In my experience poseidon start is more reliable for hera heat because you get crowd control for free if you get cast (and make kbm wallbugging even easier), and if you don't get cast you can hope to get dash to sell at the end of tartarus.
Its real issue is damage after tartarus ends 😔

Question about god boon "pool", from what I understand the game tries to limit you to 4 gods unless you force more gods via keepsake after getting your first four. When is a god added to your pool exactly? When you get their boon, or when you visit their room at all (thinking of a case like an Infernal Gate where you end up getting an onion instead), or just when you see a room or shop with their boon at all?

If you are under 30% hp you can proc it on purpose for a heal
Check Charon wells often for touch of styx (+10% stubborn heal for 14 chambers)
Pray for patroclus, a 2 sack can take his item to dad
And the big trick with athena's DD boons
If you take either last stand or uh, whatever the other is called while you already used stubborn in that room will give you a death defiance
Then next room you'll gain back your stubborn
So you can have 2 death defiances + your stubborn
Other than that you really need a good understanding for enemies patterns
