people romanticize fictional dystopian future society so hard we already moving there at high speed
next stop: happy postapoc fallout-style
hey has anyone here played disco elysium and if so what's the mood, like is it a downer or do you get some lightheartedness
it's a mix of both, the game constantly swings moods.
I will say for me personally it kept a good balance of both. While it can get sad, it knows to not stay on that note for way too long and have player some room of joy and peace and also understands it can't be all comedy or pure sense of happiness, so it swing back when it's most important.
We Happy Few?
British post apoc
prolly
that's actually a type of story telling i really like, thank you for the info!
My response to this is simple: giving those who have been historically marginalized a chance to speak on their own history. The saying "history is written by the victors" is only true to some extent: to be more accurate, it's more like the victors' pov of historical events is what makes it to the textbooks, which can lead to extremely biased viewpoints of history. When it comes to history (and anything humanities/anthropology-related study in general), one has to approach it in multiple angles: after all, humans are multifaceted, and so are the things that have sprouted from them.
And I especially say this for someone who volunteers on the education side at a history museum, hehehe
agreed
Out of the blue subject change, but replaying the Azure Moon route of Fire Emblem Three Houses made me realize I relate to Gilbert more than I would like to admit.
imo there can be some meta commentary about characters like Gilbert where it's like, whether a character is liked by fans is not whether they have issues, but whether the media chooses to ignore, romanticize, or actually show negative impacts of those issues
Like Felix somehow is the top 10 most popular males in the whole franchise despite putting down just about everyone in his supports, just because the supports twist it in a way that's like "oh its ok because he Actually Cares Inside! It's Cute Actually!" without showing the negative impacts of his words in others, that would surely have been present in a real world scenario
that's the tsundere effect. whether a character is actually "tsun" or not doesn't matter. if that character comes across harsh but "oh don't worry they actually care though!" then they're labeled as tsun and their bad attitude gets swept under a rug, it happens all the time. and then everyone treats it as some cute quirk and not something you would actually hate someone for doing to you irl
stage whisper: tsun characters are boring and trite
me picking up a megaphone: i dislike the trend of calling characters who are emotionally constipated for one reason or another tsun because without fail it will be treated as some cute quirky personality trait and any meaningful discussion about how that character acts and how that affects those around them is disregarded
that really be the way 😔
also stage whisper: it has not escaped my notice this typically only happens with male characters
"nintendo online subscription needed to import playermade custom designs"
console moment
how to make my sister upset tutorial
well i guess i can get one month and hoard as many designs as possible and be done with it
nintendo online is a borderline scam at base and an outright one with the "expansion"
compared to other services it's very cheap so if you're getting just the base package i think it's fine but the n64 expansion is definitely a scam. just emulate it
locking the acnh expansion behind it is also very anti-consumer but when has that stopped nintendo
Unironically microsoft's fault for spreading this paid online plague
It kinda just feels low when those things used to be free in the past
i guess console players got used to it but I always had a pc and cant damn support it any longer
I'm also on console, but long enough to remember an era where online stuff was free as long as you provide your own internet
the acnh expansion can be bought on its own iirc
and also when tripleA games didn't cost a fortune
WATCH MY LANGUAGE? I LITERALLY JUST WROTE AN ENTIRE ESSAY ABOUT WHY I RELATE TO GILBERT AND WHY I SYMPATHIZE WITH FELIX: WHAT LANGUAGE?!
Sigh
I'll try to summarize what I originally typed.
- I relate to Gilbert in the guilt complex sense, even to the Catholic guilt metaphor (I myself was raised Catholic)
- I hate the tsundere trope, but only when taken to the extreme (which, sadly, happens a lot).
- On that note, I don't think Felix falls under that extreme tsundere trope. Yes, he has trouble expressing his emotions, but a majority of the characters do, especially in the Blue Lions house. I think the best evidence of this is his support chain with Annette: he doesn't push her away like you'd expect a tsundere. In fact, he tries to genuinely be nice to her (which is very amusing to watch in their first two supports because he really just likes her singing but somehow can't seem to express that, leading to a very amusing form of miscommunication).
- I also hate the term "emotionally constipated." I think a more accurate term is "emotionally awkward," because let's face it: emotions are difficult to deal with. It's not easy to express them, and it takes a lifetime to learn how to express them in a healthy manner: even if we do learn, we will slip up at times. That's how I view Gilbert and Felix: people who are terrible at coping with negative emotions. And honestly, who isn't?
i wanna get project zomboid and i missed the sale hnnnnngh
No cussing, basically.
gosh darn it!
the division lara?
ah damn it now i wanna reinstall the division
it's a dirty old habit of mine. rather have this than alcoholism though
Playing dead cells till joy con drift acted up and made fail quite a bit till dead lol (also looked how the boss cells worked, not looking foward to that)
But enjoying gameplay so far
I didn't cuss tho, that's the thing ;-;
I can literally see the first section of what you wrote. You did.
I somehow missed this entire conversation lol, but yeah, I find the tsundere trope to be [CENSORED] annoying.
I did? Huh, I must have gotten too into it lol
ironically, because of my experiences, Felix/Annette is my most disliked trope of all time because Annette never shows any discomfort in how Felix treats his other schoolmates. My high school time was basically spent as a Dedue who was friends with the Annette, and let me tell you the Annette was very conflicted with her relationship with the Felix, but didn't know how to bring it up without jeopardizing her standing.
On that note, I am not saying that either character's actions are justified: I am simply pointing out the possible intentions behind said actions.
she even once sort of brought it up with me, and a cynical part of me wanted to say she didn't have enough courage, but let's be real we were all confused 17/18 year olds
Ah, I see! Goes to show that personal experiences influence how we view the awkward stages of high school lmao
yeah it kind of fed into why I like Hades/Persephone in this game, because Persephone is like I'm not putting up with how you treat Zag and pushes Hades to actually make an effort to work on himself
And even Felix himself is like yeah, you can see how he's not quite the tsundere trope, but fandom is quick to tropify characters as usual
As usual with fandoms ;-;
In terms of my own relationship with my boyfriend, I am basically rapidly switching between Sylvain and Annette (sometimes being both at the same time #genderfluid) while he is consistently a Felix; it's a very interesting dynamic and I'm both surprised and grateful he puts up with me.
Not to mention he is legit a sword nerd and has done fencing
Should I get him a sword from Medieval Times
YES
someone at my work is into swords etc and over quarantine he made a suit of chain mail
When my boyfriend visits Dallas, maybe I can scrape enough money to buy a sword from Medieval Times. Now, how he will get it back to Michigan is something we'll deal with later lol
Legit tho, my boyfriend being a sword nerd makes me want to try blacksmithing
sadjdsflkjdsfk I'm in michigan
is your bf my workmate
is he short but very buff and wears the same leather jacket forever
He is short, but he's not buff. And I'm not sure if he owns a leather jacket, but I can see him doing that lol
Me: Who spent $200 on a sword
My boyfriend: awkwardly raise hand
NO MY BOYFRIEND DID NOT ACTUALLY SPEND $200 ON A SWORD
At least...I hope so ;-;
LOL
Actually, I think there are some swords in one of the small malls at my collegetown's downtown area, but I could be wrong
also ironically enough Sylvain/Felix is another ship that I feel strongly about fan interpretations, but this time I feel more for Felix because oftentimes fandom just portrays Sylvain as forcefully jamming himself past Felix's physical and mental boundaries, and then say "oh Felix is ⭐ secretly loving it <3" like please, stop
God, tell me about it
It's so uncomfortable
Sylvain is charming, yes, but the main reason why this ship works is because they are childhood friends: they have known each other for a long time and respect each others boundaries
Somehow, the fandom has interpreted Sylvain playful teasing as Sylvain being forceful onto Felix, and I hate it so much
yup
If anything, it was Felix who opens up to Sylvain in their support chain; Sylvain respected Felix's desire for distance and let him make the move first
it's like out of all people surely Sylvain is the one who knows Felix well enough to get on his own wavelength and help work through his issues
On that note, one of my favorite lines in their support is Sylvain going "it's either our friendship or your training" and Felix, without hesitation, goes "my training."
God, Felix, I love your deadpan delivery
LOL
But yeah, even with Sylvain's constant teasing of Felix, he knows where the latter's boundaries lie, and respects them!
