I'd say, put a podcast or a video on and play BL2 with dialogue volume turned down. I think the general looter shooter works well, at some point the enemy scaling gets really bad, like you have super powerful weapons that oneshot enemies but there are also enemies that can oneshot you which is not really fun

I have like 300h in BL2, got to level 50 on multiple characters, finally bought the DLC to get up to level 70 or sth and then never touched the game again lmao

Enemies and mechanics mostly. Like when I started and realized you could dodge through lasers and projectiles I was like "sweet", but then the game throws in projectiles and lasers that can't be dodged through, after that it added homing projectiles, enemy variants with different mechanics/behaviours and stuff like that

don't want to spoil stuff but now I reached a biome where even game physics behave a bit differently

it's definitely not a complaint from me though, so far I really like the game, but it can be very unforgiving

So I was replaying some earlier missions, right?

And in mission 4 you break into this office building, steal a mcguffin and have to - as always - run away from a whole police squadron

So I did that
I was having a lovely time
And took a different route this time

And few steps in the game flashed this battlefield-y message like “you’re leaving the mission area” and then… stopped the mission

Because I had the sheer audacity of taking a different route… in an open world

The game wanted me to escape the police and then punished me for… escaping the police using a more efficient route

you start in a zone that kinda-sorta tries to look like ME1 - only worse
it's all concrete, white paint and bright colors
it's nice

then the second zone is way fancier and more sci-fi - it's all plastic and holograms
and it's... ok - it's so shiny and reflective it all blends together to the point that it's hard to know where tf am i even going

and then the third zone is just...
a buncha rich a-holes decided to make everything out of glass

and it plays like ass

i've lost count how many times i faceplanted a perfectly clean window while running at full tilt

thinking about ME environment made me realize

the amount of sunlight in modern 3d games is unbearable

in every single game they have to put that spotlight in the sky and make it cast all the possible and impossible shadows

even with the clouds covering it all, it still makes shadows appear

and that thing in the beginning, "adjust the brightness so you can barely see shtuff at the far right, and everything else should be pitch black, or else your immersion will be ruined"

and then in the game all the shadows are black af so you can hide a bunch of assassins under each barrel, but all the sunlit areas look like discord's bright theme

and then they invent Raytracing to solve that at least somehow

why they can't just turn the brightness of the sun down for the love's sake?

make the light fall from all the sides above from a gray sky

Screw it - I genuinely recommend skipping all of the cutscenes - save yourself the cringe

There’s a city that sure looks great - from a distance
Don’t waste your time interacting with it or even taking a closer look because once you do - the illusion breaks completely and there’s nothing of substance underneath that pretty surface

Even the music breaks and cuts off completely, forcing me to restart a checkpoint cause there’s nothing covering up the god awful dialogue

I have never, in my entire life, seen a game so utterly scared of committing to anything besides the surface-level looks

went from being the jankiest three stooges simulator with bumbling guards fumbling with their guns

like - you have to learn to play it in a particular way to make it look good and smooth

kinda like you have to learn how to run well, i guess

but once you do
boi does it feel good

as long as you turn off all the UI crap on your hud

every hit is actually a separate attack in that chain
and they're all from a standing position

so just imagine how many different combos you can pull of once you start chaining them with your other moves

hell - i used to do it too - i only learned how to handle this system on like... mission 12 out of 15

Things I like about Dwarf Fortress: The sheer complexity of everything, the multi-z-height-constructions. War crimes are less baked in.
Things I like about Rimworld: enemies can destroy walls, making walling off infeasible. Better UI, more fun setting.
Things I hate about both of them: Enemies will seek entrance to your compound via ridiculous methods, even if breaking down one hastily constructed wood wall would prove faster and safer.
