The time is finally here to attempt to build the craziest Salad Fork ever. It needs a serial first, so I'll take care of that, but immediately after is when the fun starts.

The goal is pure speed, not much else. I'll be using a custom gantry designed by our lovely Thor which will be AWD and Y assist, on Nema 17's. Obviously, structural panels and other things will occur, but this is just so I can log it as I go. Welcome to poor decision making!

#

Wonder who'd be interested... probably @lament ridge and @placid saddle

lament ridge
#

@latent socket Faster! 🤣

So where is this starting? Well, sorta jank to start. Its sitting on some boxes to my left currently as I work on the CAD to make it too fast. Lets call this a before picture

#

Ill be using some OMC 2504 motors to power the beast, so I gotta figure out how much its going to be for 6 of them

#

I'll be adding structural panels and frame support to reduce the frame wiggle (because its a lot) and most likely some rigid bed mounts to make sure the bed isn't too wiggly either

#

I may be shrinking/reusing Xiars printed e-bay when he's done with it, or making my own

#

The goal is to maintain the purple and green theme, so if anyone knows if a green high grade filament exists, do let me know so that I can keep EVA-01 lol

latent socket
#

Been forever, but the build has taken a different direction. I've ordered a 2020 frame for it from DLLPDF, and this will end up being closer to a Tiny T than a Salad Fork (sorry Yeri)

#

It's not going to stay EVA-01 (very sadly) since the color scheme is changing up, but I'll come up with some cool name

#

This will still be insane, and most everything is staying the same

#

The main difference is the larger extrusions for the frame, and the color theme

latent socket
#

MossHex?

#

So, dllpdf gave me a lead time of about 6-8 weeks on the frame for this printer, which means that this build will be on hold until late march/early April, which is sad. However they are the best option for the frame here, only downside is that I’m impatient lol. If I’m allowed, I’ll post a
couple of cad pics to keep it active as I go

ITS BEEN FOREVER

#

We are so back, DLLPDF custom frame is finally in and I can start building this damn thing

#

I'll start printing Z drive parts today and assembling the frame, this weekend I'll most likely finally get to moving the bed, Z drive, and electronics over

#

That means I can also post my CAD for the 9mm version of Hexdrive that I'll be using

#

Still lots of CAD speculation going on, but the gantry is 99% complete in terms of the printed parts

#

This is also the first of my builds I'll actually be posting on the internet, so Im going to do my best to keep it clean and pretty

placid saddle
#

9mm belts on such a small printer with 6 motors is going to be absurd! I can't wait.

#

Status for the night, I forgot to get more M5 bolts lol

#

I’ll scrounge for some more or grab some at home in a couple of days, but this is all I can get done for tonight

lament ridge
latent socket
#

Oh just checked, not far off of square

lament ridge
latent socket
#

This frame is probably the best I’ve worked with though… hats off to DLLPDF lol

#

Looks gorgeous and assembles amazingly

lament ridge
#

Imma have to get me a DLLPDF frame at some point.

#

I’m just impatient and 8 weeks is a long time.

latent socket
#

It flew by for me since I’m in college and perpetually doing something lol, but yeah it is quite some time

lament ridge
#

I’m very project oriented. So if it takes 8 weeks to arrive and costs my project budget for a payday then it kinda sucks. Lol.

latent socket
#

Very understandable. I will also say, mine took the full 8 weeks because it’s a custom frame that he had to fully fab and coat

#

For a common frame it’s much shorter, iirc

#

Given this, I’ll happily shill them lol. If they want some showcase printer pics…. This may be the build log to pull from

lament ridge
#

I shill them and I haven’t even ordered anything from them. 🤣

latent socket
#

Frame status for tonight, completed!

#

Given its a 160 frame, feels pretty solid. Suuuuper happy with DLLPDF quality.

#

I also pulled the Z axis apart from the Salad Fork, and someone went 8 weeks of CAD and planning without actually checking if the SF Z components are the same as the Trident

#

Luckily, they are

#

I did however, forget that I am not an infinite hardware store and am lacking some roll in T-nuts

#

Got some ordered, hoping to have the Z axis printed and completed next week.