And I think it makes sense because both of them have seen the other growing up, and both of them know each other's traumas. Out of the Fargheus four, those two probably are the closest
On that note, I will never get tired of Sylvain and Dimitri's support chain
"Is Dimitri here?"
"Uh, you know what?"
window crash
"He just left"
lag, but yeah I've come to realize a lot of ships that I don't like are because they (or at least the dominant fandom interpretation) rub against my issues and give the "I've been there and it's not as romantic as you think" vibe
That's valid! Romanticization of romance (pun intended) is wild, and even someone like me, who is almost absurdly romantic, knows its dangers. The prioritizing of romantic relationships over other forms of relationships just...ugh
oh yeah I meant romantic ships but yeah romance-normativity is also def an issue
Yeeeeeep
Although I find it amusing sometimes, I do find it a bit much when fandoms ship characters so much that it distorts the original characters and their relationship with each other (if they even had one) to unhealthy degrees.
I've never been deep enough into fandom to see that stuff but that sound yikes
Be happy you haven't. It's worse in the kpop fandom, and I'm so happy that I left ugh
oh gods real people fic there creep me out
or pokemon conquest
or Rhythm Heaven switch. Nintendo can literally port all the past rhythm heaven games onto one cart and I'd pay the 60 bucks
using the joycon gyroscope to replace the DS stylus swipe
im summoned
but also lol thats just never happening at this rate
and Legends Arceus might have Ranger-like elements too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERAhGia6azE speaking of arceus
Want a sneak peek at how your adventure in the Hisui region will look, Trainers? 🤩
Check out this new gameplay preview ahead of the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus on Friday, January 28!
why does the shine effect stay on kleavor during that fight lmao that genuinely looks bad
like the. ray beam looking things
that'd be cool on a sprite but on a 3d model it just looks like its lagging out and the effect is glitched,,
I didnt even watch the whole video lol
i skipped through it
i dont have any current gen consoles so its hard for me to be interested in anything console exclusive so im eh

Didnt expect hollow knight nail to be in dead cells
Pogo is fun
The nier automata demake is looking great
@lusty pendant Can I dm you a FE3H meme? I can't post it here because there are children, but it's not explicit I promise
Sure
fire emblem three houses is awesome
Metroid Dread: parry enemies by pressing X at the flash :)
Me: I have trained in the depths of Hades fishing for this very moment
lmao
I have so many games with fishing mechanics that are not actual fishing games and I find that to be extremely funny
This artist drew Ashe as Ganymede and now I have feelings
https://www.instagram.com/p/CYo00C2q1er/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
is it rly an rpg if there's no fishing
Tru tho
does botw's diving into a lake and throwing bombs at it count as fishing
… TIL Witcher 3 isn’t an RPG
Wdym? Shooting drowners with a crossbow is fishing
I mean duh of course it's not a Ruchnoy Protivotankoviy Granatomyot, it's a game
Troy Baker is now promoting NFTs in games

I only learned of that va recently, which is funny because he is apparently a very prominent voice actor? And I just...didn't know he existed
Have you played The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, Bioshock Infinite?
no.
Oh no, not Troy Baker
Ew lmao
crypto vocaloid
the amount of No Research this man did into the company he's partnering with is incredible
and if he Did, well, that's heinous
anyway remember that crypto grifters are very fervently trying to bludgeon us to accepting nft because they already paid into it and need us all onboard so they can cash out ✨
lol what a joke
Did he really just say "only talk to me if you agree with me" cause thats how I'm reading it lmao
Poor Harry
good news! this latest "wacky take" was using, you guessed it, stolen work https://twitter.com/fifteenai/status/1482055102919757835
I've been informed that the aforementioned NFT vocal synthesis is actively attempting to appropriate my work for their own benefit.
After digging through the log files, I have evidence that some of the voices that they are taking credit for were indeed generated from my own site.

just another day in nft hellscape
at least i have marginally more hope for nft not becoming microtransactions 2 electric boogaloo because they're getting way more pushback at every turn
not surprised at all
nfts in general are associated with stolen works, the fact that a person considering themselves an artist either didn't know or didn't care just shows what kind of an idiot he is tbh
i love replaying games then forgetting that they have THAT part
right now it's Titanfall 2 on highest difficulty and the exploding ticks from the pump shutdown procedure level
it's a bit early but god i hate those things
humble still exists?
they havent really been that good lately
though real talk ive p much forgotten about them ever since that debacle about changing donations. sure they walked that back (only because of backlash) but the fact they attempted to do so in the first place
Ye, humble haven't been as good after ign? bought em
The change in how they did dono's for that short while was pretty darn terrible
https://www.polygon.com/2017/10/13/16473542/ign-buys-humble-bundle
It was ign that bought humble bundle
love how dry tatz' messages can be
fdklsgsjhkdsgjk;
well!
i Do actually just Forget humble is still limping around somewhere
they had a bundle last year that had works made by black authors and I totally regret not getting it i'm ngl but ign's handling of things has totally deflated humble's appeal to me
the last thing i remember getting from them was vegas pro 15 from some big uh. video and audio tools type stuff bundle. didnt have a need for it at the time but was like, well its 25 bucks maybe i can use it some time. years later in ye olde 2021 tatz finally opened vegas pro..
i remember getting some big card game bundle yeeears ago but a lot of the times i was even aware of deals it was a lot of stuff i had little interest in ¯_(ツ)_/¯
vegas pro is great if you enjoy animating comic panels! but all my film media industry friends make fun of it as an actual editing program 😷
oh i just needed it for some quick clipping and fade outs on vids bc i otherwise had nothing to achieve that with and happened to remember i still had these serial codes LOL
I got the bundle regardless because one never knows but it isn't replacing premiere for me
i dont really work with video editing as it is so its merits of how good it is or isnt isnt relevant to me
i guess a lot of people stream and post edited stuff on yt these days tho...
but i would never stream bc i find it quite difficult to talk and do basically anything else at the same time
no one needs to see me being bad at games
I bought a few of the itchio bundles when they popped up seemed at the time like they were more focused on helping, and unless something came out about them I still believe that lmao
i haven't gotten much from humble bundle in recent years cause the bundles just haven't been as good lol
never that many good games i want that i don't already have......often from old humble bundles
hey chatte what is your favorite non-sgg switch title?
cracks knuckles
Coffee Talk
VA-11 HALL-A
Fire Emblem Three Houses (to no one's surprise)
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl reboots
I'm pretty sure I have more-
OH
Deemo, lol (although that originated as a mobile game)
miitopia :)
13 Sentinels (coming soon)
fe3h, botw, smash bros devil may cry 3 hd, and smt5 is probably going to end up in my favorites once I'm done
Golf Story is pretty neat
also miitopia
switch-exclusive: metroid dread, though I only played it for a few hours but it's quite fun. Mario Odyssey has fans but I'm not into 3D stuff
available on switch but not exclusive: Celeste, hollow knight, the ori games
Monster Hunter Rise, although as of now the PC version has been released
So Deemo II is out, was ecstatic to play it.
emphasis on "was"
not up to expectations?
I certainly didn't expect battle pass and limited play on songs akin to gacha
in a rhythm game
also the gameplay is somewhat choppy.
that's a big oof
which is a shame cause if I'd be more than willing to pay for 30 - 40 bucks for a rhythm game.
here's hoping they'll release it on the switch so I can have everything....
🤞
they haven't released cytus II on switch at this stage afaik also, cuz I'm hoping for a release of that too
literally me seeing those damn bundles
I still remember that EA bundle, god I feel so bad that I missed it
At least I got the Bohemia Interactive bundle, great deal ngl
Rise lmao I'm going through smtV rn and it's ok so far
there are rumors about a FE4 remake this year
I hope they don't add an avatar or turn the FE4 castles into the 3H monastery, the time they added an avatar to a FE that didn't originally have it, it went horribly
and the 3H monastery is, out of the things modern FE has copied from Kaga, by far the worst
I hope it's made by the same team as SoV, SoV kept the game very faithful to the original while still making it much better
at this point, I'm more hyped for the Holy Sword of Silvanister remake and translation than an FE4 remake tbh, I don't expect that much from modern FE
and there is also an indie game on steam that started as an FE hack that looks pretty interesting
there's Limited Play excuse me
now I want to download it and see for myself
i just got project zomboid
i wish i had friends that had this game
trying to get them to get it
im in a good mood rn, got to play project + for the first time last night
anyone having a hard time beating meg? i just got the game
I feel like Fire Emblem is always on the cusp of being really good from a writing/setting perspective, but the writers themselves are just such big otaku (in the negative sense of the word) they can't stay out of their own way
Anyone watching the Sekiro run?
