Yeah continue will be without the update in a restricted mode as mentioned. Next boot up it will try update again.

if i press display safe mode does it have a chance of letting me in and clearing up some space? is that button safe to press? or is this restricted mode some other button i’m not seeing (or am i just not doing a good job of reading because i am pretty upset right now)
Display safe mode is just connecting without EDID stuff, it's for when people have well Display issues.

Bagel, you should be able to just press "continue" to be able to go in without updating and that way you can clear some things
This may surprise you, but most people don't spend the entire day outside for the 4th of July. Some people enjoy the time off in other ways.

I realized mine actually didn't do the update, so I just relaunched my program, update failed, then I hit restart and it worked (just did it just now)

I just got my Shadow yesterday so I'm unfamiliar with all this update stuff, needless to say I'm also having some issues... I don't even get the 'continue' or 'switch to official version' options
Just this little error message at the bottom every time I try

I have restarted my laptop, relaunched Shadow like 10 times, tried switching between official and beta versions. Just can't get a proper boot

Pretty much the same as the op in this thread, when I first tried to start I was getting a switch version prompt (almost went to yell at my kids thinking they used the different version and old launcher or something being weird). After a few attempts and getting the new beta client because that used to solve some issues if I was having trouble launching, I started to get the update failed message. And did launch in restricted mode when clicking continue but seeing as I wanted to play a game with a controller... that was not good enough. Did a full laptop reboot as I was on like over a month of uptime just to make sure it wasn't on my end. Then I came here and searched "update failed" and found this thread.
Righto, does retry update not work then? Sometimes it can take 2-3 attempts to make it through. If not, DM me the logs code you sent to support.
Was kind of hoping to have my hot bath and it just work when I'm done. 🛀
Maybe 20-30 minutes and I'll look into how to grab those logs.

What i had to do was just turn off shadow then change my bitrate to 5mb wait like 5 minutes and then turn it back on and it worked

You mentioned an update for "L:104" issues earlier in this thread, so this seemed a pertinent place to mention my issue...as I only started getting this issue today, and have had similar issues to people in this thread...I thought maybe there was service related news? Searching L-104 on this forum doesn't seem to yield any similar results
There's a few... But anyways, please contact support.. If nothing helps mentioned in the posts.. Like shutting Shadow down via the Help Panel, once shadow is off, wait 5 mins and try again.. Resetting app settings etc etc
Unless there's some sort of Days allowed to be viewed by users, then that's an issue and would require a new one 😄
Yes but in your own screenshot it shows the last post was 3 days ago, and you mentioned an update that specifically addresses an error code I got...is it a case of my client not getting this update? I've done those troubleshooting tips you suggested, and the last support ticket I put in to shadow I had to wait almost a week for a response
Hence why I'm trying to get some kind of dialogue going with you...you see? 😛

clicked restart like 10 times just now and it takes about half a second and back to above. Oh well im off to store, if no change when I get home I'll open the support ticket
Also, just thinking on random things. I remember there being a reccomendation to do a full reset of the shadow after being migrated. Kinda forgot about that, and then I was migrated from TX to DC datacenter... mayhaps that has created some issue? Anyone else with failing update that has been migrated recently(ish)?

Click back, click (?) hit the Shutdown button. Once the message says Shadow is off. Close the Shadow Application, wait 5 minutes. Re-try. If issue persists, please click the (?) then the Cog which will be send app logs, you'll get a code, put this code into a ticket with support via your account explaining the issue.

OK. During this (my 5th attempt), it worked.
Uninstalled, then installed 11 components. And it worked.
Patience and try again a quite few times, should be the key. 😅

Continue boots in without the update, albeit in limited mode. Then it will try update next boot.

So, what if it doesn't even do the update? I try to start Shadow and it tells me to update to Official version, but it doesn't actually start the update. It goes straight to "starting streaming services" and after 3-5 minutes gives me either L-104 or L-105.
For L 104 / 105 you'll need to send logs and contact support.

Yes I'm getting the update failed. Pressing restart almost instantly put me back into this screen. Pressing continue and shadow loads forever before printing an error message (something like error while booting).
Ah.. Any error codes or bootloader screens that appear, screenshot them along with logs code in ticket to Support.

For me I hit switch to official version and then it just says starting streaming services then says shadow is ready but nothing happens

Well, it started updating earlier, but then it restarted itself and now doesn't even give an option to continue
I occasionally see the boot bios but then get error U-201 which is weird

That's cause you didn't update... Clicking Restart up to like 5 times should fix it... Otherwise in this degraded mode.

