I think the thing we're overlooking with Demeter isn't her potential gameplay ramifications, but rather the fact she is Persephone's mother, making her Zag's grandma and Hade's Mother-in-law(and sister (and sister-in-law (jeez Greeks get it together))).
I just hope that Demeter's dash-attack creates a particle effect of plants growing.

My headcanon is that this Zag was "born in the underworld" when he died to the titans. The game takes place many ages afterward, as humanity is born from Zag's ashes and starts to populate the underworld. We are playing Zag as he "redeems" himself and proves himself worthy to be reborn as a god once more (as he is reborn in greek myth via the human mother Semele), even though in the traditional myth this "reborn Zag" is Dionysus, so I'll just assume the game's Dio was born in a different manner (as he has many origin myths himself).

So, there's clearly more to Hades wanting to keep Zagreus from leaving than Hades just being a jerk. As I've been progressing further, Hades has seemed to be more supportive, even if he's still being insulting while doing so. Plus, there's a line in particular where Hades suggests that Zagreus is basically trying to acquire a mortal's life. So, does Hades think Zagreus will become mortal if he escapes? What do we know so far about -why- Hades wants Zagreus to stay away from the birth mother that only remembers her dog?
