fanbase of the franchise that still shows interest in Original Halo despite it's age, to making Frank O'Connor, the ex-community manager at Bungie, who thinks he knows lore of Halo, but has horrible misconceptions about it, on which he built upon new halo lore, the director of the franchise.
And even when 343 got what they wanted after catastrophic failures of BF2042 and COD:CW, they managed to lose their audience, by not making content. So, 343 not only disrespects the legacy that was passed to them by Bungie and Microsoft, but also extremely incompetent, given the fact that they got everything they wanted on a silver platter and yet they managed to lose what little they had.
The action is good
The amount of times you mention 343 is baffling knowing very well they develop games, not TV shows, why are you holding them accountable for a product they had bugger all involvement on?
the action is good yes, but for a supposedly action show only having like 3 scenes before the last 2 episodes is uh
Me too 🙂
Kiki Wolfkill was the one in charge of the show. She was transmedia director or something like that at 343.
"something like that", you definitely know your facts
Kiki Wolfkill (born July 7, 1969) is an American video game developer. Wolfkill grew up in Pennsylvania and studied journalism and art at the University of Washington, racing competitively on the side. At Microsoft, she transitioned from developing multimedia for Microsoft Encarta to working on art for Microsoft's video games, including the racing series Midtown Madness and Project Gotham Racing.
Joining Microsoft subsidiary 343 Industries in 2008, Wolfkill served as executive producer on Halo 4. Wolfkill oversees the Halo franchise transmedia at 343 Industries. In 2023 she reportedly left the position.[1]
Transmedia storytelling is the technique of telling a single story or story experience across multiple platforms and formats using current digital technologies.
I mean Kiki Wolfkill was one of the 343 execs that greenlit the show
So if the argument is whether 343 influenced the show then yeah because they allowed the script to get passed through
The show would have existed anyway if 343 still didn't greenlight it
Microsoft decides it ultimately, like Halo Wars which was made without Bungie's approval
She was the one overlooking it, anything that they were going to do had to go through her first, which means she saw the script, didn't bat an eye and approved it despite the fact, that show was contradicting games in various plot points.
“We didn’t look at the game. We didn’t talk about the game. We talked about the characters and the world"
- Steven Kane, the show runner of Halo TV Show.

What happens in TV Show clearly says otherwise.
-Remember that one scene in Halo where Master Chief butt naked slept with Covenant HUMAN prisoner while Cortana watched it happen?
-Do you remember that one book where Dr. Halsey took John from his family while he was a kid, like every other Spartan and DIDN'T tell them that they were kidnapped to become the saviors of Humanity?
-Guys, do you remember that Spartans are Programmed to be emotionless and that it wasn't a side-effect of their augmentations?
-Do you remember that Spartans were Emotionless Machines, not kids that only lacked sexual drive and were raised as soldiers from a young age?
-Oh yeah, I remember how Master Chief tried to kill Halsey and no one batted an eye. Bet in game if you kill Captain Keyes in the beginning of the game, there are no invincible Marines spawning to kill you as per Cortana's order of MC going rampant.
Kwan Ha- Covenant attacking Colonies and destroy planets with a little to no effort? Nah, I want to separate from UNSC because my father was a revolutionery and wasn't just killed in front of my eyes by a big angry dinosaur with two sets of jaws and a lightsaber.
You don't know if a show is gonna be good or bad from reading the script alone
It's just not a good series, and not a good representation of what Halo stands for and what it should be.
And that makes me sad because Halo has potential to make a great show, or movie. But when you bring in executives who want to change things to fit a broader audience perspective you'll bound to screw up.
But even if 343 didn't write the story, 343 doesn't understand Halo story telling. Infinite is the most recent example of this.
But ultimately, prepare for a word wall. I'm going to dismantle this entire show.
- The insurrection wasn't portrayed at all how they should be. Their aesthetic, their weapons and the key character Kwan Ha was overly underwhelming. The insurrection has zero time to be flushed out, due to the rushed pacing of the first episode.
- The Covenant isn't hard to write, but somehow they butchered the Covenant. It's not a cool plot twist to completely rewrite the functions of a genocidal alien race, but you know, they did.
- @stark arch Said everything needed to be said about how bad the Spartans were handled.
That's denial, Halo Infinite has some of the strongest writing in the series
It had some good ideas, but they were poorly realized.
-Oh, that's the sarcasm. He's funny, I like him.
No it's not sarcasm and it's offensive that you assume what other people say, and it actually goes against the rules of this very server
I was copying the Weapon
To contradict your statement regarding the writing of Halo Infinite.
Trying to find the right word.
It's hard when you are on the English lesson and texting at the same time.
You should pay attention to your lessons and log off social media for the time being, I'm pretty sure in every single institution it is considered a lack of respect to not pay your full attention to the tutor at the moment
None of those 2 things are an excuse in any way
I know
But it's kind of hard to obey the rules when you solved your tasks half an hour ago.
You really should stop making up excuses
I'm back
In what aspects? The only thing good about it is Gameplay. I didn't feel anything after completing Halo Infinite. Cortana is dead, but it doesn't make any impact, because she already died once. We didn't even see her death, couldn't do anything to stop it, there were no stakes, because everything was already done without our input as a player.
It also makes Halo 4 pointless, because Chief did not want to have a replacement AI, but now he does! And it's Cortana model no less!
-They'll pair you with another AI. Maybe even another Cortana model If Halsey let's them.
Bossfights were meh. They were just supercharged versions of regular enemies with a bunch of HP making them bullet sponges. They had no interesting mechanics, they weren't smarter than their brethren, they were just that. Bullet sponges.
When I completed it, I didn't think about how tragic it is. I didn't recall any moments or the OST that was playing parallel to some cutscenes. The only thing I felt was emptiness. My first thought after completing it was: "Wait. That's it?!"
That's your opinion
They really should have went for a bombastic Halo 2-esque story.
The Banished have no clear goal, the Endless came out of nowhere
I mean you'd think since it's Zeta Halo they'd do the flood, but nah they did the Endless 💀
The pilot is an alright character, but he doesn't really do anything 4 me.
The whole "weapon" plot was goofy as hell, they just wanted to back track the mistake of Halo 5 so they killed off Cortana off-screen and introduced a whole new "cortana"
If you really think the Banished have no clear goal that speaks a lot to your capacity of paying attention
What is the Banished goal on the ring? Tell me.
"Awaken the Harbinger" or whatever, but why?
No
Their goal is making Zeta Halo their new home since their planet was kinda destroyed
This made me laugh i appreciate it
Your argument was really entertaining lol
there are so many things i can say about the show 😔
Gotta go with @fresh mural on this one. Infinite has some very good writing
I think it's just very cliche
The Banished villains are killed off without any development whatsoever
part of the difficulty in gauging its quality as a campaign is its competitors.
Halo CE was a master at its time. but the level design was lacking by modern standards, even if you're not trying to update mechanics. overall though, story good. writing pretty good too.
Halo 2 was very good. a lot of people's favorites. judging strictly the writing, very intense.
Halo 3 changed the focus of the scope, and you can like that or dislike it, but the writing was still pretty good. Sergeant Johnson's death was a bit cliche, and frankly I feel like it was unnecessary, but whatever.
Halo 4's story was okay at best. by the end of the campaign, everyone is still who they were when you met them. except chief maybe?
