All of the shields are very good in their own way to be fair, Chaos is quite underwhelming compared to others however, and also wants Titan Blood
As in, it's even weaker at lower levels

Here is my advice to git gud: play every weapon and find your favorite. Once you know your favorite, find some good builds or ask for build help. Then play over and over and when you die find out why and don't do that again. All enemies attack the same. Play them and pay attention to how they move, eventually you'll what to expect and can predict and dodge

Spears have some hammer reliance, Achilles’ strongest hammer is Flurry Jab by far because it’s a massive dps increase, for attack you can good damage with most of them but Artemis or Zeus are considered the best, if you happen to find Artemis try to force Ares in Asphodel and grab his Cast, that opens up Hunting Blades, Achilles’ buff applies to your Casts aswell so those will help you shred bosses
If you happen to go Zeus then force him in Asphodel and just try to get as much Zeus as possible, Static Discharge Zeus’ Aid Double strike etc, those are popular builds to go for but you can make a ton of things work
Like Ice Wine / Crystal Clarity etc
Starting keepsake is Poseidon for Tidal Dash or you can wing it with Coin Purse and build whatever the gods offer

You just hold Attack after a Dash on the bow. It'll charge faster than a normal Attack.
Twin Shot and Triple Shot are gonna be best for damage.
Your damage is also gonna be a lot better once you can do Power Shots consistently.
On sword, your best DPS rotation most of the time is gonna be Special > Dash-Strike x2 > repeat.

meanwhile bow has a lot more. hammers add a lot to dps

Best hammer will be Double Edge. Other good hammers are Piercing Wave and Breaching Slash. Double Nova and Super Nova are copium.
Shadow Slash, Cruel Thrust, and Cursed Slash all don't affect Dash-Strikes.
Flurry Slash will prevent you from doing an empty dash after any normal Attack (you'll get a Dash-Strike instead) and you can no longer do a Dash-Strike without getting a normal Attack right after the Dash.
That's why experienced players avoid it.

All the top Hera players remap their Cast button on controller to usually a shoulder button btw. Highly recommended.
