It’s not a client issue. It’s an issue with an update on the VM side.

Yes indeed. It was linked to a driver update. A fix has been deployed today.

Mine also says Switch to official, then it doesn’t do anything, and after that, finally, hangs on “Shadow Is Ready”, then errors with L-105.
I love how everyone is getting the same issue. (well almost)
If going to the help panel, issuing a shutdown, once says Shadow is off, closing app and waiting 15 mins, still shows L-105, you'll have to send logs via the help panel, open ticket with support describe issue and include the logs code. Steph above might aswell request to logs code.. But don't ping unless asked 🙂
Alright. Shadow powered off, I’ll wait 15 minutes. Does being Beta have an additional pull on this. I got it in Stable, so I just tried through Beta, to see if anything would change.

Resetting your Shadow is the quickest solution if you have nothing important that hasn't been backed up.

The update failing to install on the VM.. Reset wipes the C drive and re-installs windows and shadow components.. It's not really a solution, it's a last resort if cannot fix.

Can be caused by many things I think.. You can send the logs code to Steph to see if a "fix" is possible.

Even if Steph, still have the logo of Shadow, and not the staff logo. So the latter is still missing.

Yes.. But still some problematics on getting the updates to the VMs.. Which could be a number of reasons.

Yesterday, support ran a “maintenance routine” after I contacted them, which fixed it, but now today my issue is back.

It'll change to Shutting down, then Shadow is off.. Once off leave for 2-3 mins then click start again. That's how to restart/reboot your Shadow.

I am having issues since last night I keep getting the error U-200 that says sorry an issue happened with the update service in your shadow. I have actually uninstalled the launcher a few times and I even did a clean uninstall where I went to the program files and erased all instances of shadow. After I did that, I went to the website and reinstalled the launcher, but I keep getting the same results the U-200 error. Any help would be great! When you are saying the .exe that is what is downloading from the website. I have even tried the beta and I get the same error. After research it is telling me that the update that was supposed to run got stuck and some point and did not finish and is causing the launcher to not connect.
Go to the help panel, click send logs. DM that logs code to Steph, scroll up to see user. Wait for them to reply. It's late in France, so have patience.. They'll be able to inform how to proceed.
But essentially, the issue isn't the launcher updating @brittle isle But more issue the VM updating.
Shadow is a French company. Most staff are French and work out of the office in Paris.

So the 104 issue not connecting is related to the VM's themselves not loading? If we don't have data we care about, would a reset to a new instance be worth it?

Are you talking about factory resetting your shadow, because that's what I've seen work for a few people.

It's the band-aid of solutions. Just rip it off and get it over with
It does.. Resets are always there as a LAST CASE SCENARIO. Only way they wouldn't work is if you had an issue with the storage allocated to you.
You can reset your shadow via https://eu.shadow.tech/account/, on the Shadow PC tab > "Manage my subscription" Note: This doesn't clear additional storage and your Shadow PC should be shutdown before resetting.

Lol I tried doing a back up that didn’t work. Was getting network errors so at this point meh. I use Shadow as my primary so being out this long is driving me batty. So I’ll reset again see if it works

Unfortunately not - Just leave the app closed for at least 1 hour... Resets can take longer if many are occurring, so maybe go watch some TV for like 90 mins or so just to be sure.

Unless the issue was something locally stopping you connecting to it. Yes.
Alcohol is a solution, fire is a resolution. The only reason i could see this not working is if the reinstall doesn't place the drivers back correction and the connection is host based.
For the code U-200 while I am waiting will a factory reset fix the issue I am having?
U error codes are the VM not updating for one reason or another, so yes.
Basically at this point the options are
Continue working with support to find a solution
Chose the nuclear solution and Shadow Reset as a last resort 😄

It has taken 3 for me on a good day. Its a full wipe and reinstall of the windows OS and Shadows drivers. It takes time. Close the launcher and occupy your time
If the write-up is shared it may restore some faith in the service. The reliability of the service has been shaken for a lot of people