#

As for the gantry, I'll be printing the initial parts out of ABS to ensure that I did my CAD right, and then afterwards print them from PET-CF

latent socket
#

New parts are in but I have been swamped in homework this weekend. We shall see if I can work on it this week and post updates.

latent socket
#

Once again, I forget to post updates

#

CAD hasn't changed much, though dev on the custom toolhead is getting started

#

I'll post some stuff later this week, but parts are being developed. Once my V2 is functional (which I say 4 times a day) I'll print prototyped parts for the 9mm Hexdrive out of ABS so that I don't burn my PET-CF on parts that could be CADed wrong

👀

latent socket
#

Now I have a bit of pressure to finish lol.
Alright, current update is the parts I have printed work pretty well and fit as far as I can tell, I'll be ordering rails here quite soon

lament ridge
#

What have you been doing that is not ordering build parts?! 🤣

latent socket
#

School lol, finals are next week and after that I'll finally start my internship and get a bit of a cash flow to start properly building this thing

lament ridge
#

Alright. School is an acceptable excuse.

I’m calling you out @latent socket !

latent socket

Oh man it’s been a minute lol

lament ridge
#

No kidding! 🤣

latent socket
#

This build will happen very soon, because in two weeks I will officially be graduated and have free time!!

latent socket
lament ridge
#

You’ll have so much more time to do stupid things!

craggy coral
#

money is my main issue though tbh

but congrats

Money is everyone’s issue. LOL

craggy coral

if he calls the machine HexDrive that means each Machine with HexDrive would have a different name

#

HexDrive, HexDent, HexMoss, and HexDex

lament ridge
#

I got to build it cause I asked Thor if I bought a trident instead of a computer monitor if I could. Lol

lament ridge
latent socket
lament ridge
craggy coral

though that means there all different too. with his being 250 i beleive. yours being 350. Evades looks like its a 180 maybe 120. and mines 350 IDEX

craggy coral
latent socket
#

It’s a tiny printer lol, excited to see how it moves once built

lament ridge
craggy coral
#

i might start the build log now to get it all setup

latent socket
#

I made this one with full confidence I’d finish it, and yet these are the first messages here in about a year lol

Ooh right, you’re on printed side pack rn

lament ridge
#

Plus an extra 50mm above the toolhead. Lol.

#

Need the space.

latent socket
#

I can imagine, that’s what the custom frame I have added over just a normal 160 trident

lament ridge
#

It’s probably the biggest struggle with tridents. Lol

latent socket
latent socket
#

Riiiight my bad lol

#

I’m a helper, I should know that lmao

lament ridge
#

Not that I’m one to say that. hiding

#

That was smart though. Using that to help with your studies.

craggy coral
#

ruh roh i did it

latent socket
#

I also printed some rocket parts with it, which was fun

lament ridge
#

Clearly. I went in the wrong direction after HS. 🤣

latent socket
#

Engineering is a ton of fun I will admit lol

lament ridge
#

I’ll stick with hobbyist engineering for now. Lol

latent socket
#

I kinda want to officially return to 3d printing lol, start actually saying things in the discords again lol

#

I just planned the rebuild for my V2 so I’ll have a few projects at the least

craggy coral
#

@latent socket I was told to ask you for either the Cad files or to figure out what needs change to put 9mm belts on Hexdrive

#

HexDex might want 9mm over 6mm

latent socket
latent socket
#

Ill upload the unverified version to my own GitHub but once im sure it work, Ill poke Thor about getting official release

lament ridge
craggy coral

Lol

craggy coral

All the HexDrive machines in one place 2 with 6mm belts and 2 with 9mmheh

Alright ladies and gents, I am officially a mechanical engineer and am making my return to printing (for the 5th time). My V2 is mostly functional and I've got a roll of Zyltech ABS on the way for the wonderful HexMoss to begin getting experimental parts printed and a gantry officially made. I'm also getting underway with a secret experimental printer that will hopefully be able to print some very fun material for future printers here soon. I also have some beta parts that I totally definitely didn't fail to use because of school, but they will definitely be included in upcoming builds

lament ridge
craggy coral
#

@latent socket not to bother you too much but did you ever get the 9mm version uploaded to github? just curious also congrats again
