It’s faster to use orange nitro in the air. Since you look pretty inexperienced, nitro tips:

• in the air: orange or purple, and cancel when maximum airspeed is reached
• on the ground, in a straight line: one you hit top speed, use brake-nitro for good nitro cars and nothing for low nitro cars
• on the ground, wide corners: blue nitro
• on the ground, over pavements, grass, etc.: blue nitro for high handling or purple nitro for low handling
• in general, use orange/purple nitro to accelerate and blue/yellow nitro to maintain speed