Took 45m for mine it seems, it's based on the VM i'm sure. Also to @short pier it works for me now
advise, sync one drive to your important stuff. you can set one drive up to something like c:/onedrive/ and migrate desktop/documents/pictures/downloads to those folders. then they always stay up to date! Also getting the D drive does the same thing. (edit: there are many other syncing companies, I'm lazy and chose the one I had access to in college. ymmv. )

honestly, even suggesting to reset the machine is kind of ludicrous. They messed it up and they're still not able to provide a fix. I'm not throwing shade at anyone in the discord here, I know you. guys are trying your best to help, but management/engineering is seriously screwing up here

I only reset mine because this was my first time subscribing to shadow so I didn't really have important things stored
I will say. It being inaccessible has made me realize just what could happen in the future if this happens. I literally have no pc right now, as a freelancer… that’s really bad.

to be fair, i have shadow now for like 2 years. That's the first downtime of that magnitude. Another one was like half a year ago where it was down for maybe 12 hours, idk. So it's usually not that bad. But in this instance, someone screwed up, really bad. They need to do much better.
This is why staging servers exist.

Even better. Support could kind of do something. I emailed them, and told them my error code, and explained stuff, they said they ran a “Maintenance Routine”, then it reinstalled all the components, and booted, but won’t anymore. They have something they can do, they just aren’t doing it for everyone.

try to connect with ur phone while the shadow pc is still updating because the shadow pc will atumatically turn of on ur computer and try to update through ur phone so once ur shadow pc stops working on ur pc u should see something that says try again click on it

You can reset the PC from the webpage. Go to My Shadow PC > Press three dots near your subscription > Reset my Shadow PC

Day 3 and still no change. Still getting the L-505 error. I've done all of suggestions posted here and no change.
When was the last response you got from support on your ticket. If been more than 24 hrs reply and ask for an update, unless you have recently.
Would be about 24h or more. But now I see my status light has gone from yellow to now green and says all services operational.
So I'm gonna shut down shadow again viabthe. ? And take dog out should be 20 min doing that and tey again... I'll report with what happens

Just means that this global issue is now resolved, but doesn’t indicate that some users may need further intervention via support ☺️ Good luck, hopefully yours is solved soon.
In the unfortunate situation where a reset is needed for those still stuck (and aren’t able to get into the emergency environment to back up anything that hasn’t been) Support are able to provide a link to access and download important files that haven’t been backed up.
Side note, anything on additional storage isn’t deleted during reset.

Nope, Shadow Reset just wipes the system drive and reinstalls Windows and shadow components. Additional storage is untouched.

And somehow on my laptop I set admin and changed my account status and can't log into admin. Grrr.
I alos can't access shadow from my phone or headset. Phone l-404 headset just does nothing and laptop l-505
So it's been almost 15 mins.
Launched the app. It asked me to switch to the official app, which I was and am already on. It doesn't start any download just jumps right to starting stream, then says shadow is ready with the log above and white light lines running around the C..... Then it goes back to the launch button and gives me error L-505

So whether that’s a local block or issue with the VM I don’t know.
As it’s across multiple devices and multiple days, since the update went out.
My guess is the latter - as usually these sort of error codes are resolved by shutting down shadow, clicking reset settings in the app, closing app for 10-15s and restarting.
If it’s asking you to switch to official, that’s the update.
But I gave done that switch awhile back to official app
So if it’s refusing to update and throwing up error, my bet is issue VM side and a reset should solve.
What's VM? And it also tells me to disable low bandwidth mode but I have no option to turn it on nor off.
There was an inVM update earlier this week, which is what triggered the Switch to official.

The update includes fixes for Update Problems and the rolled out hotfix further fixes issues. But it’s getting the update onto troubled shadows which is an issue. Which is why most are opting for reset.
I don't know if all my info is saved to the D drive or not. Sucks that I have to take that chance and looks hundreds of gigs worth of avatar data

Then you’ll know for certain what is and isn’t on the system drive.
So I just tried to start again. And it launched. Asked me to go to offical app. BUT this time it did a little different thing.
It went to starting stream and then screen flipped to SHADOW SHUTTING DOWN
Okay, once it says shadow off leave it for a few mins see if it’s in a restarting phase, if nothing hit start. Maybe something got kicked loose, hopefully.
They just messaged me saying they performed a maintenance routine on my VM.

