My reason was that I turned on god mode when I was still struggling to get through Elysium on my first playthrough, which really helped me and gave me more wiggle room to learn mechanics - but I wanted to prove to myself once I was better that I could get through the whole game and beat the final boss with god mode off, so that was my main reason