Halo 5 story suffered assaults from within that no story would ever be able to withstand. it was terrible, but executive meddling halfway through the creation of the game will do that.
Halo infinite writing is better than one and three I think, or at least on par. Halo 4 and 5 suffered the most.
the writing in reach was highly character-centric but failed to deliver a lot of connection and impact with what was going on. either you already knew what was happening at reach, or the most jarring thing about that game was that you die at the end.
Halo 1 told us out the gate what the game was about.
Halo 2 did excellent jobs of demonstrating the threats.
Halo 3 . . . I can't for the life of me remember how they find the ark.
Halo 4, it takes a while to get to the problem of the story, and the problem is a kind of basic boring guy
Halo 5, they screwed up cortana's sacrifice for marketability, and the new guy was not a sympathetic protagonist.
Halo infinite, it does a very good job of showing us the threat right out the gate.
in terms of the quality of writing, not necessarily the story and whether or not the stories are enjoyable, or thematically appropriate for the Halo universe, Halo infinite is one of the stronger campaigns. it is possible to have excellent ideas that are poorly executed, in which case writing quality suffers, and it is possible to have boring ideas which are well presented, in which you're constantly waiting to see what happens but the game ends and you feel disappointed.
I think Halo infinite at its core is trying to return to the style of Halo 1. which is cool and all, but we heard that story.
Agreed
And REALLY they should completely reboot the series rather then completely remove the Cortana created thing
Like I hated the idea of the Created but, it's just such a goofy way of doing things.
Feels like a huge chunk of thr story is gone
w
when will season 2 be out? because i think there are high hopes with season 2
the stakes are higher after the last of us tv series
even the xbox head was saying that
i finally played halo 4 yesterday, i didnt play it earlier since its not from bungie, the game is fine, story and visuals are cool, especially visuals, but i dont like how the covenant looks and behaves now, and the game feels less like halo and more like some other shooter game... and the ending is anticlimatic, no sense of closure/ satisfaction unlike the Bungie Halo games
what piqued my interest is the Genesong or genes that the Librarian had put into humanity, which led to the creation of master chief and his hidden genes or whatever
i think thats what the show is going with now
the master chief and his girlfriend in the show both will have that Librarian's gift
thats why they can touch the artifacts and it produces that effect in the artifacts
no idea what the hippy girl from Madrigal will do though
maybe the Librarian could fix master chief to master cheeks again... thats my theory
they might meet her then she accelerates his gene transformation and heals him back to older master chief
then MAYBE i hope he becomes the master chief from the games
how about now?
woot
#weback?
oh we back

yay!
Ah heck, here we go again.
The series!
Uber_Panzerhund jumpscare
@pastel stump WE’RE SO BACK
WE ARE SO BACK
we are indeed so back
Y'all are so back.
Just finished watching Season 1 on YouTube (the entire season is available for free in it's own playlist separate from the one where you have to purchase a Paramount Plus subscription, but the tradeoff is you get ads. A small price to pay for salvation)
I am more hyped about season 2 as I have so many questions about things going forward based on the end of Season 1 and the trailer for Season 2
I am very excited for Season 2, really enjoyed the first season. Need to pull out the Blu Ray box set and watch it again :)

I am filled with anxiety and dread to what crazy, unnecessary, and indefensible "narrative choice" is made this season to "humanize" or "modernize" a character that needed neither
For reals. Who knows? Maybe they'll un-screw themselves with Season II.
Show is an abomination save some cool battle scenes and aesthetic accuracy
You don’t get it Chief must NEVER have his helmet on!
halo fans heaviest copium users around
Here’s my season 2 wishlist!
-Show gets canceled
Let's keep the discussion constructive please
If all you have to offer is "cancel the show", just don't bother
Season 2 retconning the entire first season sounds very constructive to the show's overall appeal
Still, I went back a reread some of the interviews done with the producers after the Season aired... it is still baffling how they defended some of the decisions made. Mind boggling.
To start the slate clean would serve as a good apology.
Not that anyone is listening to the feedback anyhow. With the first shot of the trailer being Chief without the helmet, they arguably did not.
I'm sure they had the second season ready to pitch as soon as the first released, part of the reason it got approved so quickly.
I sincerely doubt they will spend any screen time specifically trying to retcon things from S1.
IF anything, perhaps they just ignore/drop certain things and move forward.
IMO, they don't have to erase ANYTHING from S1 in order for S2 to be awesome.
Just make S2 awesome!
I expect at this stage though, it's all made anyway - so we just gotta wait and see.
Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. S2 can be perfect, but because it's attached to S1, it is weighed down and, most likely, sunk by S1's baggage.
The TV show is a sandwich. The bread is moldy and represents S1, but the food between the bread is good and can potentially represent S2. You can't take away the bread without not having a sandwich no more.
They literally made this Silver Timeline to start a brand new sandwich separate from the games.
And they started with moldy bread.
Halo Infinite, as a positive example, putting aside the beneficial foundations of the original trilogy of games, started off kinda of moldy (I enjoyed it nonetheless), but instead of trying to throw more food on the mold, 343 has been removing the mold first before adding food.
Halo Infinite benefits from being live service in that there is far more accountability. They do bad, less people play.
The TV Series just needs your view once.
And it is far easier for a game dev to fix their mistakes than a show writer to admit their writing is bad.
I've heard game devs apologize, I've heard Phil Spencer make public apologies for things he had little control over, but Hollywood just points fingers.
I do not share your opinion
I'm capable of enjoying individual TV show seasons, independent from the same show's other seasons.
It's quite liberating.
Bad is subjective - not everyone shares the same opinion that the TV show was bad, plenty of people enjoyed it. Same as some Halo campaigns - there are stories people like and ones people don't. We don't need recons because of this
I felt S1 had great visual effects, and stayed very true to what I thought Halo should look like.
The trailer seemed to show S2 will be as good in that department.
I am usually fully opposed to Retcons. I would never accept any attempt to retcon the games, even though that is functionally what Infinite did to Halo 5.
But S1, storywise, represented a fundamental misunderstanding of Halo. And while the showrunners may have changed, the executive producer is still Kiki Wolfkill. Based on her comments in interviews after the season aired, I have strong misgivings about the Halo story she wants to tell.
So strong that I think the only solution is to retcon Season 1.
They had "Chief" commit a war crime in the name of "Humanizing" him.
And sure, the skin of the show looks great, but I'm sure everyone has heard not to judge a book by it's cover.
Will we get some good action scenes? Based on the fact the new Showrunner wants a more gritty story, sure, we will. If those scenes were all we got, I'd be happy not as disappointed
But the Executive Producer... too much say, likely will ruin this season with some other outrageous thing
Just saw the Season 2 trailer. I'm so looking forward to it! February can't get here quickly enough!
wait how did infinite retcon halo 5? the cortana death?
The plot of Halo 5 was that the Created, lead by Cortana, were going to be the villains that Master Chief had to defeat to save the Galaxy, and that Locke would have a role in helping the Chief achieve that.
Instead, the Banished come out of no where and the Created are mentioned but not seen.