Some it takes a few attempts to get through.. But at least your Shadow is getting the update now.. If after like 5-7 attempts it still doesn't work .. You can hit continue to access then back up.
It uninstalls old compontents to install updated new ones.

I did. I hope they don't take another 24 hours to reply. This truly is such an annoying thing especially how hard and inconvenient it was for me to go to the upgraded shadow plus which doesn't even seem any better then what I was on prior. But now this.
The Plus versions of Shadow are essentially just increased System Storage, Power(+) comes with that plus extra ram. That's all.
No idea what's causing this L 105 issue for you though. Can try shutdown, close wait again.. If that same Update failed screen appears again, click continue, check what needs to move to D Drive, then just reset I guess.
So going from reg to power plus is a waste on a sense is a waste of money is what I gather from that?
Oh.. Power should see a rather substantial increase in performance across the board, unless playing at low resolutions.

Not even the update failed. Seems whatever maintenance they did on yours initially worked, by allowing the update to even start, for something to then go bad again to put back into this state 😫

If you get Update failed screen no matter how many times you click Restart/Retry - Click update later/continue to enter in degraded mode and either Back Up and then reset your Shadow, or work with support to find a solution.
If you get a "U" 101/201/202/204 or L-104/105 work with support for a solution or reset if you don't have anything not backed up
You can reset your shadow via https://eu.shadow.tech/account/, on the Shadow PC tab > "Manage my subscription" Note: This doesn't clear additional storage and your Shadow PC should be shutdown before resetting.
If you do not know how to get your log code, click Help (the ? button at the top right) , then click the Send logs button circled in the screenshot. Just for extra security, do not send your log code to anyone other than official Shadow staff and Support.

Shadow support is so subpar. Spent the whole day with this annoying issue and the "fix" is resetting it.
Why do you think support is subpar ?
Because the chat continues to be an obstacle, and will eventually just tell you to submit a ticket. This is the 4th time my Shadow will be reset since inception. I've lost data before, even from the additional storage because "it changed data centers". I'm frustrated after missing a whole day and coming back today to the same issue.

But support are assisting people getting their shadows back up and running, some might be beyond repair and need a reset to apply the updates, some are fixable.
You don’t get the solution here, I’m here to just give pointers of what has been occurring. Shadow Support are the ones with the answers.
Your TLDR does not say that. it says if you have an error contact support, here is how to reset it. What about mentioning its beyond repair.

Issues that affect access are frustrating, especially ones that are hitting people en mass, making support seem slower than usual. Support/Devs/Engineers are doing all they can to get everything back in working order, just unfortunately takes a bit of patience from both ends.
As said by Pip, I'm not official support but if you PM your 6 log codes I can see if I can try something for you.
I fixed the update issue myself by resetting but I already had sent out a support ticket. Is there a way to close my support request? Or does it not matter.

Same here, but you have to understand, we are all human. Playing with something as tricky as VM's and getting it to work well for as many clients as Shadow has? I play with VM's alot, and let me tell you, that's pretty difficult to do smoothly. Especially if the thing that broke it was the Streamer. Getting that to run well to almost native is pretty impressive. The only reason all this is happening is because the developers are only trying to make it better, and not worse. Like I said before, we are all human and make mistakes.

I need yo use my microphone for certain reason i just cannot update it every-time i press restart it takes me back to the screen and its the same issue over and over again if i press continue it just doesnt let me use microphones nor controllers.

Anyway, back on Topic.. Use the Shadow app help panel to send logs, you'll get a logs code.. Steph can look at this and maybe help, but also open a ticket with support describing you have the update issue and include the logs code, so it's sent just incase Steph cannot assist.

My problem was obviously (to me) a launcher/setup issue, specifically it would loop and say XX of 11 installed, with XX being incremented by one. I got tired of waiting and decided to reset the Shadow.
Can anyone that has used Shadow in the past half year give some perspective. Are all these issues only happening in the last few weeks, or is this more normal. Have been using Shadow on and off for the last three years, but always give up on it as my daily driver as it is so unstable. Have subscribed a week ago again and I have only had issues, update install crash, then reset, installed everything again and now have not been able to connect again due to another issue. Thinking of just cancelling again, but would really like to stay on. So is this unusual? Thanks! 🙏

Most posts on the help channel reach like 15-50 max comments. This update failure issue is the biggest problem I have seen since major storage issues a long while ago.
I never encountered any issues updating. It doesn't affect everyone.