True craziness
No way he would have been done it on a normal gdq
started playing re village
its crazy how lady d is somehow always in the one doorway I need to get past
open a door? STUPID MAN THING
get out of an elevator? YOU WON'T LIVE LONG
feels like she's more omnipresent than both mr x and jack baker were in their games lol
the cool thing about getting age of calamity when its no longer the Big New Thing is i cannot look up nigh anything because it will scream spoilers at me
my main issue is there's conflicting sources on how many characters there actually is and i really don't want to 100% the game before i can make a single good weapon
it's definitely at least 19, i just unlocked a 19th
oh wait
dlc
yeah it might be 18 basegame? problem is i cannot check any source's age for fear of it yelling who i'm missing at me
including the dlc i've found 19 characters, three from dlc
have you finished the main story
no, i'm like 2 battles away, but i know the first dlc's character
oh okay
yeah there's 2 you can only unlock afterwards
base game at least
idk about the dlc
so it is 18 base, and at least 3 dlc. neato
guess i just don't get to make strong weapons yet lmao
well i can confirm its over 3 dlc
@stark kraken ive played rk on pc and its fine. ive seen more switch reports about bugs but like any game ymmv. i never said the game is a buggy mess
its not like airship syndicate and riot forge havent been patching bugs since release
Oh okay fair
You just never know with switch how quick updates really come
I guess that's improving
Wasnt it released on switch at the same time as pc?
I assume there was a beta too
this feels like the opposite of a problem
ma'am???
Now if vampires actually existed here and were like this...
True....
fates moment
from awakening onwards I pretty much lost the hope of seeing any good FE story that is not from a Kaga game remake
and after FE12, there is also the possibility that they screw up the story of a Kaga game remake
they really don't hold a candle to FFT or the Ogre series. Maybe Matsuno could be bothered to commission a script, lol
the only one of those I've played is the FFT for gba, and the tutorial got me bored so I quit, so idk about that
ewww, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on the GBA was made in a post-Matsuno world, so definitely don't judge it for that
I recommend you do look into the Tactics Ogre franchise and the original Final Fantasy Tactics, however, even if it's just videos/articles on their story. Legitimately some of the best in RPGs.
anyone who names their games after esoteric Queen songs is worth looking into
Outside of the Judge system being wack FFTA is dope
the judge system is kind of fun for a challenge but it does get super annoying when you get those red cards
ffta is a lot of fun
ffta2 is one of my favorite games, i think it has the best combat/mechanics, outside of that terrible trap mechanic
FFTA is like my only favorite JRPG and FF game lmao
The original PS FFT is super in-depth that it gets confusing for newcomers that aren’t ready to learn a lot of stuffs, it’s a game that has a FAQ inside the game itself lol. That’s normal, but, it does have that kind of steep learning curve for newcomers
I consider FFTA on the GBA to be the best as well, strikes that balance of fun, easy to learn and still be engaging. Not engaging as in hard, but with the system and all that
FFTA2 is… meh. It got a nice judge system, but it also feels superfluous on the new systems it had
FFT does have the best story though, it’s really good
Well, the thing is that I'm kind of a special case where I absolutely despise tutorials, I prefer if I just get thrown into the game and have to figure how the mechanics work and how do I have to use them myself
ffta was the perfect school game. by which i mean i played it on a gba sp during class with my sp sitting behind a book or smth and could play one handed while i did classwork
its okay to prefer the original fft over ffta but ive never understood the level of hate fft purists level at it, kinda weirdo behaviour, its just a game
i dont think its been as bad the past years as it used to be lol
FFT does have a vastly better story, I think is the main stem
But also like, why come Arithmeticians
yeah i dont disagree, ffta is kinda tactics-lite, and theres nothing inherently wrong with that. i just remember in the years after its release, and when ffta2 dropped, the like... really loud gungho fft likers made it their entire personality to let people know the handheld games were completely inferior lmao
i like them all so its whatever to me
I genuinely only skipped A2 because I saw the art of Luso with the really dumb sword, said that's a dumb sword, and didn't play it lol
Despite Marche having art with the same sword that I just didn't end up seeing
now i want pizza for some reason... again
this bird sounds like the king of all cosmos from katamari https://t.co/ZdiT0VlrUU

do any of you guys play curse of the dead gods?
I've played it. I would recommend it.
It's a lot more complex than it initially seems. It's a fully fleshed out game imo
May not be your thing but it tried hard to be a serious roguelike and it did well
FFT is great. I also loved TA2 but only played it once or twice. FFT is definitely very walled.
What is that early mission where you have archers and mages and knights as enemies?
And they just flank you from the rooftops and destroy you? That probably stops so many players.
It's also massively grindy
But you can do some fun stuff like invalidate a certain boss by double punching for 19998
I've actually only played it on mobile devices. WOTL. But I've played it a lot
I've done dark knight ramza like 3 times
Just stalling to grind all day long
FFT War of the Lions had some of the coolest script I ever seen
Hehe, I'm comparing FFT, FFTA, and FFTA2 strictly on story
Also, it was mostly in relation to Matsuno as a writer. The story for the original Tactics Ogre is really good, too, because that's heavily inspired by the Balkans War
you know thinking on ffta's story i did like it when i played it but looking back at it the brother is pretty unfortunate
WRONG GAME WRONG GAME-
Honestly I really like xii's story
I played zodiac age as my first switch game
Still great
Speed up option is excellent
Game feels easier actually
Red mage/knight on Ashe. So a self sufficient tank and also some of my best damage.
Only flaw is having too much to do.
Not enough gambit slots
Matsuno wrote FF XII too
I wish we had gotten his original concept where Basch is the protagonist and not Vaan, though
a lot of interesting stuff happened around the production of FF XII. Funnily enough, the exact thing happened to FF XIII, too.
Yeah lots of great potential to it. Probably my favorite grinding experience.
Making grinding remotely fun is hard
But here it becomes a game of setting up optimal farming gambits while running around a map continuing chains
Possible The Onion headline: gamer restarts boss fight for the 15th time claiming they "definitely got the pattern this time"
I also like that there isnt too much protagonist focus
It's just that vaan is the self insert, I guess.
The plot involves all of them equally
Some have bigger roles like Ashe
when i played it with my brother ||we lmao'd at the part vaan just gives away princess secret identity the empire guy||
sorry been ages now
Fair
I barely remember and I played it like 2 years ago
I didnt finish the final boss though
The end "dungeon"
I remember it being very boring
I'm in ||midlight's deep||
Pots are easier to kill than ever
This game was just so much harder when damage was capped to 9999
I played NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered on the Switch recently and I gotta say, sometimes, I do want a more powerful Switch
I was messing around with photo mode in the game and I just can’t get good view shots because the background… just looks blurry
I can cover it up and turn on motion blur (motion blur does make it look better, both aesthetically and to cover up the blurry look of it), but I do want to take a beautiful scenery shot with just my car on the side
i wouldnt mind paying a bit more for the switch to compete with at least 8th gen consoles
i want multiplats to look nice you know
ninty's never been big on graphically competing with other consoles of the same gen
Should be, missing out on lots of multiplat sales
Got my first BC in dead cells lets goo
For anyone who played Transistor, Control or is interested in video games as an art form in general, I very highly recommend NaissanceE (https://store.steampowered.com/app/265690/NaissanceE/). It's been made F2P some time ago and it's probably the most important game I ever played. It has little gameplay but the most impressive level of architecture, lighting, and the most considered animations I've ever seen. Sometimes it feels like you're walking through the processed version of Cloudbank
NaissanceE is an obscure and magical first person exploration game, a philosophical trip and an artistic experience. The adventure takes place in a primitive mysterious structure and the game mainly consists to explore and feel the deep and strong ambiance of this atemporal world but platforming and puzzles areas will also enrich the experience.T...

