Gauntlet does not care whatever your rank is after it starts (by start I mean when it starts not when you do defense) so it’s possible to upgrade, oc or evo your cars and still be in same div as long as it is done after gauntlet has started. To update your division, you need to wait till next gauntlet.

This person has evo, so it’s possible they just used evo and gained rank after gauntlet had started already.
