With a ranged weapon

I can see 2nd last beeing easier as melee and last boss hardest as melee

I've found the solution to those is to stop treating the bow as a ranged weapon

it's plenty fast enough to be a mid-range to melee weapon and it's best hammers typically want you close up to get more damage

for shield builds the first one I’ll recommend is something along the lines of aphrodite strike and zeus’ call, looking for their duo smouldering air

Aphrodite by herself is a super strong boost to your attack damage, her weaken debuff is a pretty big bonus

Their duo allows you to charge your call at 5% of the bar a second while restricting it to a max of 25%, meaning you charge a minicall every 5 seconds

from there, tidal dash is a pretty strong damaging dash, divine dash is what you’ll want if you’re looking for a more defensive dash.

I’m kind of a bit busy to get into the nitty gritty of actual shield gameplay tips

Basic build advice is anything that hits slower with higher base damage will prefer boons with a +% boon to them, while the faster weaker hits (like fist strike) will prefer flat damage like zeus/ares/dionysus

you don’t need to use your special for priviledged status

you just need to inflict two status curses on a single enemy, and hitting an enemy with your raging rush counts as hitting them with your special (iirc) so should apply any status curses tied to your special boons

Is it better to turn on heat now or later, after I've beaten all of Heat 0 with every weapon? Are there any important changes I should get used to sooner than later if I want to move up in difficulty?

If I turn on like 2 heat, do I miss out on rewards for 1 heat? I'm assuming it wouldn't do that and I would be able to get those rewards twice or something like that

Well know that you only get iframes on dash if you dont attack during it, pressing attack in the middle of a dash immediately causes you to lose them. Other than that use double dashes and death defiances and use god keepsakes in the first two regions so you can get a good build

Builds are aspect/weapon dependent but the basics are pretty simple:
+% boons go on hard hitting “slower” attacks while flat damage (zeus, ares, dionysus) go on faster weaker hits

you need to acquire the rod of fishing from the house contractor (it will cost 1 diamond which can be aquired through beating the 2nd boss). Afterwhich you will see random spawns in water throughout the underworld called "fishing points", the mini game will have you keep an eye on the indicator in the water which will occasionally dip underwater and come back up, when a loud splash is heard and the indicator stays underwater you need to press the interact button to catch the fish (the sooner you catch the fish after the indicator the better the result will be, also if you wait too long after the splash or press before the fish "bites" you will lose).
At most you will get 3 "false" dips so if you observe your indicator go up and down 3 times the next dip will be guarenteed to be a bite.

There can only be three fake bobs, so the fourth bob is always real if the first three were fake. Fake bobs have an interval of 2-5 seconds while the real bob has an interval of 1-2 seconds. So if it takes more than 2 seconds, it should be a fake bob. Meaning you should look for the real bob within a short time after you start fishing or within a short time after a previous bob.

Personally, I just look for the white flash above the bobber and ignore the bobber itself. Some players have said they have better success when putting their thumb on the bobber to not get distracted by that, so maybe you could give that a try.

A Perfect Catch means catching a fish within 340ms. Perfect Catches are 50/50 on being a legendary or rare fish. Any other catch is 50/50 on being a rare or common fish.

if you change it for ares you need to go for Merciful End (duo boon of ares and athena) by getting athena special and athena dash

it's a lot more effort and takes more time for a reward that's not much different, just easier to use

so generally speaking, heroic zeus attack is arguably the best thing you could've gotten

I’d recommend a control swap now rather than later for a few things but I genuinely can’t remember what cast and reload commonly get swapped to

This one’s a little common sense but the heavier hitting weapons will enjoy the additive +% boosts from god(esses) more than flat damage(lightning, hangover, doom), and vice versa for the lighter quicker hitters

Try to make sure you’ve gifted each Olympian god at least once, since their keepsakes are insanely valuable if you want to get a handle on your build early

The game never explicitly tells you this, but for every run, you have a “god pool”. Every time you take a boon from a unique Olympian god or goddess (note that Hermes and Chaos both do not count for this) they’re added to your pool, up to a soft cap of 4. Once you hit 4 (or higher), that game will stop showing you new gods and godesses in that run*, and only the gods who are in your “pool”.

Once they are in your pool, you cannot get them out of your pool for that run. Selling their boons will not change that.