people don't buy nintendo consoles for multiplatform games though? ninty has never had to be concerned about multiplatform games bc they know their primary audience is people who specifically want nintendo games
when i still had consoles i had ninty for ninty specific titles and i had playstation for everything else. a lot of people are like that
don't think they're worried about competing for multiplatform sales when they can just pump out another pokemon game
that sucks though
why does it have to be this way, i think nintendo customers deserve more powerful systems
because this is the way.
it's def made them complacent over the years lmao
well at least it works alright for a mario kart machine
I more want better hardware for solid looking/running exclusives
Multiplats I'll just play on my computer but it'd be nice to play stuff like BotW or Age of Calamity at stable framerates
i guess but some people just have the switch you know
it'd be nice if spiritfarer could play without crashing, it takes up too much memory on the switch and will crash of you play for too long 😢
bruh
thaaaaat has to be illegal in countries with slightly friendly consumer laws right?
steam deck?
still hasnt been delivered sadly
I mean, Nintendo tried exactly that (a powerful system to get multiplatform games) with the GameCube, and we all saw how that wound up.
Granted, the mini-disc was a part of that; but Nintendo has no reason to sink the absurd amount of money into graphics and processing power that Sony and Microsoft do. Nintendo has their niche and it works.
Tbh, I’m glad Steam Deck is a real thing, it’s a powerful gaming handheld made by a company with a gaming platform.
When I bought my Switch, I don’t buy it for Nintendo exclusives, I buy it for the impossible ports. To this day, I still haven’t played even one of those Nintendo exclusives (besides demos, I forgot I’ve played the Metroid Dread demo lmao). Understandably, I’m in the minority, yeah, but the dream of a powerful handheld remains to be seen back then. The Switch, while pretty powerful for a handheld, was still not enough, at least for that small niche within it’s community that wants a more powerful handheld
Steam Deck is the dream though, it isn’t the first of these PC gaming handhelds but it is definitely the the first one made by a big company that has a platform of their own, meaning they can really push their price down
Not as low as they really want, I guess, since even the cheapest, $400 model came with a undesirably slow and small storage
As we extend the joy and community of gaming to everyone, we are incredibly excited to welcome the fantastic teams and iconic franchises of Activision Blizzard to Team Xbox https://t.co/DVrgYS8ssB

Is this for real???
Can confirm
But I also have bad news (for now)
Bobby is still the CEO of Blizzard
That's bad right?
The crossover
Oh they got bought out its not a crossover or whatever
candy crush????
Good thing: hopefully it means Kotik gets kicked out in 2023 when the deal finalized.
Bad thing: Microsoft is becoming more and more a monopoly and that's scary.
Oh wait nvm. Hopefully Kotick is kept or otherwise he is going to get paid on leave.
https://twitter.com/gamesbizuk/status/1483435864378290179
Does this mean the big bastard isn't going to influence future games as much as before?
That’s big news. Never would I think ActiBlizz is going to be bought-out, ever
When Microsoft bought-out ZeniMax, the deal was $7b something
This deal here is somewhat $68.7b
But, concerns for anti-trust monopoly is also very high now
Wait so Phil Spencer is now the new Blizzard CEO?
Looks like we are getting Chief in WoW
Well done lads, no more sexism in workplace
an aspiring games industry monopoly is buying the only major video game developer whose workforce has publicly indicated intentions to unionize. seems like this might end poorly!

oh god the replies to that phil spencer tweets are so melodramatic good god
they be treating it like it's borderlands' hyperion lmfao
I genuinely got no idea if Microsoft even did an EA and eat up any company
no experience with borderlands so the comparison does not hit to me but there's nothing wrong with people being concerned about a monopoly
hyperion is basically le big evil company in the second game
also yes it does have a monopoly on operating systems at least but to be fair this is activision we are talking about who does this affect
im sure they wont make COD an xbox exclusive lol
(would be funny though)
was literally just about to type smth about cod lmao braincell sharing moment
unironically activision is only known for cod at this point
oh gosh the facial cringe im getting from those replies, swear to god it's like uhhhhh insert other pop culture le evil corpo name
Bruh the only other platform that has these games mostly is just PS with COD
Enough twitter for this week
have they not yet learned that more money and resources does not automatically lead to good products
i mean, we are yet to see what bethesda has in store
we'll get a taste of what microsoft funding is like in this november
which is when starfield releases
then december for stalker 2
please be good please be good
if they properly revive WC3 I will cry
that would be pretty cool
Doubt it will end with more games exclusive to Xbox, the console war seem to be non-existent thing at this point.
But surely scary Microsoft has expended it's monopoly. Don't know if it is possible for them to expend any further, hopefully not, but who knows. At the time it sure didn't seem like Bethesda would be be acquired and here we are.
microsoft is like the only huge publishing brand that actually remembers about the RTS genre
age of empires and halo wars
so yeah there might be a chance for a new WC or some remaster/remake
I'm still not sure how much spending my childhood in WC3 helped me like Hades so much
since it's the same vibe of beating up cartoony monsters
they need to just fix reforged
absolutely ridiculous people got locked out of legacy version because of an inferior product they ditched
i think they ditched anyway i don't remember hearing about any patches lately outside of the few when it released
haven't really looked bc i was too mad about it lol
still amazes me how sc remastered was good and wc3 failed so spectacularly
they just didn't want to put money into it, or so I've heard
Drastically cut budget
David "DesignerDave" Fried continues to answer questions Warcraft III fans have sent in about his experience working for Blizzard nearly 20 years ago. Why did Reforged bomb so bad? What was working at Blizzard really like? How can you become a good game designer? Dave answers all these questions and more in this video!
Make sure to like and sha...
some interesting stuff at 11.27 onwards
this is an ex dev who designed a few levels on original WC3
yeah I've heard development was. well troubled is a bit of an understatement, it's still just so wild
microsoft is mostly buying up the big franchises it seems
from western based developers
kinda glad i mostly play indie titles these days
still, i really don't like microsoft buying all these giants. there's genuine risk for a monopoly
Check out the first 15 minutes of gameplay from Have a Nice Death, the upcoming roguelike action sidescroller for PC (via Steam and the Steam Deck) that was unveiled at The Game Awards 2021. It will be available in Steam Early Access on March 8 for $14.99.
#IGN #Gaming #HaveANiceDeath
looks pretty fast paced
same people who whine when playstation games are ported to pc
lol
oooh i was interested in this one
Nuuuuuu my third person gamerino got porteeeeed
Unironically cant see what's so special about GoW
a lot of edgy dudes got attached to the earlier games
i see the superhero potential like master chief but i dont see anything that groundbreaking
the older games seem more fun
WSJ reporting: "Bobby Kotick, Activision's longtime CEO, is expected to leave after the deal closes, according to people familiar with those plans." https://t.co/XK6o7wEyW2

LETS GOOOOOO
yeah but he's not being fired
THANK YOU
i feel like i was the only person not seeing what was so great about that game
he's going to get a golden parachute and go about his life with next to no consequences
like yeah absolutely getting kotick out is Good but he's not getting fired
i mostly found Kratos very unlikeable and unrelatable. gave the game several hours to see if that would change, but nope
i think it's the cool protagonist factor it has, kinda the master chief of sony
speaking of which it has to be illegal how safe halo infinite played it god damn
B.J. Blazkowicz to me is the cool protagonist type jklsdfj same with Doom guy
but i guess that's just a personal thing
'roid core protagonists, i totally get it
i never played the og god of war games, never rly liked what i saw of them, the misogyny gave it a bad taste
b-b-but it had naked booba!
how could you not like a game for booba?
ok im joking right now, i gotta play it safe lmfao
So
Erm
Microsoft just bought Activision Blizzard
Likely all Blizz titles will appear on XB gamepass
Not sure how to feel about this development
It took MS $60+ Billions btw, insane
phil just went to natya like "hey man can i have 60 billion" and natya's prob like "sure bro"
World of Warcraft is now a... Microsoft game.
when u run all your own studios into the ground all you can do is buy new ones i guess
To be fair for Rare I gotta agree on that
I just want a new Conker game not some artsy stuff 😭
lmao dead cells devs put out a tweet asking for accessibility suggestions and a bunch of gamer bros are in the comments getting mad at anyone who mentions having an optional easier mode
idk why people get all huffy and elitist about easier options, no ones forcing you to use them
it's not like the devs are going to break into their home and be like "use easy mode or you're never allowed to play again"
As a sado-masochist gamer I just like everyone experiencing the same pain as me 😎
i think it's an ego thing.
hard games usually attract a portion of players who defines their achievement and worth through the game.
if the game is suddenly more accessible and easier, they "lose" their worth because the club is not exclusive anymore.
i've often heard that the souls games are so good because of their difficulty and the whole overcoming odds thing
i do think the challenge is essential for the enjoyment with these games, but what is a challenge is different for everyone i think
i don't see myself as special for having beaten these games, but it often is the central point of what makes you feel good about playing the game
then again, from software has always let you grind to gain levels and you could always summon other people to help you out if you had trouble, but gamer bros tend to forget about that or won't admit it
beating dark souls with help from others is just as valid as beating it fighting everything by yourself
as someone who likes soloing the bosses, i extra support people who summon others because then i get souls and i get to help them and both of those are good things, so really it's arguably more beneficial to everyone to summon help.
sorry, gamer bros. friendship good.
