They've been Rpgs that mostly take place during a War. Main reason i loved them and 2 mostly, was that there were bunches of optional side characters you could go out into the world and try to recruit into your party (its themed around some 108 stars of destiny thing so your roster can usually get to around 108 characters.
It had you building up a castle over the game and the characters you would recruit would start showing up in the castle and sometimes setting up their own areas like cooking mini games or a blacksmith to level up everyone's weapons or a detective to go learn more about characters back stories.
Plus rpg combat was really nice, 6 person party and the characters could do special team attacks if you had people who had interactions and such. Just really well made 🙂

With spectacle fighters you don't even want to reposition your camera too much, keeping enemies offscreen in DMC makes them more passive

while in 2006 your starter rifle is a living... alien... cosmic abomination that shoots itself, regenerates ammo via mitosis or some sh- and for a scope it pops out this weird parasite... tentacle... thing that latches to your right eye and gives you variable zoom and xray
