Yeah that's a no from me, it's definitely a true roguelike where it's just a gameplay loop simply because you enjoy it not character interaction or story progression. i did only play about 5 minutes but it did not enjoy it as much I do when i play Hades. Hades has captivated me in such a strange way i can't describe it.

@tame veldt @cosmic pasture I endorse this as well. I started out with binding of isaac and LOVE it. Isaac has many hours of replay value for unlocks. Big new dlc coming out on 03/31/21. Have played gungeon too and it's S tier, along with hades and Isaac
Dead Cells is great too. It can be very difficult. I'd put it in the A tier for rogue likes
The developers did a good job in early access with dead cells. It was my first EA experience. They continue to support the game with new content/dlc every few months. They just released a paid dlc

My main problem with roguelikes is that you aren't playing for anything and i can't find enjoyment in games if i don't have a goal. If i'm just playing because i enjoy the game, sure, but it will get old to me because i'm seeing the same game with nothing in between. Hades is a perfect entry to the roguelike genre and just in general a perfect game for me.

My ranking for top 3 rogues:
- Hades - best story. Typically non-existent in rogues. Best gameplay.
- Binding of Isaac - best replayability. Hundreds of hours for unlocks. Best mechanics. There's alot going on under the hood.
- Gungeon - Not best gameplay as that goes to Hades, but very good. Right under Hades. More of a "modern" rogue compared to Isaac. Not to say it doesn't, but if it had more unlocks/replayability, it would rate number 2.

@tame veldt I definitely see your point there and with rogues the initial point is to unlock everything. Once you have 💯 unlocked, that's where the game is tested. Do you still have fun playing it? Isaac and Gungeon still provide fun, at least to me, even after everything is unlocked. They have "random" modes where your starting items/stats are randomized to keep things interesting

For me i just hate them. Right now I just finished beating the king bodyguard in dead cells.
But from the look of it. The devs are just planning to Milk dead cells.
In the near future
And endless amount of dlc.
So I stop getting any more dlc in the near future. On dead cells

live service models are a bane to the industry, because every game wants to be a "live service" (because publishers are not stupid and know these models are very profitable) but not every game can. every live service game demands your time and commitment and idk, to me feeling like im supposed to be obligated to put time into a game because you've labeled it an ongoing product just feels nasty. some games can be really good regardless but then you have absolutely shameless attempts at it, like avengers lol
i have nothing to say about dead cells, i dropped the game a long time ago so i dont keep up with whats going on with it, but thats my feelings on "live service" in general

debate on the funny. But on game play, yeah it is alright in Borderlands 3. Otherwise other suffer greatly how it is handled with health and such, it just becomes a game of shooting down tanky enemies, unless you play with community patch. Like I feel genuinely only Borderlands redeeming quality as a series is co-op, but like every game is more fun with friends of course tbh.