I see
It's a soft retcon, in that they aren't deleting what happened in Halo 5, but they are making it irrelevant
This is better suited for #halo-discussion now
Now, in regards to the show, I would prefer a hard retcon, but a soft retcon could bring some people back to the show
At this point if they drop Kwan's story but kept the Madrigal portal plotline that'd be cool. Kwan just felt like it was filler the entire time with no real ramifications for the story at large. I'd like to see Vannak and Rizz also remove their pellets (or perhaps they were damaged during the fight at the end of season 1 and no longer function 👀) so that Silver Team can all adjust together to living lives where they have to consciously put aside emotion in order to stay on-mission
That’s edgy
You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means
I watch it as a guilty pleasure and enjoy it while simultaneously hating it lmao.
Depends on the mood of the person interpreting the text. Everything is Edgy if you’re just sick and tired in the moment of seeing someone active in the discord.
Frankly I’m thinking I’m just going to call anyone and everyone that talks about Halo or even mentions the game as “edge lords”
is it canceled yet?
No, season 2 releases in February
Very glad to see a season 2. I will be getting Paramount Plus again to watch the season. Thank you.
Season II better make up for Season I in a lotta ways, otherwise it's just crap.
I doubt they'll do Halo right after the atrocity that is season 1
Don't you like John Halo Cheeks?
The first season for me was good for the first episode up until the first title sequence it was good to see the rebels pov but everything after that was abit disappointing they butchered john and the rebel’s daughter story make little to no impact on the rest of the plot
That said im still excited to see what season 2 has in store and if they make any changes to certain characters development
New poster just dropped 🔥
It’s crazy we’re going to see the fall of reach in live action now
We’ll maybe get to see Noble Honor Team :0
The battle for reach city is going to be
From the beginning, we know the end
Reach City, loaced in the country of Reach on the continent of Reach, surrounded by the Reach Ocean, on planet Reach 😎
wouldve liked it if the helmet was on but i can see why they didnt do that cuz they do have a actor for them to show
it looks amazing tho
Exactly right
no
I hope Season 2 is at least closer to the source material
It's following the Fall of Reach, so do you mean the game or the book?
If it’s a mix of both, it’ll be cool
It looks like it's gonna be a longer fight on the ground
Did anyone else catch the monitor appearance on episode seven of season one? it appears that Madrigal is a forerunner shield world!
Wait no I didn’t!
Talking with Kwans dad right?
put your helmet on bruh your in a combat zone
ffs
Only thing I liked about the halo series was Cortana
honestly i loved the halo series
hated it at first but it grew on me, now I'm excited for season 2
this is making up to be a really great show
can't wait for them to introduce the flood
I think it's a decent show, just not a great halo show.
I am curious for season 2
honestly i think they should've done something like the mandalorian
they have similar vibes in terms of character
i mean if they desperately want chief's helmet off it could be slightly obscured in shadow
Yeah, his helmet is off way too much
Honestly, it's never bothered me about him taking his helmet off
Pablo is a great actor, so I'm glad we get to see him
I don't mind seeing his face, they should just do it sparingly
Whenever I see something I don't agree with I just remember it's in a different universe
Still a lousy excuse for butchering what could've been a solid tv series
All those books and all that lore.. and that’s the series we get 🫡
You didn't read any book to say that :/
You stand corrected
what went wrong with the show
Taking off the helmet was 1 thing
But then to ya know…. 👩❤️👨
Was another lmao
a lot
The action scenes were pretty nice, but everything else seemed to lack much direction or thought
I couldn’t watch for much longer than 5ish episodes cuz then it got really boring and stale
Ye
The armour on the Spartans kind of looked like plastic
Idk they just didn’t have the metal vibe ig
Yeah that too
I’m not saying that at all
I’m saying they could’ve done better editing or something with the armour to make the material look more metal
Like forward unto dawn
ah yea I can see that
have you seen Adam savages video on the armor
taking off the helmet over and over again. The side story of this character that we didn't really need anything about and could've had more run time for the covenant. the stupidity of the UNSC. People doing dumb things to move the plot forward. if this show wasn't called halo like the star wars sequel trilogy wasn't called star wars. this show would've failed the moment it launched.
they really could've done so much with halo but they wrote.. this.
oh and "reach city" what a joke of a name lmao. they couldn't color in a plasma pistol and they cgi'ed chief assault rifle. this feels like one of those problems that directors love to do on their cgi teams which is "ah we'll fix it later" instead of carefully planning everything.
and the better idea was to reveal the prophet later instead of so soon. that first episode did so many.. too soon moments. like if they wanted chiefs helmet off. doing it at the final episode would've been a better pay off if executes better.
Is it ok for chief to take off his helmet in the games
only if there was a payoff
he hasn't done it yet so im wondering if they will ever reveal his entire face one day or leave it as it is. one of the issue I have with films now these days is the removal of helmets for the actors face like in the marvel movies.
the one thing thats great about a faceless character is a character that doesn't need to show their face to show emotion. you get that from infinite and other halo games
That was a nice movie
Indeed.
I rewatched that the other day man it's way too good for it's budget compared to the halo series budget I get a series will always have a higher budget but you get my point
No hate, but surely this show won't receive a season 3 and beyond, will it?
I hope it does
I would as well since even though I'm not a huge fan of the way it's handled in a ton of ways, I do watch it as a guilty pleasure and something to do 😂
Season two looks like it will be good to be fair. If enough people sign up to watch it, it might get renewed you never know
True S2 does look and seem to be a step up from S1 so hopefully it ends up being good 👍
I disagree
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Chad Halo series enjoyer
With all the other problems the show has, does it even matter if he takes his helmet off or not?
at this point, there's really no point in complaining
wha- why did they make this chat? what did they expect to find?
People talking about the show
Honestly, I like the story in a sense that it focuses more on the personal life of master chief. Thinking of it, he never takes off his helmet in the games because he is always on a mission, but you do see his eyes in halo 4 in the last video. I digress. The story about the girl, in my opinion, could have been written a little bit better. But my main issue is why they would make so many shots of people's rear ends. That to me does not make sense, like why have that when you could just have the people wear those pants, but overall, there are some parts of the master chief story that are weak or not as well written. However, my overall rating of the show so far is a 7. The fight scenes are great, but the girl's story is a little weak. Without spoiling anything and possibly getting in trouble, I will say that she is pretty stupid for not taking help when offered and thinking she can do anything however, she does smarten up a little bit later on. So as a final note, I want to say that the gore was a decent effect to add
Yes
The plot development is pretty decent too. The writers did do good with that
I just feel like he took it off way to much and the storytelling didn’t feel like master chief… like a helmet doesn’t change your personality and he is typically portrayed as a stoic and determined character with limited dialogue, which adds to his mysterious and enigmatic personality (which the show didn’t do at all) Also it’s not the actors fault, it’s the directors and writers. Forward unto dawn did a better job at portraying master chief’s character in the games and books. But I guess every movie/series these days is losing its touch 😔
True. He did take his helmet off a bit too much
But also, considering I saw Indiana Jones and transformers just a month ago, that series was 10x better in ever way. It may just be that. That one scene, though, in the cell with that woman was very weird. I had to skip that, but the personality changes is odd too. But it does focus on one thing for him. Being human
Fight scenes were servicable.
Probably the best we're gonna see on the screen until 343 hires SODAZ
Despite the blindness of the internet, quite a few people dont actively hate its existence
He’s supposed to be a super soldier not a human
not to dispute your claim, but did you play Halo 4’s campaign?
Yes?