Summoning is also the best way to replay specific bosses
The game does encourage summoning tho. As you help each other
You get an easier time they get cool weaponry
They're not really hard in the sense that there arent real permanent consequences. Not to dismiss anyone. The point of the game is to repeat one boss like 30 times, dying every time, and then it's easy in NG+
Everyone starting off will die a few times. Especially if its your first time playing a game in the series since they share mechanics .
The game also doesnt give much for hints on where to go or even what to do
Just the core plot points.
I like summoning/being summoned and I like PVP. Both are part of the experience.
To a certain degree you should dread certain characters that hunt in an area.
It adds so much to the game
Otherwise it's just AI enemies, PVP at least potentially can produce a lot of natural growth and world building.
Summoning too of course. Both are part of the game.
Should you solo stuff if you can? Sure. But like at O&S you should just summon a real person, not Solaire alone, just to even the odds.
There are a few situations where NPC summons are actually bad in DS1. Four Kings for example. She doesnt do enough and they scale too hard off of it.
I really do find the PVP meta in DS1 to be toxic though
It limits the kind of characters that would naturally spawn in these areas
Other players. They get annoyed by the chaos/99 humanity backstabbers.
And those backstabbers are all that thrive, making pvp just ridiculously challenging instead of somewhat fair.
has anyone played disco elysium on the switch? i want to play the game but i read that the switch loading times were horrendous

The first time I’ve seen people care about ActiBlizz games on other platforms
At this point, the only multiplatform game that ActiBlizz has that people care about is CoD. Everything else, thrives on PC only
As if they will take away CoD only for themselves
@winter mica load times are bad and it crashes a lot
The age-old “soulsborne should be how the entire gaming industry is” argument
I remembered GMTK made a video championing an assist mode for hard games just for better accessibility and the comment sections are just filled by people who keeps saying “Dark Souls is hard because they game forces you to be good at it, and if you put an easy mode on it, it’ll be bad”
That’s fair, but then the conversations always degenerates to how every other modern games now are bad because of easy gameplay
As if old games didn't have built in cheat codes to cheese story mode (and even PVP sometimes)
i age so much every time i see someone insist a game being hard just for the sake of being hard is good and adding any difficulty modifiers for anyone else's benefit cheapens it some how. literally dont play the easier difficulty if it bothers you so much
"games should be hard because i like when theyre difficult and hard to master" good for you, not all of us play games to prove a point, whatever that point may be
more power to you if you enjoy hard difficulties, im happy for you, gatekeeping other people because it makes you upset people with less skill than you can enjoy your cool thing is super lame of you, however
it should be noted i am not ranting about souls games but people who make a huge debacle about difficulty in games in general because boy are there a lot
One of the big point of their argument was “not all games are for everyone”, that’s fair, we can all understand that, but they also said the gaming industry should ditch this “more accessible games for everyone to be able to enjoy” and just make every game that has action elements a soulsborne game
Uh-huh, are you trying to say people who aren’t that skillful in games should just be playing baby alphabet games only now, since you’ve also said not every game is for everyone? Lol
another reason why Hades is one of the best, is that it included God Mode for peasants like me who don't git gud
accessibility is good
I hate all those gatekeeper gamer bros
Glad we all seem to be on the same page
Also anyone who thinks Dark Souls is good because it's challenging doesn't understand why it's good lol
I've basically come around to the idea that I'm not going to admonish a game for not having difficulty options, because I do sort of agree that a game should be allowed to be hard for the sake of it, but those options will 100% always make a game better
Specifically difficulty options and not accessibility options, which should be present and numerous in every title with zero excuses
Metroid
Demon's Souls is still my favorite soulsborn, lol
Dark Souls is hard because it's an intrinsic part of the narrative
It's a storytelling element
It's different from challenge games who are just hard for the sake of being hard, in that the narrative's stakes and scope are reinforced by the difficulty of progression.
An arduous test of mettle, ye...
An easy mode would, in turn, not only hurt the gameplay, but the story
I guess coming from DeS, Dark Souls just felt artificially hard. Like the studio was going, "Ha! Get past that!" just for the sake of making it hard. DeS felt a bit different. But that's also just my opinion.
Speaking of hard games, Arma 3 AI shooting through foliage and players cant see through foliage 👍
Once I get home I swear Im playing another operation on that jungle map
Also the AI in early access Ready or Not, literally shooting through doors. I swear this game is literally like Hotline Miami, LOTS of trial and error and room clearing and methodical execution
exactly
the difficulty is infused in the narrative, it's not hard for the sake of being hard
but like, if an easy mode IS implemented it's not hurting anyone who does want that experience.
loading times are longer but I've seen worse, personally. what's annoying is mostly the frequent crashes and a few annoying bugs that haven't been fixed yet that affect the gameplay
It kinda would
It would affect PvP
And that would, in turn, affect the story, as Covenants and multi-player are part of the story
And what would happen to Easy Mode players if they get invaded?
They're
That would give the normal mode players an unfair advantage over easy mode players, and effectively segment the playerbase
And, bear in mind, certain sidequests require either PvP or hours of farming to actually get specific outcomes
Premier example being Solaire
man, AGDQ for I am bread is pretty wild
"Get up to 37% OFF your Displates here: https://displate.com/theactman/displates?art=5f1a04cfccdfd
The debate has waged across Twitter and internet forums. But no, Dark Souls should NOT have an Easy Mode. No From Software title would be better off WITH one. They already have ways to make them easier. People that continue to ask for an easy mode...
oh boi, it's that time again
a new souls game comes out and everyone brings this dead horse out
Sadly
is this just half an hour of "YOU NEED TO BE IN ACTUAL PHYSICAL PAIN TO BE WORTHY OF ENJOYING THE EXPERIENCE"?
I'm four minutes in and this is pretty much the jist
(personally my stance is that while devs shouldn't be under the obligation to put in difficulty settings, nothing is lost by adding them as long as it's clear what the intended experience is supposed to be)
Finish the video
||Because Act Man says the exact same thing and even provides the recorded statements of both Miyazaki and Bluepoint Games||
||well, glad we're all on the same boat||
looks like our good ol' pal Bobby Kotick is getting $375 million once the buyout from Microsoft finalizes
they expect him to leave afterwards, so he gets a golden ticket alongside that 375m probably
bro.....with that money he can like get me a full option Mazda MX-5 2022
and still have lots left
apparently that 375 million is the price of the stock Microsoft will be taking over from him
or one randomly generated image of an ape
But a miata is cooler!
sorry if I came off a bit rude. it's a subject that often rubs me the wrong way.
mostly because there is often no nuance to the discussion, just either/or
I think people should move on from easy mode dark souls to making fair difficulties actually exist
because most cases it's just higher hitpoints
Fair difficulty for me, in shooters at least, is you die from few shots but so do enemies. Such is Metro series Ranger difficulty, and any mildim
to bring an example, I'm currently playing jedi: Fallen Order
Good game, fun game.
I do not like how it handles difficulty settings even if it does some things better than other games.
