Most roguelikes are about survival before they're about offense, that's where most of your Gitting Gud will come from

you can only ever mash the attack button so fast, but you sure as hell will learn to be a better dodger as you play this game

Back to the mirror, i would chase the upgrades that get you more Death Defying charges

those are the #2 essential thing behind dashes for players starting out

get at least 2, then you can bandaid the 3rd with the keepsake you can get from gifting skelly

after that, health. you want to start each run with 100 health as quickly as you can

After that, your first real offense boost with "boiling blood"

Very important this one^^^^^

sticking a single cast stone in an enemy makes you do a whopping 50% more attack and special damage to them

so very good for sticking in bosses and other big targets to get your damage skyrocketing

Honestly if you get that far in the mirror you're going to be in a different place than where you are now, so go work towards that and good luck.

I think it's possible to be completely invincible essentially with the right setup, which would be good for learning the game.
Damage reduction: Myrmidon bracers (30%), Different League (18+%), Bronze Skin (12.5+%), High Tolerance (upwards of 40%), ||Arthur|| (40%), Unshakable Mettle (10% against bosses)

Dodge: Greater Evasion (20-25%), Ruthless Reflex (50% for 2 seconds after near-misses)

Weakness: 30% + 17.5% (Broken Resolve)

Healing: Stubborn Roots (1HP per 0.8 seconds with no DD)

Invincibility: Athena call (or Poseidon call with Rip Current) + Smoldering Air