Im aware he has feelings and emotions but that doesnt make him a human
Agreed
Ummm debatable
Also, the main underlying theme of halo was "who is a machine"
Master chief or Cortana
I finished halo infinte, what now?
I think the series could've worked if it focused on someone other than chief, they handled chief bad and there'd an obvious reason why they got people who don't have a love for the series and games to make the show but it could've been a good show just wasn't good for the master chief himself
They could have portrayed another spartan in the same way where it made more sense, because they don't seem to really know who our chief is
me when i need a weapon
It was made available for free on YouTube, but you might need to be in the US to watch it
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKfpV2bmlzODEaeD3suFKGf-RpniYWo5X
You need to, for obvious legal reason
Not necessarily, it can be made available in other regions, but I don't think it was with these
It was free on Amazon in december
@quaint plank bypassing regional restrictions isn't something that can be discussed here, they're generally in place for a reason and have varying legalities and contracts behind them
ok mb
i hope this season is better
Time to go catch up while I can
wdym by "could've worked"?
those aren't mutually exclusive
i actually love the Halo tv show and what they did with it
I'm excited for what's to come
I think they tried to turn master chief into someone he isn't, the series could've worked if it was the same type of character and plot but with someone other than chief so it makes sense
In my opinion the Halo 2 blur studios cutscenes were way better than the series and even costed less, it's not about the time or money it's about the love put into it, and the people who made the series are obviously not loving fans of halo, they are filmmakers, not halo producers
Season 1 of red vs blue has more love put into it, it's fun to watch, you don't get bored of it, and yet does red vs blue use insane graphics? No. I'm not saying that amazing graphics were needed if that's what im mistaken for, I'm saying that I'd want someone with a love for Halo to make Halo content, and that's kind of an issue we've had with 343 for a while but mcc and infinite updates sorta show love
I think that's just a general symptom of the entertainment industry. You have corporate dictating what they think will sell and forcing those in charge of actual storywriting into these pigeonholes. That's why we had the strikes from actors and screenwriters
I kinda have this thought in the back of my mind of the possibility of all of silver team but Chief gets killed off
I’m not saying that is in like I hate them or whatever but kinda taking inspiration from what unfortunately happened in H:R
Remember: separate timeline
Yeah that too needs to be taken in account- anything is in the air really
We have to unplug ourselves from the matrix and forget what we know
Or rehires the guy who did the Osiris intro.
Allegedly that was one dude doing the majority of the animation in that.
Agreed
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case
God, I'm so annoyed at how convos about that scene devolve into hating "Avengers" despite it coming out way too early for it to be directly inspired by Avengers fight scenes.
Or pretending that Avengers has bad fight scenes
My main issue was how Vales SMG killed Soldiers so easily
What ammo was she loading, that thing was trash in the campaign
It's not that bad, but I'm also realizing that you like
never see the SMG in 5's campaign, compared to other guns
It's Vale like 90% of the time
Yeah. And I always made her drop it for something else so
this still didn't answer my question. "could've worked"?
343 seems to me to love halo.
343 is not paramount
you say that like 343 doesn’t work with paramount on this heavily
Person I'm replying to:
"I'm saying that I'd want someone with a love for Halo to make Halo content, and that's kind of an issue we've had with 343"
"someone with a love...343"
me: "343 seems to me to love halo"
Nobody said 343 was Paramount. We are on a completely different subject of conversation.
okay credit where it's due, this trailer does look better than the first season
Trailer actually looked good??????
My contribution to Halo TV Show news.
Why do you keep debating on whose idea the show was?
Are you that desperate to point your fingers at the "culprit" or what?
Honestly still the worst excuse I've heard
The worst decision made
From which all bad decision have been made ever since.
Uhm, no
Making the show happen in a different timeline was the best decision they made
Unless you'd like the story as presented to be canon
(And no, they're not gonna waste their chance with a show by just retelling what happens in the games. For the story of the games you have the games)
The story presented in canon is far better, but besides that, I want more built onto the canon story, or simply transferring stories from the books to the big screen.
Even then, is so much story to be told from canon during the Human Covenant War. 3 decades of it, all of it untold that they could have covered.
Instead they opted for a worse re-creation. It doesn't build on what we have, instead it insults it.
What story is better is entirely one's opinion
Why can't fans catch a break? Why can't we see the Keyes Loop on the big screen, or Cole's Last Stand, the space Battle of Reach, all as told in canon, on the big screen?
And you're wrong, it's not a recreation, it's an adaptation
Sure, use whichever word you like
Doesn't change what it is
Getting more stretch out of the word 'fans' than stretch armstrong's powers.
The show is unnecessarily divisive, all stemming from their decision to make it separate.
I think that’s more telling on the “fans” than it is the show runners
I mean, dear lord, the sheer amount of vitriol I saw directed at 343/paramount during the first season’s airing
If this show was canon, we would never have that one scene between covenant lady and Chief.
The fact I can't describe said scene without the mod bot interfering shows how wrong it was to have it exist.
And the way people in charge tried to defend it? Sickening.
After that scene, all the vitriol was justified. They turned a hero into a mentally incompetent war criminal and offender.
You don't know that
I do, because there were no Humans in the Covenant in canon.
And for starters, if the show was canon fans would complain either way from the premise that Master Chief wouldn't be voiced by Steve Downes
Nothing stops them from having one in a different timeline, and the show offered a reasonable justification for it
A minor complaint compared to some of the massive issues of the show
Minor or major they are still complaints
And? My point was it wouldn't happen in canon. That point still stands.
Yes, that is the entire point of making a different canon, to make things that can't happen in canon
You are trying to deflect just criticism by throwing up unjust criticisms. Stop.
A horrible decision
They made very clear that they do not want to retell a story that already happened in the canon, and with the Master Chief here, if the show was canon they would have had to make it around a story that already exists, which makes the show redundant when the source material is there for that
Think. If they didn't happen in canon, perhaps there was a good reason for that?
Like Chief committing a war crime.
Your "criticisms" are opinions
The Chief did commit war crimes in canon
Not of the kind that put you on a list and monitored the rest of your life.
He is monitored for life in canon
His helmet has a camera and he is obliged to show the footage to the UNSC after every mission for God's sake
You see the crack in your premise right? You're asking for my opinion, and that would be subjective, not objective
the kind of vitriol I saw was never justified
people were saying that whoever made the show should have been fired and much, much worse
Deflection. Was that scene objectively acceptable?
By any measure?
If you had a problem with the premise of making a separate canon you shouldn't have even bothered watching the show
Yes
you literally cannot measure this with an objective lense
TV shows need a thing called plot and pacing, that scene added to both
Yes, it can. But if you don't think so, what did you think of that scene then?
Plot and pacing could have been achieved without that scene. Clothes never needed to be removed. It could have stayed full PG and remained just as impactful on the plot.
Honestly, the most entertainment I got out of that scene was fans blowing several consecutive gaskets over it.
Otherwise, I don't think it really does much for or against the show. Wasn't really needed, doesn't really hurt much worth stressing over as is.
What you specifically expect and want from a show becomes pointless when you remember they made the show for millions of spectators, not just you
What I also find hilarious is that fans very frequently forget this specific fact. My only irritation is that now people get that and use Halo as the only major example, when it's been the case for literal decades. I expected discontinuity with the main story when the Neil Blompkamp movie was a thing, and honestly, the leaked plot for that was actually bad.