I like that it shows me what the setting actually affects
but I don't like that I can only switch between default states
like, I enjoy the input window for parries and the enemy aggression, but struggle keeping up my concentration during fights against bosses with a lot of health
but setting it easier affects all those factors
I like how Pathologic 2 and Darkest Dungeon handle it
The sliders are independent of each other, and default difficulty settings tell you how the sliders are affected
Pathologic 2 managed to hit 2 birds with one stone with their sliders
Since they were getting people saying their game should be easier and some say the other
I still have that one on my docket
I got it as a Christmas gift
I like playing Wasteland 3 on hard difficulty, it's more realistic and I like struggling in post apoc games
I hope there's a one shot difficulty coming to Stalker 2
well, stalkers difficulty is
...interesting
Also you people have to try Stalker Anomaly, it's a free standalone Stalker mod that had a game mode where if you die you respawn as a random NPC
I like Stalker's difficulty
Stalker bandits are scary good god
I modded FO4 to be similar (everyone dies in only a couple of shots, even you)
I gotta try that since I have it installed
stalker might actually be easier on hard mode
For me
My difficulty
I like everything being equal-ish
Like, with XCOM 2
My soldiers are the best, borderline superhuman
I played so many low ttk games that I got so cautious. Hotline Miami, Arma 3, Ground Branch, Ready or Not, EFT (at a friends) Ghostrunnet etc.
But the enemies are smarter, way stronger, way more varied and come in DOZENS
Like, the average killcount for my XCOM2 missions sit at 20-40
I can't do hotline miami, but I appreciate what that game does
I like Hotline Miami, even though I'm not that good at it
also I feel even if that game gets too difficult for you at some point, you get what it's about fairly quickly
I feel like games with a high base or set difficulty feel better if death isn't a major setback
Hlm is cool
2 was super hard tho
Are there any curse of the dead gods enjoyers here?
the name is familiar
It’s another rogue, imagine mashing hades, deadcells and darksouls togethet
I play Darkest Dungeon a lot. Made the heroes potentially stronger, but added a lot of strong enemies
I am genuinely vexed
Dark Souls isn't for everyone; never was, never will be. And that's good.
Games like FF13 and FO76 show what happens when games stretch themselves for mass-market appeal
sure, but there is room for a middle ground
But I will admit that Dark Souls has an accessibility issue.
The PC ports are buggy, and they use XBOX controller prompts
Darkest dungeon looks sick but the gameplay isnt for me
then again, implementing well balanced difficulty settings is a lot of extra dev time
Get kek’d lmao
So part of the experience is pressing every button to figure out what does what
And that's fine!
HM2 was harder because of the open level design, the hawaii levels were great but an tumour and a half to complete
I think the issue with fallout 4 and 76 has more to do with ultimately giving less options than 1. 2 and new vegas though
that's the bad kind of accessibility, because it affects everyone
DS isn't just difficulty because of enemies, there's also level design to take into account
yes
How would Sen's Funhouse be handled?
Blighttown?
The Gutter?
Iron Keep?
Profaned Capital?
You can nerf the enemies as much as you want, but that won't mean squat to the deathtraps and the platforming
that said, if I was able to tweak health/damage-ratios in that game a bit, that's all I'd really need
Dark souls 💤
Sekiro
I'm fine with learning an enemy's attack patterns. That's fun. But I don't want to repeat the same actions ten times to whittle down an enemy's health bar
I just don't have the focus for that.

What about offshoots of the Ring of Calamity
Which makes you take and deal a bit more damage
I mean, Dark Souls 1: Artorias of the Abyss added that thing
Which makes you take double damage
as you can imagine I never got far enough into dark souls to get that thing
It'd still be Dark Souls-punishing to tweak everyone's damage up, but makes things faster
Of course, if you get caught out by smart invaders COUGH Camouflage COUGH
welp
You're as dead with the ring as without it
Tbh, I don’t think people really do want an easier soulsborne, the people that wants an easier soulsborne probably doesn’t even understand why soulsborne are difficult in the first place, or what the soulsborne genre really is in the first place
Yeah
The Soulsborne games aren't for them, but rather than accept that, they try to parrot the idea that it needs an Easy Mode or that it's not accessible
Discounting why the games are as popular as they are or their built-in options for easing the player in
I don't quite share that sentiment, but personally I wouldn't know an easy way to fix this
also I have only played a bit into the first one, so in regards to dark souls I can't say a lot
It's not as easy as just slapping an EASY MODE
Because there's a lot of questions as to what constitutes an Easy Mode
Well, that's up to the developers
yes
And it's been mentioned before, I think
But Miyazaki has gone on record saying that he wanted everyone to have the same experience, hence no difficulty options
Bluepoint then went on-record to echo the sentiment
I wouldn't say that leads to the same experience for everyone, but that might turn into arguing semantics, and that doesn't really help
I still think hades is amazing in that way. it is not an easy game, but the more you fail, the more options you unlock to tweak the difficulty a bit.
it's difficulty in a way that's responsive to the player
but it also leaves it up to the player if they want to opt in
darkest dungeon is great anyway in terms of settings
I like that you can enable mods on specific saveslots
so I have one for the intended experience and one that's basically my mod lab
Agreed
also maybe one conclusive thought: as much as I didn't enjoy it, I never felt that Dark Souls' difficulty is unfair
it's no metal slug

(metal slug is rad as hell, don't get me wrong, but I'll never be able to play that one without infinite coins)
It would be a very easy sell to just disable invasions and PvP when in Easy Mode
Like, as long as there's an intended difficulty, adding more options won't ever hurt
something i've heard, don't know if this could be used in darksouls, but a full story mode. the player doesn't have to fight bosses and possibly any enemies but gets explore the world and do non-fighting side quests (if available) and complete the whole cinematic story that way.
That would work for some games, but not all
I don't think that would work for Dark Souls, personally
And what about the covenants?
What happens to the ones that specifically need PvP?
You don't get to do those?
The circles of people interested in Dark Souls PvP and people who want an Easy Mode probably don't overlap
Or, like DS2, just have the covenant items drop from enemies
To me, a DS Easy Mode would disable PvP, and reduce enemy damage and health. No more, no less. Timings remain the same so they're still satisfying to execute, but less punishment on mistakes and less time investment on repeating patterns
Then, since all the changes are enemy-side, co-op still works
And what about the parts of the story reliant on the Covenants?
Chaos Servant rank unlocks the shortcut to Lost Izalith, which you need to have done to save Solaire.
What then?
Notice you're taking stuff out, not putting stuff in.
Chaos Servant doesn't need PvP?
Further, that's part of the whole "intended play" thing. Players who want an Easy Mode generally don't care about losing out on PvP. Hell, I wouldn't even care, invasions are the worst thing about the franchise bar-none
Except maybe how obtuse game mechanics are
The only one that needs specifically kills is Forest Hunters, and all that grants is upgrade materials and the Ring of Fog, which you can just give to Shiva of the East to sell
Like, yeah going back and adding difficulty options to the game as it is now would be difficult without compromises, but I believe we're all talking about something being designed with them in mind to begin with
Well, sure. That's fine, as long as it doesn't compromise the artistic vision that the developers set out to realise.
And again. What about the level design?
What about it?
Also, the whole crux of the idea is that difficulty options will never compromise any artistic vision as long as the intended play experience is made clear
If you're making an easy more with only reduced enemy damage and health, Sen's Fortress would barely be affected.
Same with several sections of Anor Londo, Shrine of Amana, Earthen Keep, etc, because the main difficulty factor in those levels are the levels themselves.
Then have the traps do less damage too
Uh, not the traps themselves that kill you in those levels.
just make it so fall damage takes a portion of your health and you respawn on the ledge next to where you fell, like most games do. every problem solved
It's almost like designing difficulty settings to work with a game isn't easy, especially a decade after the game is out
None of this changes that the game would not be worse if they were there in the first place
Or y'know what? Sure, blanket drop player damage taken and make it world specific, if we're living in "part of the original game" land
i've only played ds1 (haven't finished it quite yet) but idk how a story mode would even work given that there's barely a story in the first place
optional item descriptions are not story they're lore
I mean, ignoring the fact that the repeated deaths is part of the story
That the difficulty is intended to part of the narrative, as explicitly stated by multiple key NPCs like Gywnevere, Shanalotte
That strength through adversity is such a key part of the structure that one of the most important NPCs in II all but states it out loud
That the fact that the player is going up against physical gods in spite of being a (mostly)normal human is repeatedly pointed out
That some of the bosses are literal legends
Yeah, sure. Easy mode.
Totally wouldn't hit the story.