Back from my errands, now instead of "starting to boot, haning a while, and then getting update failed" it just goes straight to update failed. So... progress? lol I am gonna sit here and hit restart 2 or 300 times.

Can you use the XBox cloud play on your local machine? I used that a few times in the past, but I am so used to mouse and keyboard, and Xbox cloud only supported controller (at the time?)

That’s the hypervisor saying that a display hasn’t attached yet.
Ok now it says update failed.

Good news is that Pip has been working like a madman to get these log codes to Shadow; they’ve been collecting them all and are hopefully working on a solution.
Support have been on the ball today and been getting back to people with in a few hours... if support take a week to get back, there's other issues.
Generally it's <24hr and slightly longer on weekends.
they are quite fast they replyed to me twice today
but im afraid that the fix may be hard for them and requires time

How many times have you tried? Have you also tried shutting down Shadow for like 5 mins before try? Might help with the L 104 you had.

the update uh, kinda made it so whenever i open a certain game it thinks im on mobile.

Hard reset worked as expected. I'm on win 11 now !
i know its caused by the update because the bug was present on the alpha and beta clients for like a while and the normal client hadn't updated with the features yet so it still functioned normally.
Best to open a ticket with support about it.

Spamming the restart button? Or going to "shutdown shadow" waiting for it to shut down, and hitting "start shadow"? Cuz I just took a 20 minute break from the former, and trying again, it still insta fails for me over and over, doing the latter now.

The Shadow needs to be shutdown for a few mins prior to reset, otherwise error.
You can reset your shadow via https://eu.shadow.tech/account/, on the Shadow PC tab > "Manage my subscription" Note: This doesn't clear additional storage and your Shadow PC should be shutdown before resetting.

If your issues persist after Shadow being shutdown for 15 mins. It's down to support to fix, or reset.
The L 105 that is and constant updating loop. Either or.
Some have got into the update install after having L 105 after a shutdown.. So if you've not tried. try it. If you have then yeah.
By shutdown you mean the red power button within the ? menu on the shadow app?

Has anyone reported doing a full reset has fixed anything? I am considering logging in with continue, transferring what I need to D drive, and doing a reset as its been quite a while since I did one.
I mean it will fix almost anything outside of storage issues. It's the nuclear option.
it would fix it... i think alot of people have at the minute, its being very slow at resetting
But wouldnt that need the "software" that they are imaging onto the VM to be completely up to date as well, I am just imaginging a scenario where I do the reset, and it still needs to bring itself up to the newest version of the streaming software anyways. 
I dunno, i don't know much, just a layman that reads a lot lol.

Due to not being able to issue shutdown yeah, I guess the Shadow auto shutdown via idleness.
Ah ok, well mine seems to take the shutdown command... I guess Ill wait for at least one more support response (although kinda disappointed in getting "try the beta") before seriously considering pulling the trigger on the nuclear option

How long after a Shutdown of Shadow via the help menu did you leave it before starting again?

basicaly i only saw the "failed update" and restart option once , i was stuck on "installing components 233 (or something) out of 11" and then it stopped and i was able to click on "start" and it looped

If you wish to reset and get an error it's mostly cause the Shadow is still on
@agile sleet if your trying to fully reset your Shadow PC Go to My Account on the the ShadowPC Website and next to your subscription click the 3 DOTS and Click Reset Make sure your ShadowPC is Shutdown

As the website said its gonna take around 60mins for the reinstall of windows and the wipe of the C Drive so we are at a standstill for the moment Im hoping the issue doesnt continue afterwards and I'm hopping the Devs/Support fix this so this isnt what everyone has to do.

Your shadow must be fully shut down. Either click the power button in the launcher to shut down shadow, or wait out the idle timer for the machine to shut down

Anyone considering doing the reset, keep in mind that "clicking restart on the update failed message" seems to have worked for a fair chunk of users. I have been trying for about 8 hours off an on with no success getting the update to process.
Doing a full reset is a last resort, and you will completely wipe your shadow and start fresh.

Yes. You can also try switching between beta and official clients. And if you get to a screen saying update failed with Continue, or Restart options, try to hit restart a few (dozen?) times. Some people have gotten it to work after a few attempts. Some of us didnt and went ahead with a full reset because impatient.