Even if you accept the premise that a romantic liaison between Makee and Pablo are required, they are far better ways to achieve such connections without going to the extreme, war crime path.
This fandom has a bad case of entitlement
Oh, preaching to the choir, sister, preaching to the choir.
This is like watching a movie from the MCU and expect all the characters to stay completely true to their comic book counterparts as well as the stories to be the same
I like to use the Doom movies as an example tbh
Or the World War Z movie, or the Resident Evil movies
why did you have to make a point of saying “pablo” instead of John or the MC?
The Doom movies? Didn't people hate those too?
As for the MCU, most of the characters stay mostly true to who they are.
The point isn't that people hate them. It's the fact that they're different, because you can't skin a cat the same way you skin a cow.
For starters, Iron Man, the fan favorite, does not
And the people who skin a cow aren't going to listen to the catskinner's advice.
Sometimes, the cat shouldn't be skinned at all
Cool, but the cow does.
Who actually wants to be a writer or director and be tasked to just rehash the same thing that already happened in another media?
The people who made this show didn't
That is their own sense of entitlement then.
So when you're sitting there, enjoying your decently grilled beef steak, it pays to remember you aren't eating a greasy, gamey cat flank, but instead a ribeye. Maybe not a great one, but it wasn't meant to be the cat meat.
Entitlement happens when you have no agency or control over the product. They did have it
What's funny to me is that you're kind of damned if you do, damned if you don't with a lot of media.
Of course, this is not convenient to remember when delivering criticism.
No, it can happen even if they have control of it.
It's like the fans who criticize Halo 4's art style not for being bad, but for being different
Because it would be so great for the new artists to make old creations again
Why change what works? What is effective? Why change history and tradition for something lesser?
Not everything you think that works does
But plenty does. The success of the games is why a TV show was ever considered in the first place
And I'm sure you will complain about the fall of Reach when it happens in season 2 as well despite that event being something that also happened in canon lore
Now there, there we can debate if it was made better or worse, but only because that IS a rehash of an even that already happened before
I will gladly discuss the Fall of Reach, as displayed by the Second Season (I won't watch the full show, but battle scenes, sure).
I am sure many people will enjoy just those events alone
But my problem still lies with the package
You do know that's a very poor way of making criticism right, that's the same as watching the first 30 minutes of a movie and then drop it
Now I'm questioning if you even finished season 1
Anything connected to that scene with Makee, is tainted
I watched the first 5 episodes in the entirety. I was done with it by the 3rd, but only stayed for the Battle in 5.
The battle was good, given the context
Then you have no business criticizing the show as whole
Seriously, no business
Okay, if you think a man taking advantage of a imprisoned woman is okay, then you don't either
Sound fair?
I am not stuck in a single scene, unlike you
I gave the show a fair run, but it was an immeasurable disappointment. I wasn't, and still won't, give money to something so terrible
And I find it quite baffling that you are trying to create a moral compass around a setting with aliens
It wasn't even between a Human and an Alien. It was two Humans.
Exactly, making your point all the more bizarre
And just how much did we see of the aliens anyhow?
And I don't know which show you watched, in the one I watched both characters liked each other willingly
It was 75% humans
Oh wow really? A live action production with a finite budget showcases humans primarly and not aliens?
Jesus wow I can't believe it, gotta inform that to Star Wars and Star Trek
Oof, no, a prisoner cannot give consent because they are in an inferior position. There are psychological factors at play.
Their position does not affect their emotions
Star Wars and Star Trek are far more established in the realm of Human on Human Conflict.
Name a Halo FPS where you are fighting Humans?
It can. I will happily discuss the details of the Laws of War and Consent and Human psychology to explain everything wrong with that scene, if you wish.
hello 😄
So you start off complaining about the show being different to the canon lore, and now you are conveniently ignoring Insurrectionists and human conflicts in canon lore in favor of focusing solely on the games just to make a stupid point across? Do you realize how idiotic that is?
No you don't realize it
You are ignoring the point of my statement.
Yes, Humanity fought a conflict against Insurrectionists for almost 3 decades too.
But when one thinks Halo, in the most simple terms.
Big green man shoots alien.
The Insurrection is so seldom touched upon in any of the media, for better or worse.
But a major criticism of the show is the lack of Human vs Covenant conflict.
And we should only make the common spectator reduce a 2-decade old franchise that spans a lore of 10,000 years reduce their scope to the most basic conflict based on the original premise of a game from 2001?
This is starting to get too heated. Both of you stop now, or I’ll be throwing out mutes.
Wdym? This has been quite civil, I've seen some really bad ones elsewhere.
I don't think you realize how stubborn you have been throughout all of this
Minecraft is making some very good points about the Insurrection conflict
I’m not going to argue. Both of you stop now
No, it has a bad case of expecting a good product.
Reminder not to continue that conversation
move on to a new topic
that scene doesn’t need to be discussed right now
you can talk about other aspects of the show
lets talk about breaking bad
Baking bread
I’m gonna watch this new season when it streams next month. Idc how underrated this could get so don’t judge me.
#HaloTheSeries returns Feb. 8, exclusively on Paramount+. Stream two episodes at premiere and a new episode every Thursday through March 21st.
Master Chief John-117 leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. As humanity’s best hope for winning the war, John-117 discovers his deep connection to a mysterious...
Finally got round to watching this and oh my word it looks so good!
No sight of Kwan. Ig her arc was completed last season?
I hope not, I'd like to see her return
How much faith you have in season 2?
A lot, I think it's going to be awesome. I really enjoyed S1, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing more
I wish I could unsee season 1
You are, unfortunatly, alone in that.
False
It's not only the writing, but the production is bad as well. You're telling me Paramount can't afford to invest in making sure the spartan armor (arguably the most iconic part of the halo franchise) looks good? Or that Cortana actually looks like a hologram instead of a cartoon? I mean Star Wars did it in the 1970s. I mean come on have some standards. Halo fans have no obligation to shill for such a mishandled show. I could understand if it WASN'T Halo but rather a new franchise inspired by it. But as far as I'm concerned the show is a stain on the Halo name.
There were some good looking scenes at least. The coming out of slipspace condor shot, the gore and some other scenes did look cool
And if they're gonna do a story centered around Kwan and the insurrectionists. Have some balls and write in the communist philosophy behind it.
imma say this but idm the show being loyal to the games lore completely, i thought season 1 was okay.
also masterchief DOES take off his helmet, he's done it multiple times throughout the game, we just don't know how he looks...until now.
literally halo 4's ending had him strip his armour lmfao
I say if you want to do the Insurrectionist whatever, admit to it, not use it to pad run time and hide it behind "ah Aliens and Chief fight"
Literally never heard anyone before saying the Spartan armors look bad in the show
They didn't even exist before Halo Reach, and that game was made 9 years after the book
I think if your doing a season about the fall of reach it should at least have major influence from the book and Halo: Reach
That’s why I think the season should have noble team from the game
I think it should draw similarities with the book, but this show does happen in a different canon, so the circumstances might be different
Yeah
Since master chief has Cortana before reach falls maybe noble 6 can survive in the silver universe
Echo chamber
What's wrong with making a film based on the first game?
Bold of you to assume they care about canon enough to have Noble Team. They couldn't even be bothered to come up with a city name beyond "Reach City"
It was a single piece of text and they couldn't be bothered.
They can't even get the little things right, let alone the big things.