It absolutely wouldn't, considering the easy mode isn't the intended play experience
Again, the whole crux of the issue is that the addition of difficulty selection doesn't take away from the intended experience and you've failed to provide any reasonable concern that it would
If you want the game as intended, don't play on Easy
The only loss is that the phrase "I beat Dark Souls" loses an amount of swaying power, and on that I say good
I'm sincerely confused by the contradictory nature of your statement.
The difficulty option being present does not hurt the intended experience of the game, because it isn't the intended experience of the game
The intended experience being the normal difficulty
The easy difficulty is probably a worse experience overall, especially for you or me who don't have issues playing the game, but someone who needs the option there to even progress likely won't have the same issue
The addition of it doesn't take away from people who wouldn't use it, is what I mean to say
Ok, so give people a butchered, lesser experience.
Actively ruin the the impetus of the product simply to cater to a niche that can't be bothered to even consider that maybe, just maybe, the game isn't for them.
And what of the resources needed to implement all the changes?
Developers need to make all that happen, it's not just going to pop up out of nowhere.
Assuming they or the publisher want make those changes happen in the first place.
What if someone on Easy Mode wanted to duel a friend on Normal Mode? If you turn off PvP, then the person on Normal Mode is missing out on something.
Something's being taken away from them.
I still don't agree with the idea that it would butcher the experience. Easier for you or me might just bring it up to the same level for someone else. And that's why I've moved to saying it's not a mark against it to not have it, but having the option would be better.
Development time is a concern but honestly that depends on the extent of the changes.
Then figure out ahead of time whether you want to disable PvP outright or add some kind of lobby system that can account for that
Or, just tell the player hey, if you want to play PvP, don't play on Easy
They're not missing out on much
Especially if that drives them to go "oh man, I like this game and I understand how to play it now, maybe I'll play it again on Normal so I can do that PvP thing"
To be clear, you mean the player's time, correct?
If so, I fail to see how asking someone to beat their head against something they can't do is any different
from looking roughly over this, I think we were here before
What you're suggesting is akin to giving someone scraps, then have them move on to the full course, in spite of the fact that the full course is already there for them.
-I acknowledge your point about Chaos Servants not requiring PvP to progress, but also would like to point out that the alternative is repetitive tedium.
-Making the transition from Easy to Normal would then entail having to adjust for the increased difficulty while learning the additional mechanics of PvP. Normal mode does this too, but Easy-Normal transition would do it after habits have already begun forming or have already formed.
there are ways to integrate difficulty options into the soulsborne games without losing anything, but if fromsoft don't feel like they have the means or enthusiasm to implement it in a satisfying way, then it's fine too.
no options is better than half-hearted efforts
What habits would you form in Easy that wouldn't work in Normal, in this case?
Also yeah, a long time ago I moved my stance to something similar to that. If you don't want to add the options, or don't feel you can, I'm not going to knock points off in my head, but them being present are always going to add points
Trades are less worthwhile, and going all-in is riskier due to higher damage and HP, respectively.
Some people prefer being human as much as possible, which won't fly if PvP is live.
So an adjustment learned from the tutorial
And a reasonable adjustment that doesn't really require any playstyle changes
Look I'd love to go around for another hour on this but it's pretty clear we don't see eye to eye on what constitutes "ruining an experience" and I've got things to do
Thanks for the migraine.
Must be nice contradicting yourself constantly.
Whatever helps you sleep at night :p
Didn't know we were escalating to insults in what was a done discussion, but go off
Though sorry for adding into the conversation at its end, but I feel like it never was stated what the "intended experience" is. What I understand it such is the way the game was meant to play and on what difficulty option the developer intended for everyone or most to play on, it's not uncommon to see "this is intended way of playing for the first playthough, however you can always change difficulty". So in case if the player is not having fun with the game the way intended to play, they may have to or give up on it or switch to difficulty they feel comfortable playing. And in such I feel to ask, if the intended way is not the path, is experiencing the game a different manner would ruin their playtime?
I guess it would mostly come up in the discourse
Solution: Goth women.
which is boned anyway
I guess the closest is that players may miss out on the subtler parts of the game. but tbh, where do you draw the line there?
like, is being uninterested in exploration also not playing as intended?
if you just want to murder everyone you meet, is that playing as intended?
what confuses me is that why are people trying to play a game whose almost entire selling point is its challenge and difficulty and then being sad that its challenging and difficult
even ignoring my personal opinion that dark souls has a lot of fake difficulty through some janky awful mechanics
I mean, why do people want to play a game with a cult-like status?
to know what the hell is up with it
and to get an idea themselves
you can't escape the souls games in current gaming discourse
I think about it more so, as way of safe-net in case the intended difficulty couldn't fit for player who wished to play the game the intended way, but couldn't overcome the challenges. I think more also in point of what the player will do afterwards they couldn't beat the game and experience for themselves. What does it make of their purchase? It would be a bit of a bummer in such case and sort of having to face the fact the game was not for them and also that there is no way of experiencing the game more, but to watch someone play it, which would have been free otherwise. Having a safenet sort of allows for players to not feel as much pressure for the purchase in case things really didn't look all too well.
Anecdotal example. A friend gifted me Unsighted. I felt like I really wanted to play it, gameplay looked fun and so was the premise, but as soon as I got to point of where death clocks, for every character, were running I felt all the motivation to play the game go away and I am really thankful for considerate option to turn those clocks off, since otherwise I doubt I could experience, the gifted game to me, which otherwise would have went to waste.
what of games like roguelikes then
with the exception of a select few the majority of them don't have difficulty options either but I've never seen people clamoring for them to become easier
(for the record I'm not one of those "games must make me hate myself" types I just find the discussion around souls games specifically odd)
or something like super meat boy
I do feel a lot of it is the core appeal
i can lol
with meat boy the appeal is immediately apparent when you see a single snippet of footage
also there is not a lot of variety in the outcome
you either beat the level or you're paste
souls games do have a lot of mainstream appeal through their aesthetics, do engage discussion over their contents and there's a lot more room for experimentation
but dark souls isn't?
idk how someone would hear and know of dark souls and not also the fact that it is an infamously challenging game
heck ds1 was even called "prepare to die" idk how much clearer it could have been made
because marketing blurbs have always been believable
lol
I think about all of games can use a bit of assist modes or ways to play differently. And I see those assist challenges not to make things easier in way it's not engaging, but levelling people who find it very difficult to the average that thinks it is difficult.
maybe all games should just have the darkest dungeon disclaimer at the start 🤔
And even then Darkest Dungeon got an easier mode!
radiant's not even easier, just shorter
and darkest dungeon is still fine
all radiant does is reduce the grind in late game everything's still the same difficulty wise
are there I honestly forgot
eris posted a screenshot earlier
oh right
lol i forgot you could disable corpses
idk why you would
because they're annoying lumps?
idunno, I don't mind them personally
but I think it has to do with some people who preferred the version without them during early access
Must be nice just sitting around and slinging personal insults
two of the biggest PVP games I know of their time, warcraft 3 and Age of Empires 2 both have built in cheat codes for stuff ranging from unlimited resources, one-hitting all enemies, to an auto win button for story missions. Never hurt the PVP scene
If someone uses the easy mode for story missions, they know full well that they can't jump into PVP that way
Plus, if someone gets into the game mechanics through an easier experience, they might end up finding it enjoyable enough, to start getting into higher difficulties
I shall play some borderlands 1 when I get home. Wish looter shooters had a feature to match the levels between players somehow
it sucks playing with an overleveled player
- they either cheese through anything and dont leave you anything
- you get absolutely destroyed by any enemy left by the player
One of a few good things 3 implemented
mechanics wise 3 is actually really good imo
shame about the uh
entire rest of the game
I'm playing ds3 real quick to prepare myself real quick to ER
Waking up my reflexes so to speak
@wintry heart FFVII Remake is my favorite game ever. But you should play the original first tbh.
I doubt I will play the original. More like does the remake have the same magic given it’s a cold experience for me
no real context except sephiroth kills the girl in your avatar I think but idk if that’s arieth or aries
Im more interested in ps5 games than ps2
But will not playing it ruin my experience
Wait was it ps2 or ps1
Please say ps2 so I feel like less of a dinosaur
If you ping me again just to bring that up, I will probably block you.
…okay? I was just asking the question and sharing the context I knew
I’m unclear on what upset you
I love video games
Same.