Unfortunately it's an unfortunate period for Shadow: first an OVH problem, on the Frankfurt datacenter (high GPU temperature) and now, their internal update on streaming components that created problems for a lot of clients in all their datacenters. Unfortunately with these complex technology, which are always on 24/7 it can happen.
Anyway if you cancel your subscription, you can still able to use your Shadow until the end of your billing cycle, and after that, since you deleted the auto-renew , your data will be cancel.
And as also mentioned, Resetting your Shadow isn't against ToS not sure where that idea came from. You do so via your Account;
You can reset your shadow via https://eu.shadow.tech/account/, on the Shadow PC tab > "Manage my subscription" Note: This doesn't clear additional storage and your Shadow PC should be shutdown before resetting. - Used as a last resort.

I opened a ticket because my shadow just stucks on booting of my shadow. Sadly the fix doesnt worked for me. I guess the Support Team dont work on saturday or sunday, so i have to wait till Monday...

@formal tree If you’ve not opened a ticket with support and send app logs to them to send to devs, then please do so. Only they can answer as to whether or not yours can be resolved without a reset, they’ll also be able to send a data recovery link if this ends up being the case.

Also support are responding to people, but there’s no SLA on this, not that I’ve seen anyways. They generally aim to reply to people within 24 hour, but it’s not a guarantee and can under extreme loads take longer.

After a completely Reset, or if you are to try, after your billing cycle payments, yes, it's possible
Depends what cloud provider they exist on, if it's aws likely a few ways to recover. Maybe not at scale right away

If you don't/can't install the update your Shadow is in a degraded mode with limited function. If your Shadow doesn't update no matter how many times you click retry on it, it just won't work right now.
You can use the degraded mode to back up anything you've not yet backed up and reset, or just reset to get back to a fully functional Shadow.
Or continue using the degraded mode till devs fix the issue.

Shadow in Paris, they've only been back at work for a few hours.So, they will continue to work to push publicly a hotfix. Reset, could and couldn't work, unfortunately.
Reset will fix any current updating issue, as upon reset the latest components are installed.
Im not authoritative, but i havent seen a case where resetting wasnt affective.

Because unfortunately the prices, hardware, electricity, etc. have increased and they have put it, to try to make people use more Shadow (forget it, the period that Shadow is having) but I explained the reason. In the shop it should have told you (if activation fee is next to it, the i button)

So... I'm having issues again. It keeps giving error L-105. Any idea how to fix it? I can't connect in even a degraded state, and also, I can't reset it, as I have very important data on it.
Did you try the beta launcher ?

Beta, and alpha, no phone.
I did restart, wait 30 minutes, and try again as well, and tried the official app, since beta is what I normally use.
Could be a IPv6 issue. But without being able to test with another network, you should contact support with logs, so they can analyse the issue.
Technically I can test with another, we have Google Wi-Fi, and non Google Wi-Fi, so two networks, with the caveat being that the Google Wi-Fi just runs back to the same router, just show as two Wi-Fi’s, but would that work?
Or I could the IPv4 option in the Shadow Launcher.
Try both, but it may not be enough.
Just realized I forgot to mention this, but I posted here, cause all versions of Shadow give me the “Update to x Version?” prompt everytime. Though, it’s loading.

It sounds like something has been rolled out to alpha beta stacks which may resolve these issues
The only fix that I know of is to (if you want to) reset your entire shadow, though it wipes all your files you could technically just back everything up using like Google drive or something. I could be wrong and a new fix has been discovered, but like I said that’s the only one I know of.

This is part of the global update loop disaster. They stated on their status page they are rolling out a fix and you can wait for it or reset your vm

Not related to the thread. Either your graphics drivers are out of date, your GPU is disabled in Device Manager on Shadow, or you didn't have a GPU attached to your VM on boot.