*note that you can force new gods in via keepsakes, and you can end up with a pool larger than 4 through keepsakes, or shop shenanigans

The latter of the former: Chiron and Chaos are widely considered very meh even at max. Chaos especially so, such that a lot of the better players completely disregard its upgraded Special.
Also, if the Hades subreddit disagrees, take their opinions with a grain of salt. Not to malign them or anything, but their opinions about a lot of mechanics can be questionable

That said, Chaos and Chiron are intuitive, so they can be newbie-friendly. They're just not particularly strong

Generally, quick hitters take Zeus and more Zeus while slower, heavier hitters tend toward Aphrodite as their first boon. Tidal Dash from Poseidon is great on a huge variety of weapons, especially ranged weapons. You'll generally want to use Olympians' keepsakes in the first two zones to ensure you can lock in the Olympians you really want

i just tried out em4 for the first time and wow hades becomes significantly harder than normal

I hadn't gotten to less than 50% health the whole run much less lose a death defiance and I ended up using all of them in the final fight

got a level 13 drunken flourish on chiron as well as the 2 special hammers and low tolerance so the dps was more than good enough to shred through him, just his attack pattern is way different than usual

Builds are always going to vary by weapon and aspect but typically

Fast hitting attacks and specials take zeus, dionysus and ares as flat damage since they don’t benefit much from +%

Slower heavier hitting attacks and specials enjoy +% goddesses boons a whole ton more due to getting a ton more value from them, and not having the speed to make use of the flat damage gods

If you’re trying to have consistent builds, you’ll want to always start with the main god of your build’s keepsake, and take the second god of your builds keepsake into asphodel.

Then just defensive keepsakes like acorn for elysium and styx

Whenever you pick up a boon from a god you don’t have(that isn’t hermes or chaos), they’re added to your god pool, with a max of 4 gods (through tradional means). Once you hit 4 gods in your pool, the game will stop showing you other gods naturally

So before then, whenever the game decides to show you a boon, it rolls a 1/8 die to check which god that boon will be from. Once you have 4 gods in your pool, it only rolls a 1/4 die for all the gods you have

Which really helps with consistency for your main gods

No, purging a god’s boons will not remove them from your god pool.
Yes, using a new god’s keepsake will let you take one of their boons and add them to your pool, bringing your god pool to 5 gods.
Yes, there are other less consistent and less effective ways of getting a god pool higher than 4, but they’re not really worth thinking about at this point. (Or really at all)

K so I’m back.

Core boons refers to the 4 action boons (strike, flourish, dash, and cast). Notably not your call. Each regular Olympian God has a core boon for each of those.
Whenever you get a core boon, it’ll show up on the left in it’s respective place.
The game favours giving you these boons.
When you have 0 core boons, the first roll of a boon will always contain 3 core boons. This is why your first boon of the run will start with a choice between them. If you use a fated persuasion to roll, it can show you secondary boons, but that’s not a great idea in most cases.

Once you have at least 1 core boon, the game will start favouring them a little differently. It’ll always make the first option available a core you don’t have (or an exchange 10% of the time), and then roll regularly for the rest of the boons.
So as long as you don’t have your core boons filled (a boon for attack, special, cast and dash), the game will take one of your boon options and make it a core boon, essentially limiting what you can see. So if you want to hunt duos and secondary boons more effectively, you’ll want to fill up your core boons to let the game roll 3 options instead of 2.

Core boons (+calls) are typically also your main prerequisites for duo boons. Occasionally duo boons will only have prerequisites as one or two of a god’s cores (Lightning Phalanx only works with Phalanx shot from Athena), and occasionally a god’s secondary can be a prerequisite(curse of vengeance for curse of Nausea), but that’s outside of the scope of this message.

Taking free rooms is usually the play regardless

Because free rooms are
Chaos (value in 99% of cases)
Shops (value most of the time)
Story rooms (pretty much always worth, at least eurydice and patroclus)

Taking shops early allows you to get your build together faster, since you’ll often find a boon or 2 in them to add to your god pool.

The real cases where you don’t take free rooms are when the other option is like… guaranteeing an important god you don’t have yet, or up to your disgression.

Like not every boon cares the same amount about poms, so you have to look and be like “yeah my artemis strike ain’t doing anything with an extra pom, I’ll take shop and see what’s available”