I should go back to FF7 someday
only played an hour and already want Barrett to be the main character instead of emo blonde
Aerith is the main character, obviously.

This is my experience in the first fifteen minutes I just played
Angsty protagonists meh
I wanted to ship Dionysus, not than
look, we are already in Greek myth land please let me marry my cousin who is sometimes me anyway
Cloud is a much better character than he comes off as at first
Or at least, much more interesting
It's a lot easier to tell what his deal is supposed to be in the remake
Y'know, because body language and everything
Yeah
I will not allow Cloud slander.
Isn’t that his character though? To be kind of aggressive and sassy in the early game?
I’d believe it. Idk, from my 20 minutes of playtime I want Barrett to be the main character
They gave Barrett very pretty eyes in the remake
(all the decent gifs on the keyboard are from the ending)
i "legally bought" the game a few hours ago and i'm looking forward to playing it in a bit, i want to be interested in pokemon but sw&sh was just not it. i've avoided the leaks so i can form my own opinion but that gif worries me
im just extremely sad about the starters, honestly some of my fav starters, having final evos i think are a bit underwhelming
maybe they'll grow on me but first impression is just :/
Wait they have different final evos than previous games???
they have hisuian forms
CentroLeaks on twitter has a pinned tweet of new pokemon/forms. not linking it so you'll only see it if you deliberately go and look
||That Dialga has that "Squidward with a fork stuck in his throat" energy to it.||
oh dear gods
||and OverQwil is literally those urchin enemies in super mario||
How do we even know it's real anyway
its datamined
scroll through their account
pory_leeks is another that is rting a lot of game clips ||you will see a video of that qwilfish in one, so its real||
crashes on startup so idk
The designs grew on me a bit but I'm kinda meh on a lot of them
I'm hearing the gameplay is good from people, so that's good
the ||sneasel evo|| is so uncanny to me... pokemon slenderman
And the frame rate appears stable
the designs for the new forms and Pokemon are straight booty
like, badbad
||I like hisuian zorua and zoroark...,,||
For most of my time with FF7Remake I really enjoyed it. There were some parts that I'm apprehensive about though.
||Like randomly during the story some swarm of ghosts appears and interrupts the flow of the narrative. This plot point culminates in the finale which halts all the built up, established plot. A random apocalypse happens and you face Sephiroth.
Their idea seems to deconstruct the original's story and say something akin to "surprise! it's an alternate universe all along!"
It just comes out of nowhere and subtle as a brick to the face, which makes me question if the parts I enjoyed will even be relevant in the sequel.||
pokemon
I wish they made ||typhlosion more like, smokey/ethereal looking? Since it's a ghost type||
Nah I stole it from the net
drug-related material isn't appropriate for the chat my friends
on the legends leaks: i have never been so glad to not get a pokemon game. some of those... things take the cake for the worst creatures i have ever seen, and i'd rather pay to never see them again than pay to put them on a team and see them all the time
We can’t talk about league of legends? :(
Salt isn't a drug tho?
Lol is just as if not more addicting than drugs
and just as bad for you
That would extend to their sister salt factories too
i heard this game is similar to hades, ill try it out and let yall know what i think https://store.steampowered.com/app/1296830/_Warm_Snow/
While the rich stinks of meat and wine, the bones of the poor litter the roadside..Great injustice often leads to strange occurrences.Snow in July can only be remedied through blood.【A Dark Tale of Sword and Snow】A strange phenomenon appeared during the 27th Year of the Longwu Era. Aren't you thinking of sugar?
that said: too much salt in processed food is an issue
anyway, videogames
they're great, aren't they
Guys, we need a new evolution for Sneasel.
How about we make it longer, and call it ... Sneasler.
if i saw that thing in a dark hallway i'd be leaving immediately
it just creeps me out a lil bit
way to go microsoft. now if you wanna use the minecraft installer you gotta be signed on the PC with the ms account that owns MC. I hate this. F you microsoft for making me log in on my sister's pc
and now that I am logging in on the minecraft launcher it just crashes. I hate this new account system so much
Hopefully updating windows works but this microsoft takeover on Mojang is finally taking it's toll on me
Sneaslest
bless you
reverse google it
I hope that is just a big or something...
Btw I will for sure skip Legend arceus, sorry
Gonna save my money for the new Kirby game
dont be sorry for doing a smart choice
I saw some of the leaked stuff.
Just gotta say ||THE REGIONAL FORMS ARE AWFUL||
That looks...like a Wii game at best
this cannot be real
can it
since the source is 4chan i'm a little sceptical but at the same time
i wouldn't be surprised if this is real
roblox water 🤤
The gameplay changes look interesting for once but I'm not a fan of a lot of the designs and yeah environment shots like that look straight trash
I mean development footage always looks bad because the lighting isn't there.
Have you seen StarCraft 2 Alpha footage?
Problem is, this is supposed to be a leak and we're awfully close to the game's release date
And I'm pretty sure there are key parts of gameplay that haven't been shown in detail...and that's a bad sign
BDSP did get a patch right before launch that fixed a lot of issues people had, so maybe it's something like that
Unsure, all I know is that it's not something I think I'll pick up until heavy discount, which is a shame because the gameplay changes are interesting
this is basically what i'm doing. if i get it, it'll be secondhand, much cheaper, and when i actually have less of a list of games to work through
Any games where the sword actually cuts and isn't a glorified bat?
Hard mode: Don't mention MGR
Bushido Blade
for a sec i thought that was roblox
Eternal Darkness lol
Let's go
Yeah I heard! Looking forward to the update. Really wanna know how things turn out.
@acoustic stone do you have a favorite PvZ entry
ngl the new lego star wars game looks hype af
it looks like trash imo
I've only played the first. Game of the Year edition.
ah cool that's the best one anyway
why whats wrong with it lol
Okay, but this slaps
https://youtu.be/YxtLqK6KYwo
SO pleased with how this came out! Everyone did an amazing job, and I'm so glad we could come together to celebrate an amazing game like this ^_^

disco elysium is so stressful because Harry is so stupid and you have to make the least stupid choice and there's not a lot of least stupid choices
I'm not a fan of all of the prebuilt stat arrays being able to die with a single failed roll
i can't think of a single time you can die in exactly one roll except the very first action of the game
you always have a small window to heal even if you're sitting at 1 health
unless i forgot one harry's full of surprises like that lol
I mean, I died from failing to identify some tracks in the mud basically right after starting
The prebuilt ones should have 2 health in each, is what I mean
I never had that problem with the sensitive prebuild
it has 5 in psy and 4 in fys I believe, so that amount in volition and endurance
i don't like star wars also no pings please ty :)
I think it's ok but nothing beats Lego Star Wars the clone wars base building mechanics
I am slowly but surely coming onto Genshin hell and I'm officially blaming my boyfriend
It's so bad that I am considering basing my undergrad thesis around Genshin and two other games
The amount of screaming I did while playing Genshin was funny...then again, there are very few times when I am not screaming while playing video games
realistic weather algorithm
sussy fog
To be fair open level games on the switch begin to have the same aesthetic as botw ngl
like rise, arceus, and kirby in a way but that one actually looks uh.....not dead?
yea, pretty bleak
i thought that was botw for a bit but just because i have spent far too long playing aoc. i have finally gotten every character. spoilers can do naught against me. time to figure out what on earth i'm doing
Fun fact, in Warframe, anything with a high enough Slash value that deals the killing blow will literally slice an enemy in two. This means your own bullets can cleave enemies in half...
Amazing but the free to play model makes me stay away from it
Thankfully it doesn't have gacha elements, but the grind is tedious
Maybe Space Marine 2 will deliver on the hack and slash
I cant wait
For some reason some of my fav games are getting sequels only this year
Stalker 2, Dying Light 2, Space Marine 2
I just want a Republic Commando sequel though...
Don't we all?
Im hopeful that can be Respawn's next project.
These guys know what they're doing.
I wouldnt be mad if that project turns out to be Titanfall 3 though
MegaMan Zero series
i just need more titans
kind titans, harsh titans, fierce titans, cute titans, nimble titans, beefy titans, faithful titans, just GIVE ME MY TITANS
sussy titans
also yes i require Titanfall lore expansions
They done put the souls roll in Pokemon 💀
i have watched the entire video and thanks to that yellow glow i still can't make out what mon that is