Reach City is canon to mainline halo btw
He already had her before Reach fell. The game caused a discontinuity with the Cortana side plot.
As some weird 'fragment' deal.
Redundancy
It's part of why people hated Reach's story when it came out.
God, the peak irony of using Noble Team for this argument.
I can taste it, it's in the air.
Yeah like
Noble Team wasn't officially canon until Halo Infinite
You mean Halo Reach?
No, Halo Infinite
?
Well it can't be 100% accurate of course. Some parts of the game's plot has to be changed to accomodate the film medium. Not to mention more characters and the fact its in live action.
Don't sabotage what I'm saying with... Whatever it is you're saying.
It's a good solution but that might aliniate diehard fans of the game
Noble Team caused a hell of a continuity snarl by existing in the first place on Reach, because Halo Reach itself caused a massive continuity snarl. So it's extremely ironic to claim the show doesn't care about canon using Noble Team's lack of presence as the proof, because they're the biggest example of a 'barely caring about canon' thing to exist on Reach.
huh, how so? I mean it'll stick pretty close to the material as much as possible while maintaining the runtime and be pragmatic.
I'd be more irritated at how lazy the idea was.
Oh boy. Another Hollywood rehash of the same damn plot. I totally don't complain enough about games and movies doing this already.
Because if fans get irritated at the remaster for "ruining the ambience of the original game" when that was only a graphical change, now imagine a retelling that adds new characters and scenes
But don't fans complain when the show gets too different?
They complain basically about everything
Not even saying the movie must be a 2.5 hour gopro footage of master chief shooting covenant soldiers.
Honestly, I wish the Neil Blompkamp version of the Halo movie came out.
Then maybe we'd have media to target that dates back to Bungie's heyday.
Well, his style does fit Halo actually.
Yeah, I feel like the whole 'flood brother' plotline idea was really slept on.
Really a brilliant plot concept.
What if it really stuck to the first game's plot, but with one of the soldiers as protagonist and master chief is the deutagonist.
Considering my issue is "first game's plot", it doesn't matter.
What about that scrapped Halo game about a marine getting a Forerunner weapon and slowly transforming into a Promethean
If you did The Floods plot, and added some more details, you could do CE’s plot for a season of a tv show
Oh god, I always gave my marines Incineration cannons
Must it be a series though? A movie can do that
Different plot reqs for different scenarios.
It would be pretty convoluted if you wanted a close interpretation of CE’s plot as a movie.
Yeah only way I see Halo's stories working is in TV format.
The only story I feel can be well summarized in a 2 hour movie is the first act of First Strike
Part 1 and part 2 would work better, like villager said
Honestly not a bad idea
That's your cool idea, instead of retelling Halo CE, adapt the aftermatch of Halo CE into live action
Then it can be both canon and free from tampering with the games
First strike?
Yeah
Without fall of reach, it’d be missing some stuff
Why though? With good pacing and writing you can fit CE’s plot to 2.5 hours
Uh, source?
At least the first part when the Chief has to avoid the cruiser, rescue the survivors and take control of the cruiser to go back to Reach
Because a story shown in a book is less mainstream than one told in a game
Look they could do the CE plot, just not from Chief’s perspective.
You can tell halo CE’s story in 2.5 hours, but do you want 2.5 hours of CE’s story? How much action do you want? How much setup do you want for the next movie, if any? Do you want to include the Alpha base subplot? Or do you want Chief to bumble around across the ring pressing buttons? (Halo 4 reference!)
Yeah, can do one from a soldiers perspective
I think they already did the CE plot from a different perspective
Fireteam Raven
Start with the Fall of Reach from a Marine perspective, fall said Marine all the way to the Rings, and then, last episode, switch to Chief and then the next season is First Strike from Chief's perspective.
Or multi perspective First Strike
Although I'm not into the idea, making a movie of CE is an ideal starting point because of something to take into consideration
Wasn't Raven exclusively an arcade system?
Surely can put balance between story and action. Surely there’ll be more dialogue than the game
Considering how much shoot no questions asked is in CE, it’d be better to go off The Flood.
How about a twist; Halo CE, but also have Thel's perspective.
The story of CE is self contained, it can be open to sequels, but it is conclusive by itself
Before you knew Halo 2 would be a thing, the Covenant had lost their precious weapon and the Flood was seemingly dealt with
Making a movie of CE is ideal because it leaves the window open for a sequel, but at the same time ensures an all rounded story in case the movie fails at the box office and doesn't get a sequel approved
If you want a sequel, definitely.
That was unintentional
Toilet paper emoji does not reflect my feelings on that comment
It can be like black hawk down in terms of action
I would definitely leave Thel' Vadam's perspective for a sequel
The first movie is the introduction for the general public, if you want to humanize the evil aliens and show a more heroic side of them first show the side that proves they are a threat
Yeah, but they didn't even do much of that in Season 1 so.
It always makes me cringe, very heavily, whenever someone suggests anything like this.
It's like people who say we should have a Halo show be like band of brothers or the pacific.
I actually don't think the Arbiter is gonna become a good guy in the TV show
At least not for now
They already did that plot line with Makee.
How so?
I view it as cheapening the source material for the movie, which is usually done in a more respectful bent and played up more for emphasis than feel-good violence.
In other words, I think it is massively disrespectful to the survivors of the engagements in question to utilize those as examples for fictional stories when better examples exist in the fictional pool of examples.
Feature length Landfall, Deliver Hope, We are ODST.
I think it would be kinda cool if instead Atriox became the good guy while Arbiter stayed as villain
Given that Atriox was written to be more like Tartarus in the show, and Tartarus is a rival to Thel' in the games, the show would make a cool parallel with the lore by making a mirrored version of the change of allegiances
Maybe the arbiter would end up in the movie as a secondary antagonist
I really don't see them doing that. With the severe lack of Aliens in Season 1, I doubt any actual Covenant figures will be anything more than one note villains or punching bags.
A lot of the Human characters were one note too
Give them a break, this show has less budget than a modern Star Wars movie
But youtubers told me Microsoft has unlimited money.
And is heavily invested in Halo as a multimedia property.
So did Forward Unto Dawn. Passion can go a long way with little budget
It also reused props they had from the old reach commercials.
Kelly's helmet is literally Kat's old helmet with an FJ/PARA knee guard slapped on the mouth.
Dollar for dollar, they made the most of it
But not everything is about the spectacle
The writing is important
As for Microsoft's support for Halo, it's waned
If that wasn't made clear by their purchase of ABK
That is not really the case
They will proudly help announcing Halo 7 when it gets made
Buying Bethesda didn't affect Infinite's marketing or anything
Halo has to succeed on its own merits. They made the Mark IV armor something you have to buy on the Infinite store for a reason, despite outrage
Because the game is free to play
And fans on the other hand, seem more focused on complaining at the priced nostalgia tool than appreciate the fact Master Chief's new armor can be unlocked by reaching the max rank, ergo, for free
I just want them to add an ONI Emblem.
Every company uses nostalgia to sell things, so this is not new or unprecedented
I settled for the Key Chain but still
Idk, I don't believe 343 is really playing their cards as well as they could because of a lack of resources
They only started hiring again recently
There is much more to it than resources
Sure people may think Microsoft is not helping them anymore, but just ask: if not Microsoft, then who is funding every new season the game gets?