TLDR: Just keep trying, and either get lucky and it updates eventually. Or get tired of doing that and do a reset of your machine, but thats last resort

I did a second reset, but only because I did the pre-setup one, and then I couldnt figure out how to get it to change some stuff with how windows had named my personal file structure... for ease of using some of the files I had copied over from backup. And with the presetup it makes it SHADOW as the username and I wanted what it used to be... so I just reset again with the clean option to start from fresh fresh

I think enough people have sent logs at this point that shadow can address this without me doing so.....I highly doubt I'm experiencing anything unique. I would imagine my error logs look the same as many others.
If you are having issue you will still need to contact support yourself, they might find something else that causes it. Every little bit of data helps.

Once you get automated email that ticket is opened and have a ticket ID it’s a matter of waiting for an agent to reply. This could be a few hours it could be within 24 hours. Opening subsequent tickets will just delay their response.
If I had to make an educated guess from the 600+ messages in this thread alone, Support is probably swamped with people having the exact same issues. Those tickets have to be gone through in the queue by humans, so it’s going to take a bit for them to reply to every single one, even if it’s just a canned macro reply.

It’s a mixed bag. Some people have said that a reset fixed it, others have been out of luck and have to start fresh when everything’s back up.
I’d just wait it out. Team is aware.
Not saying said fix will solve all issues around what’s going on. Some might need to reset if their shadow is in a state that it simply won’t update. To which support will advise via your ticket.

L-104 can be caused by a number of things. A simple shutdown, wait 2-3 mins and start again can “fix it”

Mostly, just keep clicking Restart not continue on the failed update screen.
Or if even after like 10 tries it doesn’t work you’ll have to use the degraded mode till issue fixed. Which you can track progress on the second pinned message.

If you clicked continue on a failed update message, you're in degraded mode. Microphones, controllers, and some keyboard functions will not operaate.

You have a failed update. You can click continue and still use your VM in degraded mode, but some functionality isn't available as it says on the tin.
Shadow should have an update out to fix all these issues, just no timeframe currently.
try to do the update in your phone app, it worked for me
so it`s not registering my controller and mic it started this yesterday but before then they worked fine and I tried restarting it and that did not work.
Read the fine print of the image above as to what you agreed would happen when you continued into degraded mode.

Guess I'll join the band wagon.... Last 2 days been dealing with L-105.... I did the official app update awhile ago. Then all of a sudden it forces me to do it again and now I can't get past the start now screen.
I've uninstalled. Reinstalled. Reinstalled beta, safe mode etc. Even uninstalled my phone app.
Still can't get past this MF screen. Contacted support and they are not responding this time where as before they responded relatively fast.... It's unfortunate because it was working amazing before...

If you did, it means you're in an "Emergency Environment" as the update didn't work. So those things are not usable, it mentions on the Failed Update screen.. Now if it's simply booting into this state without an update screen, then it would seem your shadow isn't even attempting an update.

I think I'm on bracket that's too full and doesn't work
keep trying. if gets to like 5-7 attempts and still not updating, you will need to work with support or reset. - Click update later to back up anything before reset ofc.

Well yes it's the Hotfix.. Which for those who previously installed the update fine, this installs fine as the update before had fixes for update problems.
It's just getting that initial update for those that cannot update which needs fixing.
My flow was, launch the iPadOS TestFlight client, start Shadow, get failed update message, restart and try again, it managed to uninstall the bad components and reinstall the fixed ones. I’m back operational.
Can someone send a hard reset for shadow pc link. I seems I can't find it and when I went thru support this pops up

To reset Shadow,,shutdown your Shadow first, from ? of the launcher

So unless the devs come up with a fix, I can't use my shadow
when i restart it works try reinstall your shadow client
They have. It’s been rolled out. If your shadow still fails to update, you have to work with support on how to proceed.
My support said the devs haven't said anything about the bug...

Because as you can see a hotfix has rolled out. But if yours isn’t even attempting to update then it needs further intervention. Or reset.
I have so many save files and stuff that I wouldn't have storage to download it all.... I'm not resetting yet man...

You’ll need to click back, go to help panel send logs, open ticket with support include screenshot of this, and the logs code. - or if you don’t have anything of importance not backed up, reset your shadow.
i have contacted the support and sent them my logs and they said that they're investigating the problem about 6-8 hours ago

I've had days where my shadow was not working and was not compensated...
If access is without for more than 24 hours due to shadow issue, compensation is given once resolved.

I doubt beta will help as your shadow is stuck in windows boot manager. Options are to wait for support to get back to you, or reset shadow.

Be sure to issue a shutdown via the help panel then close the app once says off.
last time I remember I had 20gb left or less, and yesterday morning, at all, it started for a minute but after that crashed back into the launcher
welp, hotfix didn't do anything. That's.... disappointing
