made it a third time with a pretty mediocre spear build, very unfocused

finally trying the gun again - I'm finding out that it normally doesn't auto-reload if you hold the attack, but if you dash without letting go of attack it will reload afterwards

if you dash once it'll then start the reload animation, if you then immediately dash a second time it'll be mostly reloaded by the end of the dash animation

to get more dmg

selling boons is honestly a thing you shouldnt do unless something ruins your build, youre doing boonless, or have ||UC||

or you just need quick cash

otherwise there isnt much reason to sell anything

I would say in general you are walking backwards in making you build if you sell a boon, especially early in the run.

But in the final biome there are a lot of purging wells and it can make sense to sell boons, for instance if you don't think you'll clear the run so you want to buy the reward in the final shop.

or if something you totally wont use comes up in the well and you can grab another boon that might be useful with the money

The other thing about wells is they pick three random boons, none of which may be the one you actually want to sell. There's no harm in checking though.

This game is really awesome! The features that unlock are pleasant surprises as I go; I've only just started and haven't gotten very far yet (got past the 2nd boss in lava land and then died in the next area before reaching the boss).

Is it weird that I feel a sort of performance anxiety when I play this game? I feel like I can't die before I reach the same depth I reached the previous time or else I'm regressing, and because I read about how people would beat certain bosses on their first try I feel like I have to do it too.

Well the may have but they're bragging about it because the game is designed to kill you. Losing to those bosses is how the developers meant for you to progress through the story.

But a lot of gamers specifically like to try to do things that were balanced to be generally unachievable, so I'm sure there are people who studied the game hard

And have done unusual routes and fancy tricks to clear things on their first try.