Buying the Battle Pass
Store purchases
Book sales
I doubt 343 is seeing any money from the TV series
If anyone would be getting money from the TV show that would be Paramount
You know, the producer
Microsoft is still paying salary of course, but there was a hiring freeze for a reason
I have zero respect for Paramount, or much of Hollywood in general. But that's a whole other discussion.
Why tho? Sony Pictures and Illumination are much worse
I mean , with a movie means less screentime and higher budget. Better vfx
Let alone Warner Bros
Hollywood is full of elitism.
Fox could’ve produced this movie.
Fox kinda doesn't exist anymore
What remains of them is 20th Century Studios, property of Disney
Ain't no way you'll trust your IP to Disney
I haven't seen any Hollywood product that has come out in a while that was made for the story, not the political beliefs of the director, or the egos of the writers, or the fame of the actors, etc.
Top Gun 2
Definitely the fame of the actor.
It was good, but definitely the fame of the actor.
Produced by Paramount btw
"Produced" but Tom Cruise had all the power in that film's production.
Who had the power for the Halo TV Show?
Navy propaganda.
A lot of people really
Definitely wasn't Joseph Staten.
What about universal?
You could blame it all on Paramount or 343
But...
Halo Wars 1 was made without Bungie's approval because Microsoft had the final word on it
So even if 343 had refused to help and Paramount had turned the offer down, it wouldn't have stopped Microsoft from just looking for another producer
I've read the interviews of several of those people, such a Kiki Wolfkill. I was very disappointed in the opinions they expressed.
But seriously though what if Fox is not owned by Disney?
please for love of god fix the matchmaking in halo infinite i cant with this anymore i cry everyday
Well
Wrong chat
its a joke
Don't care
The last films Fox produced before getting acquired by Disney were X-men Dark Phoenix, The New Mutants, Alien Covenant and Misbehaviour
All of them, disappointments
The folks who made Halo Wars 1 were quite humble and respectful. Never had issue with them.
Paramount... Paramount has been around too long.
I mean granted, the choices out there aren't much better
But, the showrunners I don't see as humble
They are, for a lack of a more apt description, full of themselves
Yeah, after being forced to cancel one of the games they wanted to make and reporpouse their original game to be a Halo product, and then develop the game prohibited from using the Master Chief, be in any way connected to Halo 3, and under the announcement that the studio would be shut down after finishing the game
Bungie got spiteful, as seen with Halo Reach.
Not saying it's right or wrong, but that's what Bungie did
But Bungie wasn't self destructive. They went after Microsoft, not their fans or their games
Regardless if Ensemble Studios was humble and respectful on the franchise or not, they were forced to make the game and then terminated
That's not even on Bungie, that's on Microsoft
Though Bungie wasn't that much better
They created a whole new Spartan 2 for the crossover in Dead or Alive 4 just because they didn't want another studio to use the Master Chief
Frankly I am less familiar with that, and am not fully aware of Bungie's actions towards Halo Wars
Eh, that's fine
Yeah, just one year after Halo 2, the game that has a song named "The last Spartan"
Let's keep this chat about the Halo TV Series, please 🙂
Panda, question

What company you want to produce then?
Is there a way to suggest merchandise 343 should sell, or emblems to be put into Infinite?
I wanted ONI memorabilia, like the ONI pin Ackerson has in the promotional photos, or an ONI emblem in Infinite, yet... there isn't anything.
I don't care what company produces it, I just want people who are producing it to not be the stereotypical Hollywood elite.
That sounds like something you should tweet to @HaloGear
I will agree with you on that
The channel in the discord or on Twitter?
Tweeter aka X
Any producer, actor, director or participant in an adaptation who publicly admits to not have watched/played/read the source material is an insult to the fans of that material and should be fired from the project
Don't have it I prefer not using that as oppose to discord
Is there any studio that dosent have those?
The folks who made the Mario Movie
You want illumination to make halo then?
That is basically what I felt when Sam Raimi admitted to not having watched Wandavision and still going to direct Doctor Strange 2
Should have either immediately gone to watch it or forfeit from the project
If they'll play the games first, yeah
Uhhhm no please
There definitely is elitism at Illumination
And...
The Mario movie was underwhelming
Look, I don't care which studio makes it. I want names of people, not studios.
I don't trust Kiki Wolfkill, but I would trust Joseph Staten, for example.
Honestly, good artists can be found anywhere. I think for universal studios they can do it however.
For writers and directors, idk.
As long as the people involved care about the project and give it their all yeah, whoever makes it is ok
I don't pay enough attention because they aren't worth my time, except reading the interviews for the Halo Showrunners.... but that just feeds my anger...
Netflix's One Piece worked because everyone involved had passion for the source material and they all consulted it
Like, let's take Henry Calvin... or is it Calvill?
The Superman actor
He is super passionate about 40k
Henry Cavill
I would definitely trust him in making a faithful 40k film because I know he is passionate about 40k
Didn't he leave The Witcher show tho
(And he was the protagonist)
40k film or no 40k film, he is still a 40k fan.
The Showrunners of Halo TV? I doubt they care about Halo in so far as how good it looks on their resumes
I think so? I'm not too in the know there.
Not a Witcher fan, not in the know on that
If I can't sit down with the person and talk Halo with them, they shouldn't have any creative direction with the show.
Only season 2 will tell
David Wiener is the showrunner
If I can't ask him which game is his favorite, the Season is a write off
What if private locke was the protag in the movie?
private?
Tell you what. If Kelly, Linda, Parisa, Ellie Bloom, and Katrina all appear in front of John at the same time in the show, I'll watch it, just for the meme value in that alone.
As in since its based on CE, the movie can start with him young and as a corporal. And throughout the movies we see him get promoted to sergeant. And he'll be the one who is inspired by Master chief.
Locke is ONI
He would have some sort of Navy rank
I take that back though, because the TV Show ONI is not militarized enough.
That's my personal gripe though. ONI should be in the same uniforms as their Navy compatriots
Just saying that with the movie's own Halo 5, that'll give weight to the fight between Locke and master chief. Since they fought together in this version
Halo 5 has a film for it already, Nightfall
None of that is connected to the show in anyway
Nightfall was bad, but I rather only have that than... whatever Paramount made.
Like ONI being ONI, boldly showing their insignias in UEG Space... that was cool, I enjoyed that.
Doesn't even make sense to make a show about Halo when it completely changed all personalities of characters from the games. They literally slapped an entirely different plot on the basis of aliens and super humans. Take the same plot, put it on a differently named show, everyone is happy.
It's a disgrace to the fans and reflects poorly on the people who play the games. The show is literally embarrassing to be associated with.
Locke was never in the UNSC Army or Marines. And Locke's fight against Chief in the first place was never all that personal.
He left because they didn't follow the lore/books and basically ruined the story. They legit wanted him to crack jokes when ||his horse died, that's not Geralt...|| He wasn't even the main character. Him and Joey Batey were the only good part and they ruined his character in season 3. I'm glad Henry left that sinking ship.
I trust Henry being the producer and star of 40K will at least stick as close to the lore/feel of Warhammer that the budget will allow.
Blood for the Blood God
OK, let's try and keep things a bit more constructive moving forward.
Constructive criticism is fine, but things like calling people lazy or saying they have no passion for what they're doing is not going to be tolerated. You cannot speak to the passion someone puts into a project , not is it fair to throw blame on one person.
