...this isn't really that much fun. RQs are a huge part of the game and most online requests are in endgame/postgame dungeons that i can't reach unless i get the RQ i need
so it's more like doing 3 or 4 normal-reward requests, getting 6 gummis in about 3 hours, and only getting one RQ from them and it's a useless one.

the mechanics are all taken from a mix of the older games... like, recruit style's from RT, they have the move system from gates/super, the RQ system is brand new and a pain
how you see that is really due to personal opinion. i play a character with a nasty weakness so i don't like type immunities being brought back again, but overall there's still lots of qol.

they're two different games made by two different devs
and yet they share the same, highly specific premise (being - it's an arena FPS where you have to fight to the beat of the music)

BPM has an assist mode that basically let's you play it like any other shooter and ignore the beat and it just syncs up all animations to the beat of the music while you're doing your thing
so you might give it a shot even if you're not that good at rhythm games

so wait - capcom is changing the perspective of the game along with it's air tight controls (let's be honest here - there's no way in hell they're gonna sell a game in 2023 with tank controls - they're probably gonna do something like re2 or 3 standard TPS controls) which are crucial to RE4's unique flavor combat that hasn't been replicated ever since (even it's own sequel screwed it up)
and you're changing it's fun and fast pacing along with the characters?

I'll say that the objects you're supposed to create in the end become increasingly abstract to the point where it's hard to tell what you created even after you solve it
it's a bit frustrating since everything else is so pleasant

this does sound like a different game i played a while back
where you get a puzzle with a simple name like "home" or "work" or "a hot bowl of cold, stale spaghetti spinning in the microwave" or whatever
and then you solve a puzzle with squares and they slowly turn into an image that's somewhat related to the title
like a cute pixel art house or a hammer or a skull with bones because that hot bowl of spaghetti is pure evil

games like the final fantasies and, like, persona protags, it just feels weird because there's nothing else you can change and these are just. characters that in no way need custom names

but there's also some in-betweens? like, the pmd partners are very much huge characters with their own personality and story and whatnot, but yet you can customise them as much as you can the protag and it doesn't really feel off.

where all pieces on the board move at the same time and it's one you vs 50 other pieces
like - games like super hexagon or binding of isaac or whatever are pretty much pick up and play
sure you won't get far in your first few runs, but you don't really have to spend much time learning it
necrodancer however... it might take a while for you to switch to that bouncy, jumpy, dancy style of play
but once it finally clicks and you learn how to use and abuse different weapons and how to dance with the AI

it goes from "how do i dance from one end of the level to the other without dying" to something like
"how can i manipulate those three pieces around me, knowing their moves and their range, to be in one spot so that i could take them all out in the smallest amount of moves possible?"
and then you execute it right away in a bunch of split second moves without even thinking about the rhythm
oh yeah - so you have your default soundtrack by danny b - the same guy that made ost for super meat boy
and then there are different variation on that ost made by different artists
basically - they're the same tracks with the same beats, just different covers in different styles
and then... there's mah boi - family jules
there's one unlockable character - aria
and her deal is that she starts off with literally 1 hp and everything kills you in one hit
to make things harder, missing a single beat kills you too
and just to make things even harder... you start in literally the last zone and then go all the way back to zone 1
and all the enemies follow you
so by the time you get to zone 1 you've got enemies from all zones on your back
and just to make things EVEN harder

i mean - to be fair - it was the less crowded "custom soundtrack" category, but still
also - there's one thing that i really wish was in hades - replays
like any roguelite - there's a lot of stuff here
lot's of RNG and lots of monsters with different attack patterns and lots of different weapons with different status effects and what not
and just like in hades - the screen can get a little but cluttered
and in a game this fast it's sometimes hard to tell where exactly you made that fatal mistake that ended your run
but unlike hades, necrodancer shows you a replay of your last few seconds after you died
so that you can see right away what move killed you and what was going on and all that stuff
it really helps you with learning the game

some are basically left forever unfinished, but still sold as a full complete game
most of the times.. but sometimes there are pleasant surprises, when devs are actually doing something

EA singleplayer games are fine to buy imo. In my recent memories, Darkest Dungeon, Hades, Risk of Rain 2, and Curse of the Dead Gods all came out awesome.
EA multiplayer games, on the other hand, .... I have my doubts tbh.

it's kind of like the difference between Uncharted and The Last of Us, and they're relationships with their violent protagonists
the point of Uncharted isn't really supposed to be about how Drake killed a hyuck of a lot of people, you can think about it, but it's not the point of the story
The Last of Us highlights the violent actions of the protagonist, so now talking about it does a bit more than just, I dunno, talking about it

It got good bit of puzzles to solve, although not that many of them. If these puzzles don't interest you then there is no real reason to play the game tbh.

in fact - since it was one of the first console systems that used CDs - it was also one of the first times where games could use streamed audio formats for proper music, instead of resorting to formats interpreted in real time like midis and trackers and what not

well then - here are some soundtracks worth checking out from that time
(limited to stuff that sounds cd-audio quality red book standard)
there's ridge racer type 4, highly underrated ace combat 3, mgs1 has some cool tracks that wouldn't be possible in midis and trackers, you've got your rhythm games like parappa the rapper or whatever, rollcage stage 2 if you're looking for some JSR vibes and so on
i mean - hell - even the entire quake 2 soundtrack made it into that janky ps1 port without any compromises
and there's many, many more
so it's not all beeps and boops - there's some great stuff there

Then again, if we’re talking about retro consoles and their soundtracks, my newfound passion is still on the midis and such

oh don't get me wrong - i like me some good midis and module trackers
(i mean - hell - i play doom almost daily and 90% of community levels still use awesome midis and a lot of folks still make them to this day ||like the absolute mad lad and living legend - james paddock - look him up || )
but i feel like the ps1 might've been the biggest leap in audio quality we've seen in the console world
like - suddenly we had way, waaaaay more games with a lot of voiceacting, awesome music (sometimes even licenced stuff), and cool sequences like prerendered cutscenes that transition to gameplay with the same track going over both of those scenes without missing a beat
and all that good stuff
which is... basically what most games are still doing to this day
