I think the hammer has an equal chance to spawn at the start as much as any other god- at least I've gotten it several times, but maybe I'm lucky. But, I think you're talking about getting a specific upgrade right? A restart could technically help but I think it's best to have like 3 or 4 builds in mind since there's only so many upgrades you're bound to get at least one okay one

how does one make the stygian blade work
i can clear the first floor easily but as soon as i get to the first boss it falls apart because it lacks the range of the spear and bow and i get shredded after i try to get up close

It definitely gives you crits more frequently, which was the goal.
However, I also found it was just...more effective to use my special, attack, or call instead.
Not surprising, but made it taxing to try it out. But criting all of my specials (demeter aspect) was pretty fun

@quaint hatch I did the splitting headache version of crit demeter cast! It was far more consistent, but still worse than just going for mega lasers or using your splitting headache affect elsewhere. Perhaps if I got extra casts from chaos or artemis' legendary it would have been better, but just a lot of set up for something that's just worse than pursuing aphro/dio/artemis with duos