Let's keep it civil, thank you
Will the show have noble team
That's what I am wondering if Noble team will be seen I get this is a halo show with mostly the master chief but I would love to at least see even a mention or glimpse of the Noble team!
Though the show is slightly confusing I don't know if they are truly basing it off the game or lore or just going on what they want to do? And I apologize if there is something I am misunderstanding with this tv series. But I just know not to compare the series with the game or lore since it's loosely based on it if that is the right word to use if not I can't think of a better kinder word to use. No good with words lol.
But I am interested in watching this next season though it is unfortunate some of the stuff they have done to it like armour less master chief/ John fighting in one of the cut scenes in the trailer!
The TV show runs on its own timeline called the Silver timeline - it uses characters, environments, objects and themes from the stablished lore (games, books, other media), but is telling its own story separate from main canon. Try not to look at it as "X character never did this in the games or books" and go more towards "In another universe, this is what this character did"
Ah okay thank you! That does make sense!
"In another universe, there are no true spartans worthy of this name"
Honestly, "Spartan" is such a laconophilic term anyways. Halo just beat those Moron Lobe guys to the punch.
So yeah, most Spartans are better than that term.
Spartan wasnt even the first term Halsey thought of, theres like, 10 others.
Laconians was actually in the running alongside Olympians and Thermopylites right?
Let me check her journal.
Which is literally on my shelf, to the right of my pc
Promethean was also in the running funnily enough
wow, ok... might as well have banned me.
There was no need to dip in with a comment like that. Not anything to ban anyone over, but keep it constructive going forward please
Sure, whatever you say...
hehe (constructive conversation about a topic like this is not really warranted but sure)
It is warranted
Mmhmm.
I bet the 5-10 people talking about this series in a good light on Twitter really love what you're saying right now lol
You can be negative while still being constructive, being constructive doesn't mean only being positive
Not gonna lie, kinda loving this
Please don't ping on replies, thank you
😂
I know this is a bit off-topic but, how well do you fit the typical "Discord mod" stereotype?
You're right, it's offtopic for here
Wow, you really are a textbook mod. Good to know.
So, question: if I can't ping a mod by name, do I just ping the role you're in?
For server moderation concerns, please send a direct message to @weary rune.
It's pretty difficult to have constructive critics without spoilers, because the main critics are about the plot, not the pretty pictures.
But for some reason I cannot write in the spoiler chat. Is there something I need to do ?
I believe we’re keeping that locked until the show begins
So let’s keep channel spoiler free until then 🙂
So we have no way to talk about the first season ?
You can talk about the first season. It’s available to watch for all
And it's been out for almost a year so if it's a spoiler for someone then they haven't been paying attention or intentionally ignored things until now. If you must say something that sounds like a spoiler you can mark your post with spoiler marks though again it would be a reasonable assumption that anyone reading this channel already knows what's going on/what happened in the show in Season 1
the halo show.... why, 343? why?
343 and Microsoft probably thought that it would bring more people to the franchise, and maybe they asked to create a story that would talk to "a larger audience" than just the fans and gamers.
Paramount's writers wanted to make their own story instead of making a faithful adaptation (which would still have been the best choice), because they have the pretension to create a better story than the games and books.
The studio wanted to make it in live-action for some reason, despite the fact that it would mean using a lot of CGI for all the aliens (which is why we got the Makee character to make a cheaper Arbiter), while it would have been better to make it fully-3D like a modern Clone Wars, or in a more artistic format like Arcane.
And on top of all of that, Pablo wanted to show his face as much as possible.
At this rate, I think it would’ve been better if they had a stunt man in the armor and let Steve do the voice work
But at the same time, I wouldn’t want him to be involved in this garbage TV show
It's fine to be critical but calling things "garbage" isn't helpful or constructive
343 talked about the reasons for taking the show in the direction they did, if memory serves correctly it's in this article:
https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/silver-debrief-a-new-beginning
Adaptation always brings a set of changes because you cannot describe actions in a book the same way you would do in movie. And the strategy to create some sort of surprises even for the Halo loremasters of the fan community is some good strategy... unless those surprises include some deep destruction of the core canon, like Makee.
"The Silver Timeline is a unique vision of the Halo universe that contains and embraces many key elements of the core canon that has spanned the last two decades, but with relevant contextual and narrative details that diverge in ways appropriate (and necessary) to the storytelling opportunities presented by the TV medium and our collaboration with creative partners."
I would be curious to know why the canon timeline isn't *appropriate *for the TV medium, and which changes of the . Is the Halo universe too dark so we have to make the covenants leave Madrigal without glassing it the next morning, and also give the spartans a magic implant that supresses their expression so we can magically make them more human while creating useless drama?
Most Halo lore fans are aware of the origin story of Chief, the Spartan program, and the machinations and outcomes of that program, but haven’t seen it through the eyes of the kids who experienced it, or the adults tasked with making it happen. We get to do that, and also tell a story about a fairly dark period in the Halo universe, and unblinkingly look at the ethics and morality – but with the advantage of perspective. We know why the SPARTAN-II program happened and also why it may have been necessary, but the moral ambiguity of both events and characters is going to act as a prism for how we view things we thought we already knew.
Well, that wasn't the story of the spartan program. Both the memory erasing and the emotional regulator implant change EVERYTHING about what it means to be a spartan in this universe. In a way, those children were forced to accept becoming soldiers, but they accepted it anyway, with the sacrifices that was needed. They knew they would never have a normal life, that their entire existence would be sacrificed to protect Earth, the colony and Humanity at large. They also knew, especially after the start of the war with the Covenant, that they needed to be examples of heroic duty to keep the moral high among soldiers. They understood the need to APPEAR invulnerable and without weakness, which includes emotions. And during each training or mission, they felt emotions (maybe more deeply than the average human) but learned to control them and act pragmatically. There is a huge difference between acting like a machine because you have no emotion, and keeping your emotion under control so you can make the best decision under pression.
They could’ve had a show set in the canon, so many possibilities for stories during the war, yet they went this bizarro route
Well, they though it was impossible to get a large audience without having Master Chief, so they made him the center of the plot.
But the Chief is not meant to be center of everything. He's just a really good soldier who is part of a larger story where most of the big decisions (and drama) are made by other characters : Cortana, Jacob and Miranda Keyes, or even Guilty Spark during some part of the first game.
He has more personality and decision making in the books, that's true, but he still limits himself to combat and small tactical choices. The most interesting human interaction I saw him doing in a book was in Operation Silent Storm when he ||has his first meeting with Sgt Johnson and has such difficulty to convince him he's not an under-aged soldier, because Johnson is not stupid||. That's the king of dilemma that is interesting with the spartans, and we should not try to make them completely human. They can make some progress to be MORE human, but the show was going way to far way to fast, and with a stupid technological Deus Ex Machina.
Its live action because Microsoft/343 has wanted to do a live action adaptation in forever but can never get it greenlight because no major studio was willing to work on/give budget for it even during Halo's peak days until Paramount.
So it's basically a caprice.
Maybe it could have worked with the Neill Blomkamp project, because he has the capacity to bring the dark military aspect of Halo into the screen.
But on the Silver Timeline, it's just a bellow-average sci-fi show wearing a Halo skin-suit (because at least most of the visuals at goods, the props department has make the best job in this entire show by far).
