So like there's a few things.

Dodge. This SEEMS obvious, but sometimes I get lazy. I think invincibility frames on dashes are pretty lax, but dashattacking might remove them. Not 100% sure.

Kill enemies first. This... seems obvious, again, but there are a LOT of enemies that are quite nasty but ridiculously easy to kill. The flying skulls in the first area, for example, come in massive numbers and have dangerous somewhat difficult to dodge attacks but are also VERY FRAGILE. Learn when enemies need to be focused first(gems are another high threat thing you have to kill first)

Attacks destroy (a lot) of projectiles. Most weaker projectiles in the game tend to get destroyed by attacks, even without Athena boons. There are some enemies that don't(anything that looks like a wave, if I remember correctly), but tiny little blob projectiles? Yeah, you need to time attacks to destroy them. This is almost essential in the second area.

Learn how to scale your damage. There are three damage upgrades in the mirror: Learn to apply them as much as possible, for this is Global Damage which is the best kind of damage increase. There are also two kinds of damage boons: Attack/Special percentage damage boons and flat damage boons. Percentage damage boosts benefit more from other boons and synergy, flat damage boons need poms for level ups instead(with some synergy boons).

PRIORITIZE HEALTH. Centaur hearts both heal you AND permanently increase your max health. Many things in the game give you percentage health healing, including certain things in the charon shop and fountains. Or death defiances. Once you feel comfortable with the health you have you can focus on other things, but really. Health. Try to keep enough gold for a centaur heart in a shop and consider skipping other things when you need health.

Usually when I have difficulty dodging something, it's because I'm attempting to plant my face into a bunch of projectiles instead of doing what it seems like you're supposed to do and clear a path for yourself with attacks/specials/casts.
Grinding your face up against elite witch attacks in second area, not quite recommended :p Much easier to just stand still and swipe through with an attack sequence.

i have yet to beat the game without god mode at all, although it's not for lack of trying. i almost had it the run before last...
if somebody so much as looked at god mode users badly, they can say hello to these talos fists and this 80% damage reduction
