they just pelt you with everything right off the bat from all sides so there isn't a single solid piece of cover - every place you hide at will leave you exposed to full auto fire from the back

it does a great job portraying the scale of the black mesa incident
from "oh crap this one part of the complex is kinda messed up", through "well it's spreading everywhere", "please evacuate everyone in 15 mile radius" to "f it pull out all troops and evacuate all of new mexico"
the original game hinted at that as well as it could, but that was about it
but now BM leans into it and shows every detail (with some grade A voiceacting too) to the point that...
at the end of Forget About Freeman i had to stop for a moment and take it all in - looking at all the destruction everywhere, the sky completely covered in smoke, listening to all the distress calls on the nearby radio

okay so - in original half life HECU were actually pretty smart, but - they couldn't run and gun
they could either chase you or stop and shoot you
Black Mesa works on source so the AI is based on the combine's AI from HL2 - who could run and gun
they were generally easier to kill, but could do two things at the same time
well - black mesa combines the hard damage output and high reflexes of the og game with run-and-gun tactics from hl2
which makes them super hard
and that on it's own wouldn't be bad, if it wasn't for the fact that damage values on hard are all sorts of effed up
it feels like...
fighting HECU feels like a bunch of glass cannons throwing dull razors at each other
just doing a whole bunch of random chip damage until someone lands a lucky crit

changed the FOV from 59 ||59 that's criminal - that's zoom FOV in other games|| using some janky .bat file because this early UE3 game is made in such a weird way changing the FOV in one of the many, MANY .ini files changes where bullets come from
so if you increase that FOV your bullets will start spawning to the left of your gun
i've heard multiple NPCs talking double
as in - dialogue lines trigger twice so not only there's echo, but the volume doubles for some reason
i've had my guys die to their own...

I'm in the middle of an Isaac run for the first time in I literally do not know how many years so I want you to imagine I'm spending the next 3 hours typing, deleting, and retyping a message.
Because FFX is one of my truly formative games.
It's one of my favorite works of art of all-time.
But there's a school of thought concerning one of E33's ending that I've got some Capital T Thoughts to express that I don't think are fully earned until I've played E33 myself.
