The leading cause of dissatisfaction with bow is standing-striking-itus. It's the bane of new players picking up bow for the first time.

Symptoms of standing-striking-itus may include:

  • Feelings that bow isn't a fast enough weapon
  • Emotional (and physical damage) due to your attacks getting interrupted by enemies
  • Feelings that bow has "low damage output"

Is what's happening to me normal?

It's very common for first time bow users and even long term Hades fans to experience standing-striking-itus. Roughly 1 in 3 Hades players will experience it within their lifetimes. It can be a long-running, persistent illness if left untreated.

How do I treat standing-striking-itus?

Start dash-striking when you use bow. Dash striking on bow acts just like a regular strike, but it charges 50% faster, and deals 66% of the base damage.
This allows bow to play far more aggressively, thanks to increased mobility and decreased gaps in damage. Dash strikes also benefit from dash-strike damage boosts, sourced from Artemis's Hunter Dash, and Chaos's Lunge boons, allowing for even higher damage scaling. When you wrap everything up, you end up with a safer, faster, and higher damaging package than what you had before, and this is usually sufficient treatment for 95% of standing-striking-itus sufferers.

His boons generate seperately like hammers, and they max out at 2 per run (with a potential to buy a 3rd at the very end of your run). They have chaos rarity, and like chaos he doesn’t have duos plus he has the chaos rarity odds, and none of his boons are pommable or cores. Then lastly like regular gods you can sell his boons

Hello, avid ares user here!
Ares’ effect, doom, does the same damage no matter how many times you hit the enemy, and can only be upgraded with boons or poms of power.
The above statement is not true if you have the dire misfortune boon, which adds a small amount of damage to your next doom attack if you hit them multiple times with a doom afflicting attack.
For example, in your example, your bow special would merely proc ONE case of doom, even if you hit every arrow.

Because of this, Ares’ damage is usually somewhat lacking. To improve this, consider taking the dire misfortune or impending doom boons, which help improve your damage. The BEST way to optimise Ares’ damage, and my favoured build, is by utilising his duo boon with Athena (called Merciful End).

there are rules to boon generation

cores get priority if they’re open, then status curse boons (static discharge, razor shoals, hunter’s mark, etc), then duo/legendaries are rolled

and then after all that’s done

it can be 1/n

if you have no cores, the game will make roll 3 cores (like when you get your first boon). Otherwise if you have open cores the game will force the first option to either be a core 90% of the time or an exchange 10% of the time

after that, if the god has a status curse boon, then there’s a 50% chance it’ll be given priority

then remaining open options can roll duo/legendary odds and then they can roll regular boons

As u play ur mirror is gonna get a lot stronger, eventually their comes a point that if u know what ur doing with boons then ur mirror and boons are strong enough that its inevitable you’ll escape with a level 1 weapon. So u dont need to level ur weapon to escape

So you get lightning strike from zeus, then you look for athena in tartarus (and would likely force her in either way in asphodel)

the strike is your primary consistent damage source while the cast ends up being a big damage but limited option since you have to chase down your cast-stones after

or a crit build would often have artemis on something and aphrodite somewhere else to apply weak for the Heart Rend duo to let your crits do 450% damage instead of 300%

for a non-duo focused build, the rails do a lot of these between lightning strike, tidal dash and whichever +% special you can find (ideally artemis in most cases but anyone will do)
