I am not sure tbh. Some achievements are done retroactively, some are not. Not sure which is which though.

Chaos curses that damage you for using attack/special/cast can't bring you below 1 hp. So you can't directly die to them.

Never played with God mode but I've heard some good things from people. That said the game is perfectly doable without godmode aswell ofc. In the beginning you will die a lot either way. The idea is to get gems/darkness/etc and get stronger each run.
There is no need to finish the game within the first 20 or 50 runs.
And you can always turn it on after your 50th death if you so choose.

Godmode is a great option for anyone - on my first game I turned it on around escape attempt 27 because I was really struggling and it didn’t make me over powered but it gave me more room to breathe while learning the mechanics much better. Later I started a second file because I wanted to see how much better I could do without it again, and I kept it off until my first successful escape - then I turned it on again because I just find the game more enjoyable with it.

Oh my gosh I just had the craziest streak of luck - started with fists and Athena keepsake to go for a Merciful End run - the second room was Ares, the third room was Merciful End and then I went into a chaos gate where there was a gold urn and ||I caught a rare fish||

Certain heat options help you go faster. Also in game timer is paused for some special rooms. There is a build that's quite powerful involving Eris Rail that lets you clear rooms very quickly. No bugs, exploits needs to be used.

I've seen some speedruns, 14-18 min each pretty much depending on weapons and a bit of rng.
Just not standing still and thinking alone will prob shave 15-20 min of a run.
