Just beat 32 heat boonless (true boonless, if I got a cast boon I would unbind my cast until I was able to sell it). Recorded the entire thing including a death before to prove its unseeded. It's bothering me how much "why are you not doing this optimal thing?" and "this thing that most players can't do is actually really easy to do" there is recently. It comes off as very elitist or devolves into arguments. People share their first 32 Heat or whatever in #h1-victory-boasting and get comments like "you did it wrong, you should have picked this other pact/build/whatever" instead of just cherishing each other's accomplishments like what the channel is for. Or I see people just bouncing out for awhile or switching channels because something has devolved into an argument about the "right" way to play or whatever again.

The Hades community here has never been like that. We've always cherished other people's accomplishments no matter if it was their first win or their first 32 Heat or whatever. We've always encouraged experimentation. We've also always had players who try to be the fastest or the most optimal or whatever, but there's always been a mutual respect no matter somebody's preferred playstyle or skill level or whatever. I would really be happy if some of the more recent members in the community would embrace that spirit and put kindness and open-mindedness first when interacting with others in the community.

Understood, those are great points and I'll do my best to not come off that way. I've been annoyed at elitists and the like myself in the past, and when giving suggestions I've tried not to come off as telling someone what they're doing is wrong, because I really don't want to be the guy in such a creative videogame like this one telling people their fun is wrong. I can recognize that I was ranting too intensely and I'll try not to say things like "why are you not doing x" it's optimal" or "x is easy why are you having a hard time" because that really is a jerk move. The message you sent was really good quality, thank you for taking the time to write that out.

I totally hear you and I recognize that I definitely do those things. I’m working on the ways that I phrase things, and being more clear that I’m not trying to tell people how to play, only say what I believe is optimal, and I totally understand how that can be interpreted by some people. Also, I definitely try not to call things easy unless I’m comparing to something else, and to never do so in a way that belittles anyone’s accomplishments, but I recognize that I often don’t do a great job of wording what I’m saying, and end up saying things that can easily and reasonably be interpreted in a way that I don’t intend. I don’t mind if you call me out when I do these things as long as you do so in a respectful way. I will make a more conscious effort to think about the ways that people will interpret what I’m saying

I think one of the things to realize about this (and it took me a while to do so) is that when people talk about their build and play style you shouldn't assume they're implicitly asking for advice on how to optimise it. People play games for different reasons and get different things from them (see Bartle's Taxonomy for a high level breakdown). Min-maxing builds for optimal dps is a fun exercise, but it's not "the game", it's just one aspect of the game and one which not everyone cares about. Unsolicited advice can be unhelpful and even come across as an overt "display of cleverness" which makes less experienced players feel excluded. My advice is that unless someone says "can someone help me improve my build?" you simply assume that they're happy with whatever choices they've made and are learning at their own pace.

So... funny story. I was running Aspect of Chaos and facing Super Dad and feeling very overconfident (I was on a 4 or 5 streak against EM4). Dad starts winding up super lasers and I have a million years on the clock so I calmly block. Only I'm within the repulse radius. I'm catapulted backwards - still blocking - into a pot, which promptly stuns me and I stand there like a lump with stars round my head while Dad pumps an entire laser cycle into me.

I... lost that run. Dad said the "Do not get overconfident..." line and I put down the controller and said, "Yep.".

I think early on, bow players tend to only like one of them and not get too much out of the other. It takes time to learn to use both effectively, so it makes sense to stick to the one that's working better for you.

If you want Merciful End, just reset early in Tartarus if you don't see him. That should speed things up.

Elysium prolly is rough to beat with high hp

but then, u still gotta deal with styx and hades, so yeah...

I think just any aspect that lets you double down on an existing strategy is really good

For example the aspect of Chiron for the bow

Gods such as Dionysus or Zeus are very good to have on fast attacks

Exagryph is up there for high heat, too, but can't quite keep up with Beowulf in speedruns.
